Issue 10 - Winter 2008 (Simdays 41 - 43)

 

Disaster Strikes By: Fatima Sanchez   Tragedy has hit Riverdale. The school system has come to a halt and Riverdale School of Excellence has been destroyed. It seems that over winter break a fire broke out in the school's science lab, causing not only a fire but minor explosion, resulting in the destruction of the building. The school board was to converge this coming spring to discuss enlarging the school for the growing population and families being raised in the hood. But it seems the talks will now have to be moved in the direction of rebuilding a new school from the ground up. School Superintendent Mrs. Sanchez was unavailable for comment since she was away on holiday with her family. The local children and teen population will temporarily use the community center for their educational needs.

Cooking 101 By: Peter Ottamas I had the chance to sit down with Samantha Patrelli and speak with her on the eve of the start of her new cooking show, which as of yet hasn't been given a name. She was very excited and edger to speak with me. PO: What gave you the idea of starting a cooking show? SP: Well, I must be honest. It really wasn't my idea. I was approached by the executives of a new production studio here in Riverdale. I was thrilled that they thought of me, and I couldn't pass up the offer. I have always enjoyed cooking, and having a television show would just be the icing on the cake. PO: I for one am looking forward to the start of your show. But do you feel there is an audience out there for a cooking show? SP: Yes, I do. In this day and age of a dash and eat society there are many sims who have packed on extra unwanted pounds. When you live a lifestyle of fast paced work, it's much easier to grab something from a fast food restaurant than cook at home. What my show will offer are quick meals, that are simple to make and healthy too! PO: You say that they are quick to make. Just how quick and simple will the meals be? SP: Oh, very quick. No more than 30 minutes will be needed from prep to cook time, to eating. And the majority of items will be found in any sim's pantry. Fall Is In The Air By: Fatima Sanchez   It's that time again, when the leaves on the trees turn red, golden and, brown. Flowers start to close up for their winter sleep. And it's not time to don light weight jackets. Yes, fall. It has officially arrived. And to kick off the season part time gardeners harvested their prize fruits before the first frost. We hope to see a actually sell able harvest next fall from our very own working farm gardener. But only time will tell. We asked around, wondering what local Riverdalers liked most about this time of year. “I enjoy the dew that welcomes you every morning on your lawn grass. There's just something special about fall dew.” Samantha Kim “I enjoy taking a stroll around my block collecting leaves. And then heading back home to make a hot bowl of chicken noddle soup.” Emma King “This is one of the best times of years to fish salmon. They are spawning... or something. What will Become of Riverdale? Just what will come of our lovely hood with the new law passed, banning Riverdalers from marrying Townines? This question was the topic of discussion for many a sim family over breakfast, lunch, and dinner. Many, as myself, were confused. We are only 79 sims strong, the population is growing, but at a slow rate. We will never survive. Mayor Snowden's office at City Hall has been bombarded with e-mails and a dew protesters. Wanting/needing answers to their questions. There was another emergency meeting held on the last night of summer for the Hood Council. They meet behind closed doors, but from my trusted informant they did not meet long. The following morning there was a press conference with Spokes Sim, Kristin Sanchez. “As many know there was a council meeting help last night. It was in regard to the new law which was pasted, banning marriage with Townies and NPCs. After much consideration and debate, we, the Hood Council, have decided to lift the ban and to admen that law. It is not conducive for such a small Hood, still growing to restrict a small population like that. So form Sim Day 31 on all Riverdalers are free to marry and employ Townies and NPC's. All the Council asks, is that shop owners try to employee Riverdalers first to support our growing economy.” This is music to my reporter's ears. The out cries of the residents have been heard. This makes us feel good, that our Council listens to us and takes us seriously. Thank you Mayor and the rest of the Administration.

Issue 7 - Sim Days 26 - 30

 

 

THIS JUST IN!!!!

 

Mayor Snowden called an emergency council meeting the day before yesterday (sim day 28). I was unclear what the meeting was about, but it was very hush hush, no one knew other than the select few who serve on the council board. After two hours behind locked doors all the members filed out and Mayor Snowden held a press confrense. What was to come was a shock and surprise to all residents living in Riverdale, and those hoping to move in through marriage, etc.

The Mayor announced that stating the following day, Sim day 29, all townies and NPC's would be banned from moving into Riverdale. They cound not file for immigration if they became engaged to a Riverdaler and then became playable. They have been banned from the school and children of Riverdale who maintain relationships with townie children would have to sever all contact, the same for all adult sims. Many sims were shocked that such a drastic and some concidered racist actions would/have taken place.

David Ottamas was very concered: "I'm worried. I met my future wife away at uni. and we are planning to marry this coming summer. Will the Mayor deport her? send her back? This is not fair."

Samantha Patrelli was unphased. "I'm not worried. I just married my husband. So he beat the deadline."

This reporter can't help but to wonder, was Mrs. Patrelli tipped of by somone? She is on the Administrative board, was a memo passed around the them?

Riverdale School of Excellence is proud to announced that it has complete its first school year. The new school Superintendent Kristin Sanchez thanked the wonderful staff and teachers. And reminded them that though the suffered a loss (Dora Ottamas death last Fall) they served the community and the edger young minds thirsting for knowledge. With such a wonderful start R.S.E. has decided to become an elite private academy. So starting next school year only a select few will be admitted. Issue 6 - Sim Days 2 -25

 

Far East Visit

 

The first Senior Class trip of Riverdale School of Excellent went on a tour of the Far East. Students, Fatima, Mansur and, Zayilla, were accompanied by Jodie Dawson. She is currently filling in at the school until a replacement teacher is found do to the death of Dora Ottamas.

They had a wonderful trip, lasting six days and five nights. They toured the local city, participated in local customs, and tasted local cuisine. What a great way to end their secondary education and get ready for higher learning.

In loving memory of Ester Smith. Ester departed from Riverdale on Sim Day 23 at 6:50 pm. She leaves behind her loving son, Liam Smith, his wife, Tazikati, and her two grandchildren. Our thoughts and prayers are with her family in their sadness.

Sadly, for reasons that were beyond our control a few of the families that were supposed to have immigrated to Riverdale could not. Alberto and Lucia Vermicelli from Mermaid's Haven, and the Newbie family were lost. We are greatly saddned that we lost them, but we were able to welcome the Novak family with no problems.

FIRE!!!

What a welcome to the Neighborhood of Riverdale. New immigrant Tosha Johnson accidently set fire to her apartment while making dinner. Fire fighers arrived on teh sceen quickly putting the flames out and adviding anything else getting burnt other than Tosha's mac n' cheese.

Announcements:

Riverdale opened it's first school on Sim Day 16. Riverdale School of Excellence opend its doors and welcomed it's firsts students, three teens and six children, along with a teaching staff of four, janitoral staff of one and, Principle, Kristin Sanchez.

Principle Sanchez took us on a small tour of the newly constructed building. First up was the Biology Lab. State of the art, and ready to get those teens ready who are intrested in the medical field.

Then we went over to the gym. Whipping our children into shape and teacing them a healthy lifestyle!

Then we were off to the debate room. Even the younger kids can practice their lecturing skils.

We rounded our tour at the computer lab, were students can brush up or improve their skills and earn badges.

There are a few more classrooms along with a cafateria and two homerooms. There is room to grow and Riverdale continues to grow. R.S.E. is preparing our children now for their careers in the future.

 

College is Great!

College students Simone Patrelli and David Ottamas just finshed their first semester of their sophmore year. We hope to welcome them back home soon! Good luck you two and keep up the hard work!

Issue 4 - Hood Day 16

ROBBER CAUGHT!

There has been local burgleries going on for the past few weeks in Riverdale. Many have beefed up their security systems as well as car alarms to prevent their homes from being hit. Well, last night Mayor Snoweden and family became the focus of the thift's attacks. She entered their home during the night, after everyone was alseep. But due to his stae of the art security system the police were alerted as well as waking up the family, and the burgler was arrested after a fight between an officer. Maybe now Mayor Snowden will direct his priorites and monies into building us a Police Station. Good thing Sim City has a small location close to us for the time being.

 

Fishing Day Gone Bad

 

It was a lovely day on Hood day 14, the fish were bitting and it was pleasently warm for  summer. So it was no suprise that many families headed down to Willow's Pond to do a bit of fishing. But that all changed as a dark cloud moved in. From eye witness reports a local Townie/Elder, Katy McGraw (54) was sitting enjoying the slight breezing coming from the lake when another Townie, Melissa Fancey (26) stepped on her toe. The older woman asked her to apologise, where the younger refused. Instead they started to argue. That's when more onlookers arrived. And that's when the altercation turned physical with Ms. Fancey throwing the first punch. The fight ended with Mrs. McGraw being the losser. I'm sure, it's not like a elder can beat up an adult. Police arrived a few moments later to take both women away. They now enter the history books as the first fines $200 simolians for public fighting.

 

Local Fined For Disturbing the Peace

 

Local teen, Mansure Sanchez, was fined for knocking over a neighbors trashcan as they left for work early morning on Hood Day 14. He was fined $100 simolians for disturbing the peace. I have to wonder were are todays youth headed? First it's knocking over tras bins, what's next?

This years Food-Expo is being hosted at Eden. If you would like more information please visit their site at Eden.

 

 

Here is what Riverdale has planned for the June (In the Garden) portion of the Food-Expo.

 

Welcome/Food-Expo Kick-Off at Riverdale Community Park:

Mayor Snowden will give a few words before the festivities begin.

There will be a BBQ, swimming, family games, and to end the night fire works.

Admission: Single: 20, Family (of four): 15,(of six or more): 26, Elders: 10.

 

Lecture(s):

Chief Samantha Patrelli will give a small lecture on the importance of fresh produce as being the key

to a great meal. Along with a tour of her small garden.

 

Contests: Fishing

Entry: Adults/children/Elders

Prize: 100 simolians to the first in each division to catch a large mouth bass

 

Raffle Tickets will be sold at the park at 5 simolians each. The winner will receive a 250 simolian gift

certificate to spend as he/she sees fit.

 

Hood Days 12 - 16

 

Announcements:

 

Mayor Snowden (pictured above with daughter, Fathimah) opened the Riverdale Community Park to kick off summer. All day activities were held, including a BBQ.

The park offers a pool to cool off on hot summer days, a pet area with shelter as well as food dishes, and a play area for the kids.

"I hope this park will benefit the citizens of Riverdale now and future generations to come." - Mayor Snowden.

It was a lovely event, I hope there will be more.

Simon Patrelli, 18, was the first teen to leave for University. Good luck, have fun, and remember to study.

Congratulations to Priya and Sanjay Ramaswami, they welcomed baby Muhindr into their lives on day 5 at 3:30 AM.

Mansur Sanchez transitioned into a teen on day 6

Nishira Sanchez transitioned into a child on day 6

 

Announcements:

Samantha Patrelli opened the first resident owned community lot, a restaurant, Cafe Mode. It serves down home cooking, mac n' cheese, fried sea bass, and banana creme pie, just to name a few of their delights. I'm sure will good eating like this, residents will need a gym soon.
