Saddlebred Rescue specializes in equine rescue of mostly Saddlebred and Morgan horses before they are sold at auction to go to slaughter.  Most horses have been on the road pulling carriages for the Amish and Mennonites in Lancaster County PA.  Some are obtained from other sales and individuals.  They are available for adoption across the country and in some cases to Canada.  These horses are typically placed in lesson programs or with individuals for their personal use.  They are typically able to “earn a living” so to speak.  They are professionally evaluated to determine their needs and capabilities before placing them in an approved home.

NEER does NOT sell ANY horses.
NEER does NOT promote any breeding.
NEER deplores the breeding of rescues.
NEER has NO paid members.

Non-Profit 510(c)(3) Organization

We are located approximately 50 miles northwest of San Antonio, TX.

We are entering our 21st year of rescuing any and all equine, no matter what condition. We provide a safe haven for old, unwanted and abused horses. We have education, sponsorship and adoption services. We are open to the public on Tuesday, Thursday and Saturday from 10am til 2pm. Entrance fee is carrots and/or apples. Our horses like Pop-Tarts too!

Horses not adoptable live out their lives with us. We do everything in our power to save a horse, but if that isn't possible, they are put to sleep by our veterinarian. We are convinced that our horses "talk" to the new comers because after a day or two, they are calm and relaxed and waiting for those treats! They seem to know they are in a safe place.

The Trust was founded in 1991 primarily to offer a place of peace and refuge for old, injured, unwanted, abandoned, neglected and abused donkeys, who through no fault of their own, no longer fit into a world geared for profit and productivity and which is presently dominated by heavy agricultural machinery. Once an important part of the Irish heritage and farming economy these forgotten animals so often suffer through mankind's greed for money and power and even today are generally valued more for their financial worth than for the spirit within.

Situated in truly magnificent surroundings adjacent to the Carrowkeel Megalithic Site at Castlebaldwin, Co. Sligo, Ireland, only 5 kms off the main N4 Sligo to Dublin road, the Sanctuary is open to visitor’s at all reasonable times. Bring waterproof boots, enjoy your visit and give these humble animals the love they deserve.

Nerja Donkey Sanctuary is located in the Province of Malaga (Spanish Provincia de Málaga) on the southern coast of Spain on the Costa del Sol. We were recently featured on Gordon Ramsay's Kitchen Nightmares and we care for donkeys (el burro), baby donkeys (el burrito), mules (el mulo), horses (caballos), dogs (perros), cats (gatos), chickens (pollos), goats (la cabra) and more! So if you're looking for things to do on your holiday in Spain then look no further! The Sanctuary is constantly evolving as we rescue more animals so we have to remain very flexible with our layout and fence designs. The donkeys also cause a lot of damage to fences so they keep us on our toes as repairs are always needed.

Equine Rescue

Redwings Horse Sanctuary was established in 1984 and works to provide and promote the welfare, care and protection of horses, ponies, donkeys and mules across the United Kingdom. Its work is entirely funded by public donation and involves rescue and rehabilitation, specialist sanctuary care and prevention through education – seeking to educate owners before problems arise.

Every year Redwings takes in around 200 horses, ponies, donkeys and mules in need of help. Many are elderly, have veterinary problems or are extremely nervous, and they will stay in the care of the Sanctuary - which currently looks after over 1100 equines on a daily basis. That’s a lot of mouths to feed! Those horses and ponies with the potential for a working life are meanwhile re-homed through the charity’s Guardianship scheme and currently more than 500 equines are enjoying active lives in Guardian homes across the East of England.
