ABOUT YOUR DJ'S

WHITE-E

White-e was introduced to the rave scene by his older sister back in 92, and spent the next couple of years going raving all over the country.  However, after seeing himself dancing on a Helter Skelter video he decided to save up and buy himself some decks as he couldn't take the humiliation of seeing himself dancing that badly again!!!   Through the mid to late nineties he busied himself playing Drum & Bass and later on, House music at various events around his home county of Bedfordshire.  He also played regular slots on two local pirate stations that earned him a residency at a night called 'Raise The Roof' which wrapped up in 2000.

Since that time White-e has promoted a series of Old Skool nights called 'Back to the Future' which attracted a loyal following of regulars who made the nights a resounding success.

He describes his mixing style as "a bit ropey" and describes the content of a typical, White-e set as being "a collection of records played in random order and occasionally mixed".  Cheers for that one White-e!  A man who loves his Old Skool, lets see what he comes up with for us.

TIMELESS

Timeless has been into music from an early age.  He became interested in the rave scene whilst still at school when the likes of The Prodigy were at the top of the pop charts!   This led to seeking out more of the same over the next few years via tapes and pirate radio and then going to the clubs and raves once old enough.  Timeless started off as an MC, blagging the mic (everyone wanted to be an MC!) at events such as Ravenation at Bagleys amongst others.

It wasn't until his early 20's after leaving his job and having a lot of free time on his hands, that he invested in some Techics and started mixing.  The free time also meant he was able to go out again - up and down the country every month chasing that elusive vibe of yesteryear at Oldskool events like Illusion, Raindance, Amnesia House and many smaller nights.  This led to meeting like minded DJ's and promoters and playing out in his home of Bedfordshire and London plus doing a few radio shows.

His main love is still Oldskool Hardcore and the new sounds of Hardcore Breaks, which he has been into since it started - pushing it whenever he plays out and he feels go hand in hand with the classics (and can't understand those Oldskool heads who dismiss it just because its new).  Timeless also plays Nu Skool Breaks, Drum & Bass, Jungle and Classic House.  A man with diverse tastes who describes his style simply "I just play what I'd want to hear when I’m out, keeping it uplifting and playing to the crowd - without resorting to the obvious anthems!".  We look forward to hearing what he will bring to Retroactive!

DJ FORCE

DJ Force has been DJ'ing since 1990 and over the last 2 decades has played at the first ever Dreamscape in 1991 and ESP when it was at Milwaukees as well as Peace Fest, Dance Fest, Raindance to name a few. He has also been involved with pirate radio and had a show on London's legendary Don FM.  He is still playing out at events around the country on the Oldskool circuit at events such This Is Oldskool, Sunday Sessions and 1992 in Brighton.

GLENN ASTON

Based in the West Midlands, Glenn is well known for playing Oldskool Rave and House music from 1986-1993 as well as Nu Skool Hardcore Breaks.  Glenn is currently a resident DJ at Raindance, Flashback and Raveology.

But Glenn's roots started way back as early 80's with the Hip Hop/ Electro scene.  It wasn’t until 1985 Glenn started experimenting with electro music.  Before Glenn got into djing he was involved in the graffiti scene (1985-1990) and was a founder member of 'The Rogue Troopers' (Rgt/Rt) with top grafiti artist Chu in 1988.

In 1988 Glenn met Jem Atkins who was a very talented scratch DJ, Glenn was amazed by the skills this guy had.  Glenn spoke to Jem and told him that he always wanted to be involved with DJ'ing/ music from the early 80's.  Jem showed Glenn the ropes and gave Glenn lots of support over the next year.

Glenn left the graffiti scene back in 1989 when he was working on legal work will other artists as Goldie, Desire, Tuma, Size, Zukie and Zed just to name a few to purse his love of music.  Since then the rest has been history and Glenn has gone onto play all over the UKand also in Europe for the likes of Energy, Raindance, Flashback, Raveology, Innovation, One Nation, Music First, Southern Exposure, Dance Energy, Antisocial Breaks (ASBO), Illusion and now Retroactive!

DJ SNYPA

Roger started DJ’ing in 1986 after going to UK Fresh 86’ at Wembley stadium where he saw the likes of Jazzy Jeff, Grandmaster Flash on the wheels of steel.   In 1989 he formed the UK Hip Hop crew Killa Instinct in 1990 their first recording was signed up by Simon Harris of Music of Life Records.

They went on to release 4 EP’s between 1990 and 1993, with 2 No1 singles on Kiss 100FM's Hip Hop chart. They toured the UK and Europe alongside Hijack, Silver Bullet, Blade, Gunshot, Hardnoise, Brotherhood and Ready Kill.  In 1994 the group were signed to M.O.V.E Records from Germany at which point Snypa left to pursue a career in Dj’ing.

From 1994 onwards Roger was playing a mixture of House, Trance, Hard House, Hardcore and Drum & Bass securing residencies at House of Windsor, Mirage, Back 2 Reality and Evolution etc.  Snypa has always played Oldskool/Hardcore in its various forms and this is the main focus of his DJ’ing although he is currently playing Drum & Bass, Jungle, Nu Skool Breaks and House at various events across the country.

DJ Snypa is now one of the main DJ's on the UK's Oldskool circuit playing at events such as Moondance, Epidemik, One Nation, Slammin Vinyl, Innovation, Rave Utopia, Absolute Oldskool, Dance Energy and Uproar amongst others.  He is the main resident at Moondance and all of EHM's other promotions over the last 5 years.

All in all DJ Snypa is one DJ who is not affraid to take risks, do things differently and play to the crowd.  We look forward to having him at Retroactive!  If you want to know more see what the man has to say for himself on this interview courtesy of IMOTV http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=_upsZVn6nFE
