Welcome to my progress website. I hope you enjoy it. I've been on my weight loss journey for about 6 years now. I have had great success the past 21 months on Weight Watchers! The program does work! Please see my photo album for some pics and feel free to sign my guest book!
Have a great day!
Ok.. Here's where my story begins...
I was a slim kid until I hit 5th grade. You can actually see a massive difference between my school photos in 4th and 5th grades. I have racked my brain trying to figure out what happened in that year that caused this, and I can't come up with anything. Could be hormones, could be who knows... But I started gaining weight. I continued to gain weight all throughout middle school and high school. In middle school I was called all kinds of names; pig, cow, oinker, chunk, but my two favorites are SUPERCHUNK and CHUNK NORRIS. Gotta give credit to the guy in 7th grade for those two.. and YOU know who YOU are!
In 9th grade my mom was diagnosed with lung cancer. I did my best to cope with it, but I ate to soothe the pain I was going through watching her battle cancer. Luckily she won that battle! Whew! All though high school I stayed the same weight. I was a size 18 and hovered around that until 1998 when my mom did pass away. Again, I ate to soothe the pain I was going through. She was my best friend and the best mom anyone could ask for. You know people say you can't choose your parents or your kids, but in my case, my parents chose me. I was adpoted at 10 days old, so I always felt a special bond with my parents.
So.. I packed on 50 pounds which got me up to 230. In 2003 I moved my dad to Albuquerque so I could help take care of him since his health was failing due to COPD. How did I deal with that??? You guessed it.. I ate my way up to 245. I did the Atkins diet for a month and got down to 224. A month after I moved my dad over here, I found out I was pregnant. This was not planned... at all. I was single (still am), had no idea what I was going to do. But all in all, it was a blessing. I continued to take care of my dad and grow larger everyday.. this time due to the little boy inside me. In June of 2004, a week after father's day, my dad passed away. I was pretty much alone, with the exception of the family I did have left (my grandfather, aunt and uncle), my friends and my little guy. On August 10, 2004, the light of my life was born into this world. His name is Ethan.
I was still grieving over the loss of my father while having the stress of a new born on my own. My friends and family helped when they could, but essentially, I was on my own. Again, I ate.. I got back up to 231... so where did my weight watchers journey begin?? Back in 2001 was my first attempt. I lost 3 pounds and quit. I just couldn't handle the plan and I felt like I was being deprived of the things I loved.. fast food, pizza... Fast Forward to 2004 after my son was born. I started back and went consistently for a while, lost 10 pounds and quit again. Life got in the way, or that's what I told myself. So I started back in March of 2005 and have been on the program consistenly since then. It took me a year and a half to really get serious and get on the program and stick to it. I am now down 34 pounds and I have not been this "light" since 1998. It's a huge accomplishment for me. It has not been easy. It's hard and will continue to be hard. But this time I'm not only doing it for me, I'm doing it for my son. I deserve it and so does he!
Throughout my life there has been a lot of reasons why I gained weight. And I have tried just about every diet out there. There's always that one person either a family member or friend who tells you that you shouldn't have a second serving, or you really don't need to eat that. Well.... to them I say.. BITE ME!
