Rock Haven Equine Rescue was founded in 2001 by Lenore Boniface, with the support of her husband Glenn and their two children, Chasin and Cierra in Grafton, ON. It started out with one horse, Charley, and has now become the "haven" of many.
Set back on 20 acres in a wooded area, Lenore decided she wanted a barn. It was that or an addition to the house. Thinking of her own two personal horses, Charley and Vera, she thought the barn should come first. Charley had come to Lenore by way of baseball bat and anger. Knowing how much time and devotion this one horse would need, she decided to use the barn for more then her own needs. Charley started everything that Rock Haven stands for, Love, Compassion, Patience, and Understanding.
Lenore Boniface has been surrounded by horses her entire life. Her grandfather is a breeder of Standardbreds and her father is a former trainer/driver/farrier in the horse industry. It makes perfect sense that she would follow the birthright passed on to her.
Rock Haven is currently working toward charitable status but we are currently surviving on a donation basis and volunteer work at the moment. Glenn has been a great partner since Lenore has taken on this dream by financially supporting all her efforts and mucking some stalls on his days off.
Since Lenore decided to take in abused and unwanted animals, the barn is never empty of charged emotions, from both the animals and the volunteers who help. There has been everything from physical neglect to emotional damage. Lenore calls upon her own life experience to help these animals regain their zest for life and their trust in people so they may find Happy Ever After.
We are dedicated to giving animals a second chance at a healthy, happy life.
