AEC RENOWN AND AEC BRIDGEMASTER LOWBRIDGE BUSES OF THE 1950'S AND 1960'S.

 

At the 1954 Commercial Motor show, AEC introduced a new lighter double deck chassis, the Regent V MD3RV model and South Wales Transport received the first production batch, placing them in service the following year. This webpage will feature an enthusiast view of some of his favourite South Wales AEC's delivered between 1956 and 1967 and includes AEC Regent V's, Bridgemaster and Renowns delivered to SWT.

1959

The first AEC Bridgemasters to be supplied to SWT arrived with a batch of four, a further five arrived later in the year. There was also a batch of seven AEC Regent V models with forward entrance 71 seat Weymann bodies, 527/9/32 were delivered in an unpainted aluminium finish. Two further AEC Regent V models based on the 2D3RA chassis were single-deckers, they had special low-height bodies for use in the Llanelly dock area.

BKG 718C. BKG 720C. DBO 728C. DBO 729C.  AEC Renown 3B3RA Northern Counties H38/29F. ex Western Welsh Omnibus Company. These AEC's were transferred with the Neath Abbey depot and services. The four AEC Renowns 877-80 replaced the Neath Abbey allocation of Leyland Atlanteans before the South Wales take-over.
