UPDATE 2/18: Please visit our petfinder site for all current adoptees and information. http://www.petfinder.com/shelters/MI691.html
We still have 15 rats in the rescue plus 9 we have kept. We have adopted out a total of 29 rats so far since late June! Please give these guys a home. They need so much more love than I can give them individually. Lets keep those adoptions coming! These kiddos want to come home with you!
Meg's Magical Rat Rescue started out as a single person who sometimes helped rats in bad situations by adopting them into her own rat family, to an offical rescue in June of this year, when 13 rats were surrendered to me, under penalty of death (i.e. if you don't take them, we'll kill them. So of course I took them immediately.) The surrenderer started out with 2 rats and let nature take its course, but then still wanted to keep the mom, and the second litter of six, that was newborn at the time of the surrender. I tried to talk them into giving them over, but they refused. I was able to rehome five of the rats in New Jersey, when I drove out there for a family vacation.
Six weeks after the initial surrender, I get a call saying I can have the rest of the rats. By then, mom is pregnant again, as are 3 daughters. Upon arriving, due to her very young age, and the stress of the trip, one of the daughters miscarried. Within a few days after that, we had a litter every couple days, until the rescue had grown to 46 rats. All babies are now around 10 weeks, and the older boys who were the very first litter surrendered in June are about 5-6 months old. These rats really deserve the chance at a loving forever home that can give them all the individual attention they need. I give them care and lots of good food, but it is just impossible to give each baby the love it needs individually outside of a bit of run around time. They need you. Please contact us to adopt.
If you can't adopt, we always welcome donations in money or in supplies. Our paypal address is MaevePotter@gmail.com and you may email me at the same address for my address if you have any supplies you are able to send us.
WISH LIST
1. We go through a lot of baby food, baby cereal, and gerber cereal puffs here. All varieties of baby food are welcome.
2. Bedding is another thing we need a lot of all the time. We use Yesterdays News or Harlan (Native Earth on petfooddirect.com) Sani Chips, but any recycled newspaper or hardwood bedding is fine.
3. We can also always use new hammocks and blankies for the kids' shelves in the cage.
4. Our big wish right now is a Martin's Playpen for the rats to use for their free range time. With so many of them, this would vastly increase the amount of time they get out of their cages.
Please email us at MaevePotter@gmail.com with any questions. We do have an adoption application on our website: http://www.freewebs.com/ribbonhammocks/adoptionapplication.htm
