The place to be!

A Story

OK, well, I was bored one week, sat down, and started writing.

This is what I got.

Chapter 1

The two swords met with a great clash! The one sword belonged to a mighty warrior wearing

bright red armour holding a great blue shield, the other to a sly thief wearing dark brown

studded leather. The thief had easily parried the blow of the warrior, and leapt ( ???)

back. "Ha ha! I see we are evenly matched!" the thief smugly cried out. The warrior look

calmly at the thief... A little too calmly. The thief saw this, and started to get worried.

"You face death, yet are not afraid? Or are you too stupid to show your fear? I have killed

many in the past, and you shall be just another notch added to my blade!" The thief looked

at the warrior, trying to see what he was thinking, yet to no avail.

The warrior looked at the thief, then smiled, and spoke for the first time since the battle

had begun: "I have a job to do, and whilst you live, the job remains undone. Shall we finish

this? I tire of you." The thief gasped, then smiled. "We shall, but first...", and with a

sudden flick of the wrist, the thief sent a dagger flying towards the warriors legs!

The warrior saw the dagger coming, yet let it hit its mark. As the dagger penetrated his

flesh, the warrior could feel the poison begin to paralyze. "A ha! Now the battle is over! I

have won, and you have lost! Feel the wrath of the great Asmodai!" the thief yelled out.

The warrior smiled, and started to walk towards the thief. "WHAT?!", the thief cried out,

"Impossible! I poisoned that dagger myself! You should be dead! Hmmm, maybe my poison was

faulty... But this should finish you off!", and with that, the thief pulled out a crossbow,

and fired at the warriors head!

With a flash, the warriors hand shot up, and caught the bolt a few inches from his head.

"You fight with no honour, so you shall not feel the steel of my blade", the warrior said

coldly.

The thief gasped! He had had his crossbow especially designed for speed, and yet the warrior

had caught his bolt with his bare hands? How was that possible! First the poison not

working, then this? Something was definitely wrong! Yet he had said he would not use his

weapon... "How do you intend to kill me without that sword of yours? I sense that you are no

mage, so I guess we draw this to a close. I kill you know, and the battle ends. Agreed?"

The warrior smiled again. "I said I would not use my sword, that is true. I also agree that

this battle should end now. But there is one small part that I do not agree with..." and

with that, the warrior dropped the bolt, pulled the dagger from his leg, and threw it at the

thief.

With a look of shock upon his face, the thief felt the dagger enter his arm, and fell. He

was dead before he hit the floor...

Chapter 2

"So how did he die?" the small boy asked. "Surely one dagger to the arm would not kill a

man!" The story-teller smiled. "The dagger didn't kill the thief, the poison from the dagger

did." The boy looked at the man confused. "You tell strange stories mister!" The man

grinned. "I tell what I have seen to be true, and nothing more. Choose to believe me or not,

the choice is yours." The small boy looked into the man's eyes, and smiled. "Now that is one

story I wont believe. Have to go now mister, my mom is calling. By the way, nice robes!" and

with that, the boy got up and ran off.

"Scared another one away, have you?" a sly voice said. The man quickly turned around, saw

who was behind him, and smiled. "Just talking about you. It is a tavern, is it not?"

"Aah, Innidinn!" the great man said, "Which adventure were you recounting this time?"

The story-teller, Innidinn, grinned. "The one just past, with the thief. Another small

adventure, to be lost in time, with the rest. You know how it is..."

The great man smiled. "I do, I do... Your skills go unknown once again... But it's late now.

I think you should rest. I have something planned tomorrow that I think you'll like."

Innidinn smiled wildy. "Aah Theras! I don't know what I would do without you!"

With that, Innidinn quickly got up, picked up his staff, and bolted off.

Theras smiled. Without Innidinn, his life would have been over long ago. He shrugged, and

went off to the Inn to sleep.

Chapter 3

Innidinn woke up, and yawned. It had been a good sleep. He stretched, looked out at the sun,

and gasped! "I'm late!!!" he cried out, shot out of bed, threw on his robes, grabbed his

staff, and ran out of the Inn.

The streets were busy. There were merchants at every street corner trying to sell their

lowly trinkets, children running around, beggars begging, commoners going about their daily

business, and the occasional guard trying to keep order.

Innidinn sprinted down the street, turned left, and ran straight into a guard. The guard

stared at Innidinn suspiciously. "In a hurry are we? Stolen something important have we?"

Innidinn stared at the guard, afraid. "I.. I'm sorry Sir! I didn't mean it Sir! It will

never happen again Sir! I promise Sir!" The guard smiled. "Just don't let it happen again,

OK?" Innidinn quickly nodded, thanked the guard, and hurried off. Why did he always have to

be so clumsy? In his profession, clumsiness could mean the difference between life and

death... Well, not to him, but still! He was a sworn pacifist, and kept with it as much as

he could. Sure, there were one or two times when the presure got too great, but otherwise he

was totally against violence. That's why he had chosen his profession. He sighed again, and

hurried to the Tavern.

At the Tavern, Theras sighed. Innidinn was always late. He was a good man, yet his etiquette

could do with a little improvement. Suddenly, the door burst open, and in flew Innidinn,

panting. Theras smiled, and waved to him. Innidinn walked over to him, sat down, and smiled.

"Sorry I'm late! You said you have something planned for me?" asked Innidinn. Theras

grinned. Innidinn had the heart of a small child, so eager for new things, and always so

happy! "Yep! Follow me, and youll see. They both got up, and left.

After walking a bit, they arrived at their destination, and Innidinn gasped! "An Archery

contest! I heard about this! The greatest archers from all over the realm are coming to

participate! If I win, everyone will know me!"

Theras smiled. "Yip! But first things first, we need to get you a bow! We cant have an

Archer with no bow now, can we? Here, have a few silver. I saw a merchant around here

selling bows. Not the best quality I might add, but I'm sure you can do something about

that, cant you? Also, the outfit! An archer wearing bright yellow robes might look a bit

suspicious! Sure you can do something about that as well, cant you?"

Innidinn stared, eyes wide open. He took the silver from Theras, ran to the the closest

merchant, bought the first bow he saw (a bit cracked, he noticed), and hid behind a corner.

Seconds later, Theras saw him appear, wearing a dark green cloak, light brown leather

armour, and holding a magnificent longbow. He walked over to him and grinned. "I see your
Incognito spell is working well, although..." he said, and pointed at a slight bit of bright

yellow robe sticking out of his back. Innidinn gasped, closed his eyes, and concentrated.

The small piece of robe wavered, and suddenly vanished. "Better?" he asked cautiously.

"Perfect!" Theras smiled. "Good Luck in the contest!" Innidinn grinned, and ran off.

Chapter 4

The contest was huge. Innidinn was correct. There were competitors that had gathered from

all over the land, some to prove their skills, some just to see what they could do, and some

just simply spectating. It was a simple contest: Each competitor had one shot, and one small

target. The most accurate hit of the target was the winner.

It was Round One, and Innidinn was prepared. His opponent was a small Gnome with a crossbow,

the winds were strong, and the targets were set. The first shot belonged to the Gnome. He

aimed, steadied his hand, and fired.

As the bolt flew towards the target, the Gnome suddenly realised his mistake. He had not

accounted for the winds! The bolt missed the target by a few inches, and the Gnome cursed.

Innidinn smiled. It should not be to hard to beat the Gnome, and with an outright miss, he

only had to hit the target to win! He aimed his bow, pulled back the string with a show of

great effort, and let his arrow fly. As the spectators watched, the arrow flew towards the

target, yet as they all could see, would just miss it, and the match would be declared a

draw, with both competitors being knocked out. Innidinn closed his eyes, and muttered

something under his breath. As the crowd looked on, a small gust of wind blew Innidinn's

arrow slightly to the side, and the outside of the target was hit! After a moment of stunned

silence, the crowd stood up and cheered! Innidinn had won the round, and was allowed to move

onto round two!

With a look of disbelief Innidinn walked from his position and met Theras to the side.

Theras looked at Innidinn's face, and burst out laughing! "Nice shot there! Lucky bit of

wind that was, don't you think? And the face! Very convincing look!" Innidinn grinned. "I

have to put on a show for the audience, you know?" Theras smiled. He knew what had really

happened. He knew about the small gust of wind that Innidinn had conjured up to change the

course of his arrow. Innidinn had great power... More than he had ever let him know. Yet his

powers went by unappreciated. That was the reason that he had brought Innidinn to this

Archery contest: So that people saw him, and knew what he was capable of! Of course, they

just thought the events were pure luck, yet as long as they cheered, he knew Innidinn was

happy.

.....small elf with a longbow. The elf ran up to him, and smiled. "I saw what happened in

round one! Congratulations! I'm going to be your next competitor. Good luck in the next

round!", and with that, she ran off. Theras smiled at Innidinn, who grinned back at him. "I

don't need luck!" Innidinn said quickly, and ran off.

Round Two was a lot more tense. Most of the competitors had missed their targets in round

one, and there were just a handful of people left. Due to the quick progression of the

contest, there was now only one small target for both competitors. Innidinn had the first

shot this round. He walked up to the firing range, and looked to the side. Sure enough, far

to his left stood the elf. He looked at her and smiled. She was quite small, and the bow she

had was large. Surely the win in the first round was pure luck. He would go easy on her! He

looked at his target, took aim, muttered a quick spell, and fired.

THUNK!

His arrow had just missed the centre of the target, exactly as he had planned. It was a sure

win, he was convinced. He smiled to himself, and stepped down. As the elf passed him, she

whispered into his ear: "Watch this!" Confused, Innidinn turned around, and watched as she

walked up to the firing range, notched an arrow into her bow, pulled back the string, and

fired.

CRAAACK!

Innidinn stared, horrified! Her arrow had directly impacted onto his, split it into four

separate pieces, and was now nesting snugly inside his arrow, right behind the metal tip.

Both arrows had hit the exact same point! The round was a draw, so neither of them would

progress! Quickly, he spun around, and stared at the elf. "What was that for??" he asked her

angrily. She looked at him and smiled. "This is an Archery contest. Mages are not allowed,

for good reasons. I was just making the competition fair for the rest of the competitors."

He stared at her, confused. "But you eliminated yourself as well! Now neither of us will

win..." She nodded at his reply. "It is true I had to eliminate myself for the contest to

remain fair, yet in my eyes I see it as a fair trade. For truth and balance to come to this

land, there must be sacrifices." He looked at her, and nodded. He finally understood! It was

unfair to benefit from other peoples loss! If he was allowed to continue, he would have

dashed the hopes of the other competitors... He smiled, and offered his hand to her.

"Innidinn, " he said smiling. "Pleased to meet you." She looked at him and smiled. "Thank

you for understanding. My name is Shaela" and with that, accepted his hand.
