Puppies and Rainbows Only: Why TheGradCafe Sucks

While looking for a site on which to share my woes about graduate school, my search brought me to a forum called TheGradCafe. Alright, cool, grad students in all sorts of majors – surely someone is bound to understand the shitty side of the graduate moon.

Yeah, what I learned is this place is exclusively for people who are happy-fucking-go-lucky about grad school and they don’t want to hear even the tiniest off-putting comment about taking one’s education beyond a bachelor’s degree. Basically, if you aren’t there to stroke or get stroked, you can get the fuck out because obviously, everything about obtaining a master’s degree is holly and jolly with no room for complaints.

If you aren’t happy happy happy and ready with your tongue hanging out to lick someone’s special little graduate asshole, you’ll get picked apart by the veteran members like a carcass gets torn to bits by hungry vultures. Sharing negative short-term or long-term chronicles about graduate studies is met with a lot of hostile bitching and, depending on just how unenthusiastic your statements are, you may even be accused of trolling. Due to my inability to shit rainbows with every word I typed, I was treated like a substandard person and bullied off the board after being informed that I was a troll (I’m a grad student, so it’s not like I was trolling for shits and giggles - I was seeking actual support).

Yes, bullied. These site members are fully grown men and women with college educations, and they still resort to high school-style terrorization to chase people away who don’t agree with them. It seems that sometimes people really don’t outgrow their teenager mentality, and this shithole is a perfect example of the clique mindset. And of course since no one in the whole wide world could EVER possibly have anything to loathe about graduate school, the only justification for someone who does so in this dump is they must be a troll. So says the PMS-ing little dickbags on TheGradCafe.

So if you’re a grad student looking for support and need to rant or bitch, then please do not go here…unless you just want to lurk since no part of the forum is off-limits as far as reading (or if you just want to mess with the people there). The members are unbelievably narrow-minded little douchebags who will run your ass off the site if you dare do so much as imply you don’t have an eternal hardon over being in a master’s program. If you pop on over there, you might by chance get a glimpse of a struggling or angry student before they’re sent packing by the delightful retards in their little cool club. They won’t ban you unless you do something really atrocious – they’ll just treat you like shit until you leave on your own.
