Meant To Be
Disclaimer: I have no money and what little I do have I spend on anime stuff. So all those big lawyer-type people, I don’t sue me. I am only borrowing your characters.
Summary: Lets get one thing perfectly clear, I HATE SAKUYA!!!!!! Don’t worry though, I don’t bash her very much here. Anyway, back to the summary. This is what I think should have happened the day after the night when Tenchi gasp kissed shudders Sakuya. The story line of the entire show changes, but its my fic so BACK OFF!!!!!!! By the way, this is a Ryoko and Tenchi story. (I haven’t seen the series since toonami took it off, so some of the things will be wrong.)
Tenchi wakes the next morning to his blaring alarm clock.
“I’m up darn it!!” He said trying to shut the thing off. He ended up just unplugging it. He lay back down on his bed as the previous nights events played out in his head.
‘I kissed her, but I didn’t fell anything. Heck, holding Ryoko’s hand had more of an affect on me than that kiss.’ He pondered restlessly.
‘I thought I was starting to like Sakuya, but kissing her just felt so… empty.’ Then a thought struck him.
‘Oh gods, what if she asks for a relationship! I don’t want to be with her and I definitely don’t want a pseudo relationship with her. But I don’t want to hurt her… Crap Tenchi, what have you gotten yourself into!!!’ Noticing his rumbling stomach, he pushed these thoughts aside and got up to fix himself something to eat. On his counter, he saw all the pictures he and Ryoko had taken on their date. He smiled as he thought of her.
‘She is beautiful…’ Tenchi let his mind wander as he approached his refrigerator. On it, Tenchi found a note. A note from Ryoko.
Dear Tenchi,
As I saw last night, it is plainly obvious that you are in love with Sakuya.
Tenchi’s heart stopped. ‘Did she see?’
Though it broke my heart to see the both of you kissing under the moonlight, it helped me realize just how much I was deluding myself. I know that it isn’t fair, but I feel that now is as good of a time as any to tell you that I love you. I have loved you since the first few moments I saw you. I had hoped that one day you would return my love, but I think that now, I would only be in your way. I hope that someday you will love someone as much as I love you. I only want you to be happy Tenchi. Even if the one to make you happy is Sakuya. Please know that I will always love you, that you have my eternal devotion and that my heart is yours forever. Do me one last favor, please tell Aeka that you love Sakuya. Though we fight constantly, we are actually friends and I would hate to have her find out the way I did. Tell the others that I have left, and that I did my chores before I left, and also that I took some food. I am sorry that I couldn’t have been the one to have your love and make you happy. I don’t know where I will go, but I will most likely stay on this planet since Ryo-ohki has grown so attached to Sasami. Tell the others good-bye for me Tenchi.
Eternal Love from a Dove with broken wings,
Ryoko
Tenchi’s world seemed to shatter. What had he done? Did she see? How did she see? What was he going to do? These questions screamed at him in his head.
‘DAMN!!! All because of me! Me, because I couldn’t figure out my emotions!! Me, because I had to know if I loved her!! Me, me, me!!!!’ His insides twisted with guilt. Now not only had he gotten himself involved with Sakuya, he had lost Ryoko too. Images off her began to run through his mind. Images of her smile, her amused eyes, her face, her blue hair. But the most prominent images that filled his mind were ones of the look of hurt and anguish that must have crossed her beautiful features when she saw him kiss Sakuya.
Tenchi quickly dressed and used the space portal to his home. He dropped from the ceiling right in front of a very worried Sasami.
“Tenchi,” she asked in a frightened voice, “where is Ryoko?” Tenchi stood up and looked at her, and said,
“She’s gone, Sasami, she ran away. All because of me.”
“What do you mean, Tenchi?”
“I kissed Sakuya to see if I loved her, but I didn’t feel anything. Ryoko saw the kiss, and I found this note from her this morning.” Handing Sasami the note, he noticed how the girl was in a state of shock.
Aeka ran into the room having heard a crash. She looked at Tenchi and immediately blushed.
“Lord Tenchi, what brings you here today?” She then took in Sasami’s distressed look.
“Sasami what’s wrong, what’s the matter?” When Sasami didn’t answer, she looked at Tenchi.
“What’s wrong with her Tenchi?” Sasami then turned to Aeka and handed her the note. Tears welled up in Aeka’s eyes as she read.
‘No, this can’t be true, it must be one of Ryoko’s horrible jokes!’ Each word of the note ripped up all her hope, piece by piece, and threw it into what seemed to her to be the fires of Hell.
“Is this true Tenchi? Did you kiss that Sakuya girl?” Her voice was now barely above a whisper.
“Yes, it’s true Aeka, but you don’t understand.” He took her by the shoulders and looked into her eyes.
“It was only to see if I loved her Aeka. When I kissed her I felt nothing.” Aeka shook away his hands from her shoulders. She loved him and trusted him, but this had torn her into too many pieces. She felt the many tears stream down her cheeks, and turned away from him.
“Whatever makes you happy, Tenchi. I can not do that. I can not have you simply stand there and tear me into shreds over and over. I feel for Ryoko, Tenchi. She found out the worst possible way.” She then turned to face him, her eyes filled with love, hurt, but most of all rage. An incredible burning rage harnessed from many months of sadness and worry. “Not only do you break my heart, but to also break hers, and then to not even keep her one of her two last wishes of you!!! You did not tell me yourself!!! You are a coward, Tenchi Masaki!!! And I hope her other wish of you never comes!!!! I pray to the gods and goddesses that you will never be happy!!!!”
Aeka then turned and ran quickly out of the room, crying. Tenchi stood dumbfounded as guilt again wrenched at his heart, stealing his breath away. He then felt Sasami’s small arms embrace him in a hug. She then turned from him to go and comfort her sister.
Aeka was sobbing hard into her pillow. She had always loved Tenchi, but now she realized that she hadn’t loved him as much as she thought. That was one of the things that made her sob so hard. Ryoko’s words from the note ran through her head and she knew that those things came from her heart. As much as she hated it, she did not love Tenchi nearly as much as Ryoko. She cried herself to sleep.
Tenchi ran for Washu’s lab, if anyone knew where Ryoko was, she would. He entered and called out for Washu.
“ Little Washu!!!! Little Washu!!!!!” He called frantically.
“What?!?!?! What happened?!?!?!” Said a very confused and irritated Washu as she saw Tenchi.
“Little Washu, where is Ryoko???”
“I know where she is, but she told me not to tell anyone, especially you!!” Washu said, imitating Ryoko.
“She was extremely upset and cranky, crying every few minutes, and blowing her top the next. She said that she would leave you a note or something about a girl. What exactly did you do?” Tenchi handed the little genius the note. Washu’s eyes grew as large as saucers.
“Gods Tenchi, you better be glad she didn’t commit suicide!” An image of Ryoko stabbing herself in the stomach with her energy sword filled his head. He shook as he took back the note. “I get the feeling that this kiss didn’t exactly feel like you thought it would. Am I right?” Tenchi could only nod his head yes. Guilt came in great blows that seemed to rock the world he stood on. “I’ll tell you where she is Tenchi, but if you tell her I told you, you will meet a faith worse than Ryoko’s wrath.” He could only nod. “She has fled to Australia. She said that she would live along the coast of a thing called ‘The Great Barrier Reef.’ I don’t know what city she is in, specifically. But…” She types furiously on her transparent computer for a few moments. “If you take Ryo-ohki, she will be able to lead you to Ryoko.”
Taken out of his fit of guilt, Tenchi looked at Washu and a question popped into his head. “W-w-on’t p-p-pee-ople b-be s-s-uspicious of a g-g-iant sp-space sh-ship?” Tenchi stuttered.
“Ryo-ohki has a cloaking device that will not only make her invisible to radar, but invisible to the naked eye also. You should find Ryoko in no time. In the mean time,” her face turned grave and serious, “you must tell that Sakuya girl how you feel before she gets the wrong idea.” Tenchi nodded. “Good luck, Tenchi!”
Ryoko sat looking out at the sea.
‘No one ever told me it was this beautiful, not even Tenchi.’ Thinking of his name made her instantly sad.
Tenchi was now inside Ryo-ohki and they were currently pin-pointing Ryoko’s location. Tenchi sighed to himself. He closed his eyes from exhaustion. He quickly snapped his eyes open because every time he closed them, he could see the hurt look on Ryoko’s beautiful face. He sighed again as he remembered the talk he had had with Sakuya.
/knock, knock, knock/
“Coming!!” he heard her call through the door.
“Tenchi!!!” she exclaimed, “what a pleasant surprise!!”
“Hello Sakuya.” Tenchi said unenthusiastically, “Sakuya, we need to talk.”
“Of course Tenchi!! You know that you can talk to me anytime!!” She seemed to not notice his state of sadness.
“About the kiss we shared…”
“Oh, Tenchi,” she interrupted, “I love you too!”
“Sakuya, that’s not…”
“I knew we were meant to be! Just you and me. Together. Growing old and having many, many children!!” Sakuya’s eyes became dreamy and Tenchi shuddered at the thought of spending the rest of his life with her.
“No, Sakuya that’s not wha…”
“Then we could watch our grand-children grow up…”
“Wait Sakuya, I…”
“Oh Tenchi, what are we waiting for! Let’s go get married right now!!!” She said as she grabbed his arm. He kept his feet planted firmly, closed his eyes and pushed her away.
“SAKUYA LISTEN!!!” Tenchi shouted After regaining his composure he looked her in the eyes and said, “Sakuya, I DON’T love you. I felt absolutely nothing during or after that kiss. I don’t want to grow old with you, I don’t want to have children with you, and I most certainly don’t want to watch my grandchildren with you!!! I am completely in love with someone else, I don’t mean to hurt you, but you just don’t understand!! I love Ryoko, not you!!” Tenchi’s heart stopped. What did he just say? ‘I love Ryoko.’ And he did. He realized just then that he had loved her from the start. That he had mistaken his feelings for Ryoko as feelings for Sakuya. Tears welled up in her eyes.
“No.” She whispered, “It can’t be true,” She said as she broke down, sobbing. Before Tenchi could think twice, she stood up and faced him. “I’m sorry,” she spoke softly, “sorry you don’t love me. I hope you are never happy Tenchi!!!” she repeated the vengeful words of Aeka. But her words were so fake. They held no pure emotion behind them as Aeka’s had. She turned from him and ran sobbing out the door. He looked around her home in disgust. Pictures of him were everywhere. But it still seemed so fake, like she couldn’t feel. He soon left her apartment to get ready for his search for Ryoko.
He sighed at the way he had realized his love for Ryoko. Of all the times it could have donned on him, it had donned on him then.
Something didn’t seem right about Sakuya. It was like she didn’t feel or have emotions. It was like she could show emotions but they were all fake. The look of hurt on her face didn’t bother him as much as the looks of hurt and shock on Aeka and Sasami’s faces. He came out of his deep thoughts as Ryo-ohki meowed at him, telling him that they had found Ryoko. His eyes brightened and then faded again at the realization that she might not believe him. She had every right not to. After all, he had hurt her so badly. He had led her on and then shattered her heart. She was either going to rebuild her heart or discard it altogether, and he hoped she would rebuild it and that he would be right there with her, helping her through it all. He prayed with all his heart that it would work out, that she would believe him.
Ryo-ohki landed in a clearing and transformed into her cabbit form again. Tenchi told her to stay quiet and lead him to Ryoko. He saw her, lying on a secluded beach in a blue bikini.
‘Gods she’s beautiful.’
He approached her and her sharp ears picked up the sound of his foot-steps. Forming an energy sword in her hand, she waited until he was closer. She turned quickly in a fighting stance ready to attack. When she saw Tenchi, her eyes welled up with tears, her knees went weak, and she released her energy sword.
“Tenchi.” She whispered as she averted her eyes downward. He went forward and took her into a tight and loving embrace. Timidly he put his lips next to her ear and whispered those four simple words that rocked her world.
“I love you, Ryoko.” She froze. Would he toy with her this way? Or was she dreaming. She looked up and into his eyes to find pure love radiating from them.
“What about the girl, Sakuya?” At mention of Sakuya’s name, Ryoko began to break down again until he tilted her chin up to his face and looked into her eyes.
“I thought that I loved her, but when I kissed her, I felt nothing. Nothing at all. I soon realized that I had mistaken my love for you as love for her. But now I that I love you and only you, Ryoko. You are the one who is meant for me.” With those words he leaned down and captured her lips with his own in a kiss of pure passion and love. They stood kissing for an eternity all their own. They stood oblivious to the world around them. When the kiss was broken, Ryoko looked into Tenchi’s eyes and said the word’s she had so badly wanted to tell him in person.
“I love you too, Tenchi Masaki. You are my one and only. You are the one who will always have my undying love and the one who will always have my trust. You are my life, and I will always love you.”
“And I will always love you, Ryoko.” To his surprise, she giggled. He was a little unnerved, I mean after professing their love to each other and all, would a normal person giggle? But he had to remind himself she was not normal, no, she was Ryoko. He smiled at the thought and asked,
“What’s so funny.”
“We sound like that old American song, Tenchi.” He gave her a quizzical look.
“What song?”
“Listen.” She said as she heard some music playing in the distance. Then he heard it.
If I should stay I would only be in your way.
So I'll go but I know I'll think of you
Every step of the way.
And I will always love you. I will always love you.
You my darling you
Bittersweet memories, That is all I'm taking with me.
So goodbye, please don't cry.
We both know I'm not what you, you need.
And I will always love you.
I will always love you
I hope life treats you kind
And I hope you have All you've dreamed of.
And I wish for you joy And happiness.
But above all this, I wish you love.
And I will always love you.
I will always love you.
I, I will always love you.
You, darling I love you.
I'll always, I'll always love
“You see Tenchi, It reminds me of how I felt before and how I feel now. And, Tenchi, I will always love you.” She said the last few words in a sing- song voice that matched the tune of the song.
“And I will always love you Ryoko, but for now, lets go home.”
“Yes Tenchi, lets.” And with that, they both boarded Ryo-ohki, and headed back to the Masaki residence.
“Uh…Tenchi.”
“Yes?”
“How will Aeka take it?” Tenchi thought for a minute and told her about when she had read the note and how bad she felt for Ryoko. Ryoko settled back into her seat with a smile on her lips.
Okay, okay, I know, the ending is pure sap and cheesyness, Aeka is out of character, and there isn’t enough Sakuya bashing. But don’t kill me, this was my first fic ever! I am thinking of writing a secqual and have an idea, but I’m not sure. Please R&R!!!
