Mudding:
NEWS CENTER -- It's an annual tradition in Maine. As the frost comes out of the ground people head off into the woods with trucks and ATVs to do a little "mudding". But, the Maine Forest Service says if you're tearing up other people's land, you're breaking the law.

Forest Rangers are on the lookout for people mudding on roads without permission. Authorities say people caught damaging farmland or forest land face up to $500 in fines and possible jail time. American Forest Management Inc. manages nearly 1 million acres of land in Maine. Region Manager John Bryant says mudding activity not only tears up the roads, but it also has adverse impacts on surrounding water sheds.

Forest Rangers say people who plan to drive on back roads need to seek permission from the landowners, they say if your property is damaged you should contact the maine forest service at 827-1800 to report the damage.
