Thought Research

Thought Pattern Research

Heather Markham

I have recently become interested in the process of thought and also in the way we dream/sleep and a possible correlation between the two. I have begun a little research amongst family and friends with a view to writing an essay, thesis or perhaps if I collect enough data I could actually write a book on the subject.

As far as I am aware at this stage there are many books on the subject of why we have to dream, the mechanics of it and dream interpretations but few on the subject of the manner in which we dream and how we perceive our dreams. Similarly there has been much research into the mechanics of the brain, how the brain works and the bearing on the mind's process due to lack of or over production of certain chemicals or enzymes within the brain, but there is little information available on the perception of thought in the ordinary person's mind. That is to say how the thought process is actualised or visualised within the mind. At this early stage of my investigation I come to the conclusion that the way we visualise and think is generally an inherited factor rather than it being linked to whether or not our brains are inclined towards the artistic, creative, mathematical or scientific mode. Most of us don't give much thought to `thought` and assume we all think similarly, but I have come to the conclusion that although we seem to slot into certain inherited groups, we are also as unique in our thought patterns, dreams and actualisation's and visualisations as are our finger prints.

The research I am doing has me ask a list of relevant brain/thought task questions. Please, if you are interested in furthering this fascinating subject matter/research could you be so kind as to answer the list of questions set out below. I know many of you don't have much time to yourselves so I do understand if you don't wish to participate in gathering this data, but I would be eternally grateful for any help given and I will post my eventual findings and conclusions on this site.

Questions -

4. when do you generally dream in your sleep period? (tick all that apply)
Near the beginning
Middle of sleep
Towards the end of sleep
Don't know
7. Which of the following senses do you have in your dreams? (tick all that apply)
Taste
Smell
Touch
Don't know
11. What do you consider yourself to be? (tick all that apply)
Creative
Artistic
Musical
Mathematical
Scientific
Other

And that is the end of the questionnaire. (Phew!)

Thank you for your co-operation and assistance. If you have any other relevant information then I would love to hear it. It would be useful also if you have children, to ask them the questions and see if they are similar to either you or their other parent's way of thinking. That would be of great help determining the hereditary factor.
