Mojo Lemon
March 6, 2004 Scott Street Pub, Wausau, WI
Okay, this was one of those situations where I had no advance information on the band, and outside of a demo CD, neither did my buddy Dino. So I had NO idea what I was walking into at the Pub this night
Frankly, I was BLOWN AWAY by this surprisingly tight little four-piece from my July stomping grounds of the Chippewa Valley. From the very first note, they had the crowd in the palms of their hands with their mix of blues and rock.
They've been together for four years, and it shows. They are a seamless unit that just pumps out the jams! While each of these better than competent musicians took a turn in the spotlight, I cannot emphasize that they are a top-notch GROUP.
More importantly, they played with a passion that is lacking in a lot of area blues outfits.
Josh Entzminger on lead guitar (and some vocals) was a REAL surprise. This guy reminds me a LOT of Howard "Guitar" Luedtke in both his skill and his obvious joy he gets from just cutting loose. Terry Demars on bass handles the lion's share of the vocals, and is no slouch with his instrument, either. Will Chopper handles the organ/piano with a degree of skill not often found in a "regional act." Ken Hager's drums provide a solid foundation from which the others build on.
What I found amazing is that these guys not only rocked out, but sounded like they had much more than four people playing.
Dino said before they played that they were a "B+" act. Based on what I saw this night, I'd have to rank them a SOLID "A" and look forward to seeing them again.
I'm sure Dino shares my appreciation for them, and will work on getting them booked into the Pub again.
That is, if some smart record executive doesn't snatch them up and Scott Street can't afford them anymore.
They SO impressed me, after all, that their images leap-frogged over the rest of the backlog of bands waiting to be scanned and uploaded, if that says anything?
