The news that Ronn Moss (better known to his fans as Ridge Forrester in the soap opera ‘The Bold and the Beautiful’) was to be in Bangalore thrilled an old-timer like me. He would be the main attraction at a fashion show at the Leela Palace; appropriately so, since the soap deals with a fashion house.
As one who has watched the serial for over fifteen years, I set off to see what romantic Ridge looked like in real life. Since ‘The Bold and the Beautiful’ has been on TV for a fairly long time, I expected a throng of admirers in my age-group. At the hotel, however, I felt like a dinosaur among screaming teens in daring garments.
I was lucky to meet the object of this adulation, who was, strangely enough, impressed by my apparel. I was not dressed in anything extraordinary; just a typical silk sari, draped in the traditional manner. I was delighted when Ronn Moss lavished praise on its elegance. Apparently, it was his first visit to India, and all the women he had encountered since his arrival in our country, had been clad in western attire. Ronn told me that I was the first lady he had seen at close quarters in a sari. So unique did he make me feel, that I believed I could join the bevy of beauties who would shortly enthrall us!
The show began with the gorgeous figures gracing the ramp in a dazzling display of splendour and style. The highlight of the evening was the moment when Ronn took his place with the models on the catwalk, beside the designer of their spectacular outfits. A little later, there was something of a free-for-all, as the audience tried to clamber aboard to meet Ronn.
All the while, someone with a mike had been going around, requesting viewer-comments on the fashion show. Seizing my chance, I declared, “Our designs and models can give Forrester Creations a run for their money!” A thunderous applause followed and the designer of the day thanked me for the compliment.
Not surprisingly, I returned home in high spirits, ready to recount-to all who would listen — my ‘Ronn’dezvous’ with fame. |
