This is an easy to read photoshop tutorial for making a grunge sig, this is what it'll look like when it's done
1. Start out with a image 450 x 150 pixels, and make sure the background is white.
2. Get some good grunge brushes, a good place to look is www.deviantart.com or you can always just search google for them. Make a new layer, (Layer>New layer) and with your foreground color black, brush a little on your blank image.
3. Make a new layer, chose a different brush, and brush some more with the color as black.
4. Make a new layer again, pick a different brush, and brush some more with the color as black.
5. Once again, make a new layer, change your foreground color to white, and brush a little on your sig.
6. Last time for this part, change your foreground color to black, brush some more to get it to look like this. Make sure you have some light and dark spots. Your will always look different, so just try a few different things and get it how you like it.
7. Good news, the boring part of thisd tutorial is over, next we find a picture or 2 to add. I'll be using a sticker I scanned here at home, and a pic of a ferrari enzo I found on a google seach.
8. Paste your first picture into the sig, and desaturate (Image>Adjustmenst>Desaturate) it to help it blend in better. There's a couple options here, if you change the blendimg mode of all your layers you can drop the picture below those layers (In your layers pallete). If you want a faster way just lower the opacity or fill of the picture layer and the grunge background will come into it. Sometimes, depending on the picture you'll have to fix the edges by erasing a little. just make sure the picture layer is highlighted before you do this. After changing the opacity, this is how I set mine up.
9. Ok, now for the next picture, you dont need to have 2, but I'm using 2 for this sig. When you first paste the image in, it'll look something like this.
10. We need to get rid of the area around the car, so get out your eraser, and zoom in. MAKE SURE you dont erase any of the car, just what's around it. Take your time and once its done desaturate it. Should look something like this..
I lowered the opacity of the enzo layer to 80%, you can leave it as is, or lower it even more to your tastes.
11.Now it's time to add some color. With your top layer highlighted, make a new color balance layer. Go to layers>new adjustment layer>color balance. And use these settings..
Midtones:
-100, 0, +100
Highlights:
+50, 0 -50
Leave shadows alone for now, your sig should look something like this..
12. Make a new color balance layer like before and use these settings..
Shadow:
+75, 0, -100
Midtones:
+100, 0, 0
Leave highlights alone.
13. Our sig should look about like this..
14. Ok, for some text just make a new layer, add some text in whatever font you like, and lower the opacity. That'll blend the text in with the image. Then drag the text layer right below the 2 color balance layers and you'll get something like this..
15. Ok, most of you will like it just like that, of course you can change the brightness, contrast, more color balance layers, whatever you like.
15. Last but not least, lets add a border to this sig. Go to layers>merge visible. Next hit control + a to select the outside of your sig.
16. Go to edit>stroke. Make the width 3 pixels, "outside", with a color that matches your sig. Then go to stroke again, 2 pixels with a color that contrasts the first (like black and white) and make it "inside". One more time, go to stroke again, 1 pixel with the same color as the first time you did it, and "inside".
I'd like to see what you come up with too so post an image link on my shoutbox sometime. Any comments or questions please post there too. Go to Homepage and Shoutbox!
