We can judge the heart of man by his treatment of animals."

 Immanuel Kant

"I cannot believe that the purpose of life is to be "happy." I think the purpose of life is to be useful, to be responsible, to be honorable, to be compassionate. It is, above all, to matter, to count, to stand for something, to have made some difference that you lived at all."     -- Leo C. Rosten

Details of our organisation:

We at Caged Bird Rescue work to retrieve sick, injured unwanted and problem caged birds, giving them a safe home in our newly built and approved sanctuary. Our rescue work covers all areas within Greater Manchester and parts of the North West of England.

Our sanctuary holds macaws, parakeets, cockatoos, amazons, african greys, senegals, conures, cockatiels, finches, love birds and more. We preserve these fragile species and ensure they live secure and contented lives.

We are happy to take in any unwanted caged bird and will do our best to collect them from you. Please contact us for more details

We believe the Battery Hen Welfare Trust is unique in the way that it works with caged producers, taking birds destined for slaughter and finding them homes as family pets.  Over 130,000 caged birds have been re-homed since the charity began in 2005.  This figure represents less than 1% of the total birds kept in cages, but the re-homing initiative has enormous influence on consumers, has resulted in increased free range egg production in the UK and brought the issue of caged production to the fore.  As a result the charity has also drawn considerable celebrity interest, enjoying support from Jamie Oliver as Patron.  Every small flock of caged birds homed as family pets acts as an efficient educational tool spreading the word about the sentience of these creatures and how consumers can improve life for all laying hens through discerning purchases.  We welcome interest/exchange of views from anyone on the matter of egg production.
