About The Actors
NANCY TRAVIS
Nancy Travis plays Dr. Joyce Reardon, the ambitious paranormal psychologist who leads a team of psychics to Rose Red, hoping to unlock its secrets. "I was attracted by the six-hour miniseries format," says Travis. "Stephen King is so literate, so engrossing, and he sucked me in."
Shooting for four months in Seattle was another unique aspect of Rose Red for Travis. "I had to get prepared for the length of the shoot
primed psychologically. It's not my first part, though, so I had some idea of what to expect. And I think audiences seeing Nancy Travis in this role will see a break away from the sympathetic-empathetic parts I'm used to playing. It's exciting. It's fascinating to toy with madness."
Travis has worked extensively in film, television, regional theater and on the Broadway stage. Her film credits include Three Men and a Baby, So I Married an Axe Murderer, Married to the Mob, Internal Affairs, Chaplin, Bogus, Greedy, The Vanishing, Three Men and a Little Lady and Auggie Rose. ----
MATT KEESLER
Up-and-coming young leading man Matt Keeslar plays Steven Rimbauer, the last remaining descendant of the family that built Rose Red. Steve sets the action in motion when he agrees to allow an attractive professor to attempt to awaken the dark forces that haunt the house before it's destroyed to make way for a condo development.
"You have to have a key, someone the audience can follow
a hero," says Keeslar. "That's what Steve is. I always find it challenging to the play young, male ingιnue. I think Steve was originally written as comic relief, but I tried to make him more dark. Rose Red is a symbol of his broken past."
Keeslar, who recently won critical acclaim for his performance in Urbania, has worked with an extraordinary lineup of directors, including Wes Craven (Scream 3), Greg Araki (Splendor), Whit Stillman (The Last Days of Disco), Christopher Guest (Waiting for Guffman), Penny Marshall (Renaissance Man), and Robert Redford (Quiz Show), among others.
---
KIMBERLY J. BROWN
Kimberly J. Brown plays the young autistic, telekinetic Annie. "At first I was excited to portray Annie because I knew the difference in her character would be a challenge. Then my friends started to get me even more eager with their own excitement over the fact that it was Stephen King," says Brown, who celebrated her 16th birthday on the Rose Red set.
Brown attracted critical acclaim for her performance as Ava in Tumbleweeds, which won the Filmmaker's Trophy at the 1999 Sundance Film Festival. The role garnered her an Independent Spirit Award (IFP), the Hollywood Women's Press Golden Apple Award and the Youth in Film's Young Artists Award, among others.
Brown received an Emmy-nomination at the age of 11 for her role of Marah on Guiding Light, while her lead role in the Disney Channel's Halloweentown, garnered her a devoted fan base among young audiences. Her feature film work also includes A Bug's Life, Picture Perfect and The Good Son.
---
DAVID DUKES
An extraordinary actor of remarkable range and talent, David Dukes portrays Professor Miller, the department head who is Joyce Reardon's academic nemesis. Miller considers Reardon's paranormal research an embarrassment and is determined to bring it to an end.
In a career that spanned more than 30 years, Dukes appeared in over 35 movies, including the Academy Award-nominated Gods and Monsters. He was a regular on both The Mommies and Sisters, and had a recurring role on Dawson's Creek. He guest-starred on many other series, including Harry O, Ally McBeal, The Practice and Law & Order. In a controversial episode of All in the Family, he played Edith Bunker's attempted rapist.
Sadly, Stephen King's Rose Red was the actor's final production. He unexpectedly collapsed at a sports center near Tacoma, Washington, on a day off from filming, and was pronounced dead at a nearby hospital.
---
JUDITH IVY
Judith Ivey plays Cathy Kramer, whose psychic skill is auto-writing. An extraordinary actress, Ivey received Tony Awards for Hurlyburly and Steaming, as well as two Drama Desk Awards and the coveted Obie Award (for Moonshot by Lanford Wilson). She's also received an Emmy for her role in the TV movie What the Deaf Man Heard.
Most recently seen in Half a Dozen Babies for ABC, Ivey has also been seen in television movies such as The Shady Hill Kidnapping, The Long Hot Summer, Decoration Day, We Are the Children, Frogs and The Betty Broderick Story: A Woman Scorned. She has also starred in such television series as Down Home, Designing Women, The Five Mrs. Buchanans and Buddies.
Her feature film work includes Harry and Son, The Lonely Guy, The Woman in Red, Compromising Positions, Brighton Beach Memoirs, Hello Again, Love Hurts, There Goes the Neighborhood, Washington Square, and Devil's Advocate.
---
MELANIE LYNSKY
Melanie Lynskey plays Rachel, the protective older sister of gifted, autistic psychic Annie Wheaton. 'Sister' is the only one who isn't psychic," explains Lynskey. "She's downtrodden, a mother to her sister, caring and compassionate."
Lynskey first garnered attention in Peter Jackson's controversial film, Heavenly Creatures. Without any prior acting experience, the then-15-year-old landed the role of Pauline Parker, a wayward teen who, with the help of another girl, brutally kills her mother. Lynskey received a New Zealand Film & Television Award for Best Actress for her performance in the internationally acclaimed film.
She followed Heavenly Creatures with a role in Jackson's horror thriller The Frighteners and also appeared in Foreign Correspondents for childhood friend and director Mark Tapio Kines. American film audiences have seen Lynskey as a stepsister in Ever After and in Coyote Ugly. She also appeared in the independent features Detroit Rock City and But I'm a Cheerleader.

MATT ROSS
Matt Ross brings a remarkable range and breadth of acting experience to his role as Emery Waterman, the post-cognitive anti-hero. "Emery was something I'd never done, physically and literally," says Ross. "I saw that his character was written with a great deal of humanity. You dislike him but understand him.
"I gained 25 pounds in four weeks for the role, plus they added a special effects suit for me, adding another 50 pounds," he says. "Then add in the glasses, the hair and the sallow makeup and the physicality becomes a clear character trait. The script is itself very clear about the emotional transformation. I tried to make it work inside out and outside in."
Ross has appeared in such films as The Visitors, American Psycho, Pushing Tin, The Last Days of Disco, Face Off, Twelve Monkeys.
The Oregon native he attended the University of Washington prior to receiving his MFA at The Juilliard School was happy to be back in Seattle for the shoot.
---
JULIAN SANDS
Julian Sands plays the telepath Nick Hardaway. In his career Sands has crossed continents as well as disciplines, including stage, television and film. He made a lasting impression on American audiences with A Room With a View, although he had already been seen in the critically acclaimed film The Killing Fields.
Sands has played a wide variety of roles in both film and television projects, working with some of the film world's most well-known directors, including Martha Coolidge in Crazy in Love, Paul Schrader in Witch Hunt, Ken Russell in Gothic, Robert Altman in The Room, Frank Marshall in Arachnophobia, David Cronenberg in Naked Lunch, and Mike Figgis in Leaving Las Vegas.
"I don't like schlocky, gory horror," says Sands. "But I do like mystery and the sensuality of dark forces that I found in Rose Red. When I first read the script, I wasn't afraid as much as I was compelled. I didn't expect to care for the material.
Yet the relationships, the individuals of the troupe sort-of misfit ghostbusters, if you will made it quite poignant.
---
KEVIN TIGHE
Veteran actor Kevin Tighe plays Victor Kandinsky, the psychic with pre-cognitive abilities.
"Prior to the start of shooting, I read quite a few books on psychics," he says. "I decided I wanted to base Victor loosely on one character in particular [in Beyond Coincidence]. This man began his career in a seminary, studying to be a priest, and that lead to a religious loneliness, an introverted nature that appealed to me.
I wanted to minimize the dialogue, as Victor is not open to communicating, rather he's on a receiving wavelength."
Tighe's extensive resume includes roles in such acclaimed films as Mumford, Winchell, Jade, Geronimo, What's Eating Gilbert Grape?, City of Hope, Fat Man and Little Boy, Eight Men Out, Matewan and The Graduate.
He is best known to television audiences for his roles in the series Murder One and the '70s hit, Emergency. His other television credits include roles in Shadows and Freaks & Geeks.
---
JULIA CAMPBELL
Julia Campbell plays Rose Red matriarch Ellen Rimbauer, who evolved from an innocent young bride to a terrifying presence in a house haunted by her madness.
Says Campbell about her role: "I had the audition the next day, and maybe it was exhaustion, but I had such a connection with Ellen and her journey, the sisterhood of Ellen and Sukeena, the passion of Joyce
it seemed like a good 'woman' film. In fact I still think of it as a three-woman movie."
Campbell's work in film has included roles in Thank Heaven, Bounce, Rough Draft, Romy and Michele's High School Reunion, Livin' Large and Opportunity Knocks. She has also appeared on Friends, A Slight Case of Murder, Martial Law, The Practice, Seinfeld, and Men Behaving Badly, among others. In 1999 her theater work garnered Campbell an LA Drama Critics Circle Award for Bitter Women.
---
EMILY D.
Emily Deschanel plays Pam Asbury, the touch-know psychic, her first major role since graduating from Boston University's Professional Actors Training Program.
Deschanel comes from a notable film family that includes her father, Caleb, a celebrated cinematographer (The Patriot, The Natural, Being There, The Black Stallion and A Woman Under the Influence), her actress mother, Mary Jo (The Patriot, Twin Peaks: Fire Walk With Me, 2010 and The Right Stuff), and her sister Zoe, a rising star most recently seen in Almost Famous.
Says Deschanel about Rose Red: "I just hope the Rose Red audience isn't too scared of ghosts! Be prepared to be scared out of your wits!"
---
LAURA KENNY
Laura Kenny plays Kay Waterman, Emery's over-bearing and over-protective mother. Kenny, a veteran Seattle-based actress, saw her role as a domineering mother expand with the unexpected passing of actor David Dukes. Stephen King rewrote some of Mr. Dukes' unshot scenes to include her character. "King fell in love with her," producer Tom Brodek explains. "Her role expanded because of her talent and ability."
Prior to Rose Red, Kenny had been seen on stage at various Seattle theaters, including Seattle Repertory Theatre (Six Characters in Search of an Author, The Good Times are Killing Me), ACT (The Cover of Life), 5th Avenue Theater (The Music Man), and at the Pioneer Square Theatre in her most well-known role as Carol in Angry Housewives.
Kenny's other film work includes Harry and the Hendersons, 10 Things I Hate About You, Mad Love, Love at Large and Trouble in Mind. Her television series work includes roles in Northern Exposure and Summer.
---
TSIDII LELOKA
Tsidii Leloka plays Sukeena, servant and confidante to Ellen Rimbauer in life and death. "There's a spiritual connection between Ellen and Sukeena," observes the multi-award-winning Broadway actress and singer.
The South African-born Leloka originated the critically-acclaimed role of Rafiki in the Broadway production of Disney's The Lion King, for which she won The Drama Desk Award, among others. It also garnered her Tony and Outer Critics Circle nominations.
In 1999 Leloka played the role of Bloody Mary in the musical South Pacific, for which she received a Leon Rabin Award nomination for Best Actress in a Musical. Leloka has also performed on a number of international recording hits.
Leloka graduated magna cum laude for both of her bachelor degrees, in Economics and in Music, from the University of Massachusetts in 1997, having also attended Berklee College of Music.

There are several Articles, from when Lisa was in Another World, that talk about her family and the shows she has done prior to Another World. Eventually, I will retype these and post them as HTML. Until then, I offer you the GIF's to read. The following bio is from The Patriot Production Notes (2000).
Lisa Brenner (Anne Howard) makes her film debut in "The Patriot." She recently completed her second feature, Oliver Robins' "Roomies," a romantic comedy about two people looking for the perfect roommate. She has just signed on for the upcoming feature "Sex and a Girl," written and directed by Drew Ann Rosenberg. Brenner portrayed Maggie Cory on the classic daytime drama "Another World" from 1995-1996. She has appeared on television shows such as "Chicago Hope," "Turks" and "The Magnificent Seven. Career moves: When she was eight, Brenner tried out for the part of Annie on Broadway. She made it to the final auditions, but her mother, who had Brenner's older brother to raise as well, wanted to devote herself to her family. That meant she wasn't exactly eager to travel around the country with her daughter for auditions. Now, says Brenner, her parents are enormously proud of her and still can't believe she's starring in a major film with Gibson.
Making the grade: Brenner majored in theater and English at Barnard/Columbia University.
Pet peeve: "I hate auditions. They really stress me out. It's so hard to go to one after the other and always hear that you're too tall, too short, too dark, too light. But you have to learn not to take rejection so personally and separate yourself from it."
Guilty pleasure: "I love frozen yogurt. Can't stop eating it. And it's hard to find in L.A.! I was surprised. I thought L.A. would be frozen yogurt central."
High notes: "I'm into the Backstreet Boys. I like 'N Sync too, but seriously, I can't get enough of Backstreet."

Home sweet home: "I'm from Long Island and as much as I like Los Angeles, I really miss New York. I miss my family and being able to see them all the time. It's hard being that far away. And I definitely want to move back sometime."

STEVEN BRAND

Arguably one of the finest characters of our time, Steven Brand turned heads and gained acclaim for his stellar performance as the lead heavy in The Scorpion King (2002). Though Brand cut his teeth with terrific work on television in England, he is only now beginning to receive the attention he so richly deserves in the United States. His intense, magnetic and galvanizing performance in The Diary of Ellen Rimbauer (2003) (TV), a prequel to Stephen King's Rose Red, made Rimbauer one of the highest rated TV movies of 2003.
