Road To Summit

Not to us, but to Your name...

Why do we do this?

I have fought the good fight, I have finished the race, I have kept the faith-2 Timothy 4:8

Do you not know that in a race all the runners run, but only one gets the prize?Run in such a way as to get the prize.-1 Corinthians 9:24

"Write, therefore, what you have seen..." Revelation 1:19
Go now, write it on a tablet for them,
       inscribe it on a scroll,
that for the days to come
it may be an everlasting witness.-Isaiah 30:8

Summit is the mother of all AWANA events.  It is the most intense and most exhilarating bar none.  All types of high schoolers, from athletes to mathletes, from musicians to magicians, high schooler from all over the nation come to a single city to compete against each other and reign supreme in games and quiz.  On an even more personal level is fine arts, where individuals (or groups if they choose) compete against others, but also against themselves, doing the best they can do in every category you can imagine that involves creativity and imagination.

This is how several of us who are competing, some of the most passionate about this grand event, are preparing for it.  This is how we feel about it, especially the seniors because it is out last chance.  For us, it is do or die.  In this case, all our chances and hopes of claiming those all too elusive titles in the name of our churches is what will die.

At the same time that all this is going through the front of our minds, there is something that is reminding us that these things won't last.  We are doing this for a better reason.  We are doing it to bring glory to God.  By doing our best, we are showing appreciation for the abilities, gifts, and talents he has given to us.  That is the most important part of Summit and the part that most people forget.

Hopefully, this will serve as a reminder of what we did for when our AWANA story has ended.  This way, they will understand why Summit is important to us.
