Aviation History of Kingman and Mohave County

Mohave County was established on 21 December, 1864, it is one of the four original counties of  territory of Arizona.  Before the Arizona Territory, in 1852, CaptainLorenzo Sitgreaves and U. S. Topographical Enginneers surveyed the 35th parallel. Then in 1854, Army Lts. Amiel Whipple and Joseph Ives surveyed the lower Colorado River region.  Navy Lt. Edward Beale and his survey crew created the Beale Wagon Road in the 1857-8 along the 35th parallel.  Camp Beale Spring was started in 1866, but commissioned in 1871 and deactived in 1974.  Kingman is established in 1882 as siding of the new Alantic and Pacific Railroad.  Kingman and Mohave County grew in populations of people and livestock.  The cattle ranchers now had a way to get their stock to market and more miners came to the area looking for the mother load.  When technology change,Kingman and Mohave County did not want to left behind. When the dawn of aviation was happening,  Kingman set up a small landing strip for any aircraft coming to the area. This is the start of aviation in Kingman and Mohave County.
