Introduction
The current Junior Section of Rotherfield Football Club was established in 1997 and we’ve come a long way in 10 years. From the humble beginnings of two keen but unqualified coaches with a few cones, half a dozen footballs and 8 or 9 very enthusiastic youngsters we now have:-
Ø Around 150 children registered between the ages of 4 and 16.
Ø The prestigious FA Charter Standard Club award, which recognises that the Club aims to operate within the best practice guidelines established by the Football Association. This took a lot of hard work to obtain and has to be reviewed regularly to ensure that we maintain our standards. Our Charter Standard is due for renewal in November 2007.
Ø Thirteen coaches who have completed the “Level 1 Certificate in Coaching Football” qualification.
Ø Excellent support from the senior section of the Football Club, who are now reaping the benefits of the youth policy. Teenagers who have been developed through the Junior section are now appearing regularly in the adult teams.
Ø Fantastic support from parents and other volunteers. Without this support the Club could not have developed as it has. If anyone wants to get involved in any way, shape or form please speak to any of the coaches.
Given the extent to which the Club has grown it is important that we let everyone know how we try to operate so that you can decide whether this is right for your child. The intention of this information is to help you make that decision.
From the outset, our aim has been to provide an opportunity for any child to come and play football with the emphasis on having fun and learning how to play the game. Although the section has now grown significantly, our objectives remain the same:-
Ø To provide enjoyment above all.
Ø To develop every child’s knowledge of the game and their skills.
Ø To be inclusive by providing opportunities, regardless of ability – but appropriate to the capability of each child.
Ø To encourage competitiveness but not a “win at all cost” mentality.
As far as possible, our aim will be to involve every child in those matches which are appropriate to their age group – this will be more important to us than choosing the team on ability (although that’s not to say we don’t want to win!!)
The annual subscription to the junior section of the football club is payable on registration at the start of each new season. For previous members we have sent these out in advance this year as we have to operate on a first come first served basis. League rules stipulate a coach/child ratio that we must adhere to.
In common with the objectives we do keep this subscription as low as possible, but kit does cost money, as does our annual affiliation to the Sussex FA and public liability insurance. We are pleased to report that , for the second year running, there has been no increase in subscriptions.
The subscriptions for the 2007/08 season are:-
Ø 1 child under 6 years (Reception and year 1 at school) = £25-00
Ø for each additional child under 6 years = £10-00
Ø 1 child over 6 years (years 2+ at school) = £30-00
Ø for each additional child over 6 years = £15-00
For example, two children under 6 will cost £35; one child over 6 & one child under 6 will cost £40; two children over 6 will cost £45 & so on.
Coaching Sessions
Junior coaching takes place on Saturday mornings from September (the first Saturday after the children return to school) to early May (usually the week-end after the FA Cup Final). The only Saturdays when coaching will not occur is over the Christmas Period. Dates will be confirmed in due course.

Wet Weather
We are hopeful that the drainage work will mean that we can still use the Recreation Ground more often than not during the winter months. However, the British weather being what it is, it may be necessary to cancel Saturday morning sessions due to the ground being unplayable. In this event it is your responsibility to make one phone call to establish if the scheduled session is taking place, to either:-
Roddy Harman - Tel: 01892 853080 (answer machine with message)
Peter Ford - Tel: 01892 668161 or Mobile 07714 837 297.
The decision is usually made around 08.15 hrs so please delay your call until after 08.30 hrs as the answer phone message will not be available until then!
