Metal Rose Games Presents . . . ROT

A Realm of Terror

Phenomena: The Unseen

In the Realm of Terror, our world is overrun and controlled by forces beyond the mere natural physics that we see all around us on a day to day bases. In Phenomena: The Unseen, you play a character that has become witness to these hidden, supernatural existances. Whether your a person who stumbled upon it by accident, or were chosen to use special talents against humanty's darkest foes, your character has become the conduit between the natural world and the Unseen.

On Horror

The Introduction will help start the players on their way toward "feeling" the game.  It also talkes about what elements horror writers use to get us scared and how roleplaying games are played (if players are new to RPGs).

The Unseen covers several strange events that Phenomena characters might find along the way as well as a section describing secret organizations that can be just as dark and as aweful as the monsters.  It also has a section explain mortal monsters, like serial killers and psychopaths.

EDS & ROT

In order to play P:tU, you must first know how to use the Epic Dice SystemTM (EDS).  You can download a copy of the system and read through the system rules.  You will need to download this for all of the ROT games, but B:NT and N:GoN have addendums you need to include with it.  Once you are sure how the system works, you can begin putting your games together.

Character Sheet & Creating a Character

The Character Sheet allows you to keep track of your character's scores and other various information.  Click on this link to download a PDF file of it and print it off for your use.

Once this is done all you have to do is Create your Phenomena Character.  Click on this link to get the specific steps on how to do so.  Below, however, is a short step by step guide that you can follow.

Step 1: Character Portrait
Fill out name, gender, occupation, Evidence and Aspect.

Step 2: Essences
Essences are based on your Aspect.  You also have 8 points to spend on increasing your Essence levels (on a one for one bases).
Accidental:  Your choice.  5 for one, 3 for one and 1 for one.
Divine: Charisma 5, Psyche 3, Vitality 1
Hunter: Charisma 1, Psyche 3, Vitality 5
Investigator: Charisma 3, Psyche 5, Vitality 1
Psychic: Charisma 1, Psyche 5, Vitality 3

Courage is equal to Psyche +3.

Step 3: Edges
You have 10 points to spend on Edges.

Step 4: Attributes
Attributes start at level 1, but you also have 25 points to spend on increasing them (again, on a one for one bases).

Step 5: Skills & Knowledges
You have 45 points to spend on Skills and Knowledges.

Step 5: Phenomena
Characters begin with two Phenomena powers, except Accidentals (they don't start with any powers at all).  Divine characters get at least one Miraculous power and Psychics get at least one Psychic power.  Hunters and Investigators may not have either of these, only taking Special Aptitudes.  Everybody except Accidentals may have Special Aptitudes.

Step 6: Last Manipulations
Total Courage trait (Psyche +3).
Spend extra bonus points (you get 10).
Total Initiative (Agility x 2).
Get BaseLV from Strength attribute table.
BaseAR is equal to half your Endurance, rounded down.
Physcial Integrity is equal to: (half your Vitality Essence, rounded down) + Endurance level + 5.

Step 7: Paper Made Flesh
Give your character life by brainstorming through your character's history and currant life.  Think about behavioralisms, pet peeves, motivations, etc.

Weapons & Armor
This file has weapons and armor for the characters.

What the Director Needs to Know

The EDS titles the gamemaster the Director.  The Director must design the stories and run the NPC's that come up during the games.  He or she must also be a person that can make quick decisions and referee the other players.  Running P:tU can be a chore, but we have a few suggestions as well as some information about the Realm of Terror (through Phenomena's pov) that will make his or her job easier.

With Master of Horror, the Director is shown ways to create stories and brainstorm ideas for Phenomena games.

The Untold Secrets gives the Director the information on the special meta-systems involved in the ROT.

Dark Dwellers shows how to create monsters and has plenty of stats for monsters the characters might encounter during the games.

Ready-Made Stories for Phenomena: The Unseen

Below is a list of downloads that contain stories that are ready to be played.  For those who need a rating system, we use a "S" for sexual themes, "V" for lots of voilance and "O" for stuff that contains a lot about the occult.  A rating between 1 and 5 is used to give an abstract level of how much is found in the game.

For an example: "S1/V4/O3" would mean that it has little if any sexual tones, lots of violance and has a number of occult situations.  You can base your decisions off these if you need to.

The Blood Crusade
In A.D. 1212 a sinister plot was developed in Marseille, France... One that would plunge the city into an escapable corruption.   Even today, the city is haunted by it's darkest time.  The characters travel to France in order to solve the mystery of Castle de la Muret.  Will they survive it's evil?  Rating S1/V1/O1.

MORE TO COME...
