Corpus Christi Caller Times (9/14/2009)-
It was a hard fought game, but in the end, the Riptide were able to prevail. Last year, the College Station Wardogs were able to go into FedEx Coliseum and come away with a surprising upset win over the Riptide Week Two. This year around... it was the opposite effect. The Corpus Christi Riptide went into College Station and managed to pull away with a 32-29 win after a game-tying field goal was missed.
"We played hard, we played tough, and it paid off", WRDB Vance Simecka said, "But we're past this win, and already looking forward to our home opener against the Outlaws", he finished.
"I told these guys they would get one day off every week they get a victory", Riptide Head Coach Chris Siegfried went on, "So they went out there, and got a win. All jokes aside, College Station played a fantastic game, but we need to improve in every area of the game. Mikail didn't do so well in his drop kicks only making one all night long, so I told him he better start practicing, cause we're not giving up on them. I also feel our run game didn't do as well as we had hoped, and John (Kaleo) really needs to improve throwing. Its his first action in a long time, so its okay, but he needs to get much better", he finished.
"Yeah, as coach said, I didn't play so well, and I need to get better", QB/Offensive Coordinator John Kaleo continued, "But this was my first action since last year's playoff loss, and I expected to be rusty. Next week will go a lot better", he finished.
The Corpus Christi Riptide are 4-1 all-time against Arkansas. The loan loss was their first game played against each other in the OIF2 back in 2005. Since then the Riptide have won 4 straight, including 3 in the OIFL . The latest was Week 7 of the 2007 season, when the Riptide prevailed 77-70 at home. The teams did not play in 2008, but will play two more this season as they renew their rivalry that began in the 2005 OIF2 season.
