International Registry of Animal Rescuers

Who We Are

The Rescue Registry grew out of the need for a centralized source for information and assistance for anyone who is involved, or wishes to become involved, in Animal Rescue. There is no fee for registering, just the desire to help. The idea for The Rescue Registry was first put forward by the managers of PetLife of Ocean City, a feline rescue group located in Ocean City, MD., USA. (www.freewebs.com/wwwpetlifeoccom/ ).

The Rescue Registry is open to all groups and individuals who are involved in Animal Rescue, and the safety and preservation of all species of animals, in any capacity. We realize that there are issues unique to certain species as well as geographical areas and we want to work with everyone in the best and most useful manner possible. We ask that you, as fellow Rescuers, occasionally survey all of the groups in all of the Rescue categories to see if there is someone there who could benefit from your experiences and expertise. Every one of us knows a lot more than we think, we just need the challenge of applying that knowledge.

One item that we ask for is that you or your group be non-profit. We know that obtaining the necessary certification is a long, tedious and expensive process, particularly when dealing with the government in the United States, so 501(c)3 certification is not a requirement. However, if you are involved with animals only to make money there are plenty of other websites that will suit your needs. This site is for the individual who has no qualms about taking a bit from their household budget in order to help an animal in need and will do so without a moments hesitation. We ask that you be honest with us, and yourself, when applying to join here. This is to protect the members from those who may wish to prey on their generosity.

We reserve the right to deny membership to anyone we feel will abuse the trust and good intentions that make up a Rescuer. For this reason we reserve the right to deny membership to any shelters that have shown a wanton disregard for animal preservation. While we understand that euthanization is a necessary evil, we also feel that  it's practice is being abused by institutions in some areas. Many of our members have devoted themselves purely to saving animals that are on shelter 'short' lists, it is disrespectful to them and everyone else that works so hard to preserve life to allow those institutions to enter these pages.
