Redwood Bog 2007

Redwood Bog: History and Natural Heritage

On Sunday 19 August, Redwood Castle, Lorrha, will be hosting a day of events and activities based around Redwood Bog and its history, heritage, ecology, and impact on local settlement. A qualified Heritage Officer will lead a tour of the bog, in what should be an educational and enjoyable experience for families, students, nature lovers, and experienced hikers alike. The other half of the day will be spent in Redwood Castle, a lovingly restored Norman tower house, in which a personal guided tour will give visitors a sample of the local history through the ages. The weather will dictate if the bog tour will take place before or after lunch. You are invited to bring a picnic to enjoy in the castle grounds at lunchtime, and if the weather makes this undesirable, the castle’s ancient third floor dining room will be opened. In the event of bad weather, the tour of the bog shall be replaced by the creation and exhibition of an artificial bog inside the castle. The day begins at 11:00am, and should be concluded by approximately 3:30pm.
