I started riding my bike in Chicago in '95 on a semi regular basis. Thanks to participating in the AIDS Rides and Critical Mass I've been biking more and more.
When I moved from the western 'burbs of Chicago into the Uptown neighborhood, I've made getting around by bike my main mode of transportation.
On August 25th, 2004, I became car(e) free!! Yes, I still have my drivers license but living in the city, a person really doesn't need a car.
With my love for biking and since I started with AIDS Rides, I continue to participate in them.
In 2004 I was on the all volunteer staff of the HOPE Ride and advised the Ride for AIDS Chicago.
July 24th, 2004 25 riders went on Chicago's 1st "Veggie Bike & Dine" Details on it's own page!
On May 24th, I decided to ride the LifeCycle for AIDS in California, June 6-11th.
July 3rd, With Lance Amstrong as my hero and inspiration, I registered to compete in Gay Games VII, July 15-22, 2006!
"Let the training begin"
On the last Friday of each month, in cities around the world, people meet for a free bike ride called Critical Mass.
Chicago's Critical Mass meets up at Daley Plaza around 5:30pm and heads out for about a 2 hour ride in various parts of the city.
There's no leadership, managment, dues, rules, etc. making Critical Mass a total people powered movement!
Typically, one of two "massers" will create a map route and hand out copies to the people waiting at Daley Plaza. One route is choosen and off we go. Not that the route is always adheard to, but usually we stick together to a fun location.
