Metal Rose Games Presents . . . ROT

A Realm of Terror

What are the Brood?

The Brood, known as the Krypathi, are nightmare creatures who walk the Dream Chain, known in the ancient tongue as the quies catena.  The Krypathi use the Dream Chain to enter into the minds of the sleepers, their souls residing in a "realm" of their own making called an insulamens.  By manipulating the sleeper while his or her souls resides here, the Krypathi may manipulate the realm as if it were their own.

Players will take the role of a Krypathi who has found it's way out of the Eternal Void, who has formed a humaniod manifestation, and works toward their own goals, often a covet of the Dark Gods.  What the Krypathi didn't expect, however, is that the human mind is more powerful than they realized.  Their psychic energy is scarred with "humanity", emotions, etc.  The Krypathi have found that while trying to manipulate mortals, the Krypathi obtain these Echoes, which slowly forms their psychology, making them more human.

There is also the war of the Triads: the God of Light, Lucifer and the Dark Gods fight to overcome each other.  What's worse is that these Echoes change the Krypathi enough to choose humanity as a fourth side to the battle.  But it will all be up to the player characters...

You will need the basic EDSTM File for the basic dice rules and system.  For the background lore to the game (a minimal version), download the Genesis of Fear.

Then download the PDF Character Sheets (Page One and Page Two) and the Character Creation File to begin creating a character.  You will also need to learn more about the ROT of the Brood.  Get the Special Systems here.  Learn about Stains, Echoes and Veins.   This file has more about Crains, Lineages and how to create a name for your Krypathi.  For more on Scions, Tremens and thier associated Mordiv, download this file.

Beta Version

Okay, when you download these RTF files, you'll notice pieces missing, gamemaster stuff is lacking and the Brood perception of the ROT is greatly lacking.  Most of the reason is that they're being redrafted at this time, some of them even being reworked), so all these faults will be fixed in the PDF rulebook version of the game.  There's enough material here to run a game, do some test playing, etc.  If you have any comments, questions or critiques you'd like to make (in order to make Brood a smooth running killer of a game) then please contact me at eyeoftheraven@hotmail.com.  Thanks for helping us out and your patience is appreciated.

What the Krypathi Are & Aren't

Through many questions about the Krypathi I noticed that a more detailed explanation as to what the Krypathi are and aren't, as well as what they can do and can't do needs to be explained in further detail.  (This information WILL BE added to the PDF version of this game.)

So here goes...

When a Krypathi manifests on Terranth (our world) from the Suspirium (the underworld) most of them come through some sort of gateway (either seen or unseen).  The gateway translates the character from spirit to matter.  As with the Phantasmagoric power "Manifest", the Krypathi's Being (the spirit's incorporeal body and sentience) attracts to itself organic matter, creating the Orphic Pleroma, or the "organic body" that the Krypathi resides within during it's time on Earth.  However, unlike ghosts, demons, etc., the Orphic Pleroma likens itself to the material matter of humans so closely that it follows many of the same natural rules as if they were actually alive.

For example, a Krypathi must breathe air, eat (sometimes cursed to actually eat human or animal flesh) and go to the bathroom just like the rest of us do.  On the other hand, being Orphic Pleroma saves you from diseases such as cancer, AIDS, etc.  The reason for this is because while the material Krypathi might have to feed the organics it's nutrition, air and water to keep the organics that make it up strong and able to replenish, they're still not as complicated enough to have a heart beat or worry about cell growth.

Once the Krypathi re-enters the Suspirium, they re-enter without their Orphic bodies, once again becoming incorporeal.  In this state, they're just like other spiritual entities.

Krypathi are not gods or demons.  While sometimes worshipped as such (because of confusion or manipulation) they are the spawns of Other Things, maybe once worshipped as gods.  For this reason, Krypathi do not worship their fathers and mothers.  They are more of a slave to them (though many don't mind being slaves to these masters).  As Krypathi gather Echoes and become more human in personality, they realize their "parental dominators" and tend to fight for their freedom or destroy themselves in despair (which is a more common).

Finally, I'd like to mention that Mortlych's (described in Necromancers) are not Krypathi, but they are akin to them.

Anymore questions?  Just let me know.
