Metal Rose Games Presents . . . ROT

A Realm of Terror

Metal Rose Games Presents the Epic Dice System

Photobucket

It has been many years since I began working on the Epic Dice SystemTM (EDS) with Michael E. Wever, a good friend and editor of mine.  We're both proud to present this site for other roleplayers who wish to have an open system for their gaming entertainment.

Provided in this site is the popular Realm of Terror, or ROT as we like to call it, but there's going to be more.  While ROT is based on contemporary times, we decided that it'd be fun to also delve into fantasy and sci-fi.  Soon, therefore, we plan on developing "Timebound", a game that will transport characters through many times and dimensions, and "Blackmyr", a high-fantasy game that explores a medieval landscape beyond elves, dragons, etc..  It will be a game with unique creatures and of unique design while still maintaining the feel of that sort of fantastic genre.

All these games will use the EDS at it's most basic level.

Meanwhile, enjoy the Realm of Terror.  ROT consists of three books: "Phenomena: The Unseen" (P:tU), where you play regular people in a world of horror.  Some have certain abilities, but it's about playing the mortal side of the supernatural.  "Necromancer: The Ivory Gates" (N:IG) allows you to play a dark sorceror, those who dwell in the Underground Stream and meddle with the powers of the dark gods.  "Brood: Night Terrors" (B:NT) allows you to play a race of Voidal monsters that play in the realms of the mortal mind, warring against one another on the Dream Chain to harvest glory.

Best wishes,

About This Site

You may notice that not everything is complete yet as we set this site up.  Never fear.  We're working as fast as possible to get everything done.  Because this site is still being created, please come back soon to check on our progress.  I'll let you know under this title heading what's done and what to expect.

Phenomena: The Unseen and Brood: Night terrors have been completed (or nearily completed).  In the near future we will have a PDF version of these games done, which I'm sure most people would prefer.  If you need a starter game for P:tU The Blood Crusade has been uploaded for your use.  A starter game for B:NT has been assigned to be written and will be up as soon as it has been completed and test-played.

The full EDS rules are uploaded and ready to go.  Some things may change in the future, but the EDS can be used in it's current state.  While it's easier on players to use "ready made" games, feel free to design your own worlds using this system.

Also note that everything in this site is in RTF manuscript form.  This won't always be the case, but we wanted to get this out to people as soon as possible.  PDF file rulebooks are being designed as I write this and will replace the RTF manuscripts.  While the books are being designed manuscript flaws are being weeded out and more art designed.  Stay tuned.

New!  Check out the new Brood: Night Terrors  and Phenomena: The Unseen covers on their respectable pages.  These covers will be found on the first edition PDFs and print versions.

Necromancer: The Ivory Gates will have it's cover uploaded soon.  Stay tuned!

Coming Soon!

The dates of release are hopeful, since I've become very busy lately.  Writing an adaption of Phil Rickman's novel and working on an anthology of my own stories for publication has taken up most of my time right now.  However, I do still work on the games, but not as much as I'd like to.  The dates may change periodically, especially the PDFs -- they take more time and energy to put together.

Thanks for your patience.  It really means a lot.

Brood: Night Terrors (PDF version; should be uploaded by October)

Necromancer: The Ivory Gates (due to a busy schedule this has been pushed back to October)

Phenomena: The Unseen (due to a busy schedule, the PDF has been pushed back to October)

Sorry that everything has moved back to October, but I can say that it MOST LIKELY won't move back any further.  I got a few guys to help me with the PDFs and Necromancer is really close to being done.  The time-killer on The Ivory Gates comes down to finishing the spells (or Sortilege, as we call them).

However, for your patience, I have added more information to The Ivory Gates page, so check that page out for added info about the game!

My brother is creating character generator software, which will allow you to make a character and print it on a character sheet.  I'll have more for you when things develope.

The Reckoning

The non-EDS roleplaying game about the End of the World by me and Mike Wever (back in 1995) has now been uploaded to the Non-EDS bar tab to the left.  Hope some of you enjoy it.

EDS Download

Here is the base rules of the system.  You can use this file to create your own game world.  You will also need it to play any of the EDS games such as P:tU or N:GoN.

Free Games?

A lot of work is put into the EDS games, so we've been getting a lot of questions about why we decided to create "free" games.  The short answer is, why not?  I do this mostly as a hobby when I'm not working on a screenplay or a short story for the ol' mags, so it's something I enjoy a lot.  If I wasn't "creating" something I'd go insane.  But the good answer is, the EDS games on this site are sure to have bugs that needed to be weeded out.  I need help from gamers to test the stuff before I consider these, at least, as in "fair condition" enough for a real run at publication.

If the bugs are worked out and it's well received, I may actually self publish books that can be bought.  Until then, everything here is free to use.  I only ask that you remember that all these games and all of the artworkd displayed here is © by Metal Rose Games, so please don't try to publish your own material elsewhere or anything herein.  If your interested in making your own game world with the EDS and you're doing it for personal use... Great!  That's what I designed the system for originally.  If you'd like to publish it here, query me (see section below) and I'll see if it's something that I'm interested in developing for this site or future publication.  (Issues about rights, etc. can be worked out on a case by case bases).

Submit!!!

Do you enjoy one of the EDS games and would like to submit material to add on to the game world?  Great!  We're taking offers.  If your a good writer and have some good stuff, we want to post it.  Special equipment, ready-made games, more "special powers" or more "space ships"... Whatever!  If it goes with our system, it's written well and we like it, we'll publish it here for other gamers to use.

Submit us an email at eyeoftheraven@hotmail.com.  Put "SUB:" before the title in the title bar and attach a RTF file only to it.  We'll take a look.  But please put a "SUB:" in the title bar, or we may not see it at all.  If you have questions for us write "QUE:" in the title bar and we'll get back to you as soon as possible.  Please query first, so we can get a record of disclosure from you, which basically allows us to publish your written material.  On the downside, since the work is meant for an EDS game, we also take over the full publishing rights to the material.

If you have questions or comments (or find an error or terrible mechanic that's not working), please let us know.  We want to make the PDF file versions as good as we can make them.

Thanks,
    C.D. Allen

Wretched Soft -- It contains video games (some free) that we have designed.  They include SpaceBlaster 2000 and  Dirt Merchant.  We're also designing a game called Galaxy One, where character try to dominate a galaxy by creating and growing an empire through many solar systems.  This also has a 3rd Edition and 3.5 edition Dungeons & Dragon's character generator.
