Robin Treks Peru 2006

fundraising for cancer research uk!

Training

Ok, it's nearly April and its time for the training to kick in if I am to be fit enough to travel to Peru in less than 6 months time.  Fundraising is only one aspect of preparation for this event, it's critical that I am in the right shape to take part in the arduous uphill trek to Machu Picchu and, let me assure you, at this stage I am not.

Aims:
  • Cut out the junk food - there's no real need to eat junk food, I'm not really into the whole fast food culture as I think McDonald's etc taste like %%$$£""!!, but I need to cut out the excess of snacks, pastries, chocolate etc.
  • Eat more fruit, I have a market just down the road from me so there is no excuse for not eating healthily.
  • Drink more water - I'm nowhere near the recommended daily amount
  • There's no harm in the odd nice meal or treat (like the pancake party Sara and I have planned for next weekend)
  • Exercise - lots of!  My work provides me with a lot of work as I am up and about on my feet for long hours but I need to focus on a bit of leg work to build the muscles back up and to improve my cardiovascular.  Of course, losing a bit of that flab around my waist would be a huge bonus as well :)
Training Log:

March 31st

After a week and a bit back home in Glasgow and partying in Lochgoilhead (the only place to be seen) and indulging in a wee excess of naughty things, I'm now back in London and pounding the streets once again with heavy bags of leaflets on my shoulders.  There's something about walking for hours with a 65 litre rucksack full of paper that tires you out, but also makes you sweat shitloads out your system.  Lovely.  While in Lochgoilhead I did reintroduce myself to the swimming pool and discovered to my delight I'm still capable of doing a medium distance swim, will need to get back in the pool more often as it is, without doubt, the best way to work all your muscles.
