Prime Minister's Questions-Type Links

These could be useful. Could. Check out Ribosome either way.

Prime Minister's Questions

Parliament

  • 10 Downing Street Prime Minister's Website.
  • A-Z of Parliament BBC's list of parliamentary terms.
  • BBC News Politics Where to go for current Commons news (not worth checking more than 3 times a week or so).
  • BBCParliament The website for (surprise) the BBC's channel devoted to Parliament. What's nice about this is that you can watch the channel live--and it's on all the time, unlike ParliamentLive.
  • Budget 2005 The BBC's guide to the governemnt's current Budget. Gordon's funny.
  • ePolitix An interesting site, make no mistake. It has MP websites, MP blogs, interviews, and a whole lot of other stuff, too. Good despite the obvious spelling error in the name.
  • Hansard Transcripts of House (Commons or Lords) debates since 1988. It has a search engine, although I'm rarely able to make heads or tails of it.
  • House of Commons Obvious.
  • Guide to the Houses Technically part of some MP's website, this has good maps of the Houses and some explanations I haven't yet read.
  • Introduction to Parliament The weaker, official A-Z of Parliament. The BBC's is more concise.
  • ParliamentLive.TV Pretty much what it promises. But if you want to see what's going on in Parliament RIGHT THIS SECOND, this is the place to go. Plus archives of debates.
  • Virtual Tour If by "Virtual Tour" the BBC means "Some cool panoramic pictures and the occasional video." Either way, this is pretty cool. It has The Commons, the Lords, the Main Lobby, and some hallways. Good times.

The Cabinet

MP and Constituency Guides

  • BBC's MP Database Another not-up-to-date guide to Members of Parliament. The BBC way!
  • Constituency Map You wouldn't believe how difficult it is to find this type of thing. Which is pretty absurd, considering the straight-forwardness of the information, not to mention its importance. And this is still only the best I could do.
  • Find Your MP Go ahead! Just try! This one goes by constituency--however, beware! It is OUT OF DATE. Other than that, it's another okay BBC product.
  • Guardian's MP Guide A guide to MPs courtesy of everybody's favorite newspaper by that name, The Guardian. Who am I kidding. The Guardian is a total jerk. But this guide is good.
  • Membership of the Commons An alphabetical list of MPs on the official website.
  • Politics 97 MP Guide An old BBC MP Guide. It's fun to look through, but keep in mind that it's of very little use for current politics.

Parties (not the fun kind)

  • Labour "Britain is Working." Oh, is it? The site of the Labour Party.
  • Conservatives "Less Talk, More Action." That's funny, coming from an Opposition party. The Tory site.
  • Liberal Democrats "The Official Liberal Democrat Website." They're not lying--there are quite a few imposters out there!
  • Other Parties A link to a BBC page that has links to other parties I'm not going to bother putting links to. Keep in mind, even those aren't all the parties in the UK. Just sayin'.

Specific Elections

  • VOTE 2001 BBC coverage of the election. Try and guess the year. I dare you.
  • Road to the Election Waiting for the 2005 General Election (May 5th).
