Jackie Robinson was born January 31st, 1919 in Cairo, Georgia. He grew up in a large family. They were the only African American family on their block. Jackie Robinson was the first African American baseball player on a professional team. He spent 9 years with the Brooklyn Dodgers. In his rookie year with the Dodgers he was the National League Rookie of the Year with a .297 average, and in 1949 he was the NLs MVP.
