Rearing to Go - A Community Art Round Up

Fort Collins, CO – The Qualifier at the Fort PRCA rodeo is proud to announce the official unveiling event for the Rearing to Go – Community Art Round Up.  On Friday February 22, corporate donors, artists, rodeo and art supporters alike will gather at the Northern Hotel to celebrate the arrival of these 10 foot rearing fiberglass stallions.  Ross Lampshire, a noted artist from Loveland, has been commissioned to design and paint the first horse for the Colorado Welcome Center in Fort Collins.  The Qualifier has worked in conjunction with the Fort Collins Convention and Visitors Bureau, Arts Alive, UniverCity Connections, the Downtown Business Association, Art in Public Places, the City of Fort Collins as well as a growing group of supporters to bring these beautiful horses to town.  They will combine the western heritage of the front range with the thriving art culture of Fort Collins. Through their sale these horses will help to support culture, tourism and artists by assisting with the seed money to revitalize Arts Alive and build a new Arts Council to give areas artists much needed support and business building resources.

Sponsors will be given the opportunity to select from 30 talented artists and their designs and work with them to bring this vision into reality.  These horses will be on a 60 day temporary display throughout the city and surrounding area.  Following the Qualifier at the Fort rodeo on September 25-27 these art pieces will be auctioned and sold a final time.  The horses’ new owners can choose to have them listed on the Convention and Visitors Bureau self guided tour maps for residents and visitors to enjoy.

“Similar art projects have been conducted nationally with great success.  We are thrilled to be a part of such a great community project that is bringing so many people together for one cause.  I hope to see this project have life beyond this year and rearing horses will be found all over our city,” says Wes Sargent, co-owner of the Qualifier at the Fort and Broken Arrow Rodeo Productions.
