GENERAL INFORMATION

SPACES

The Museum features a vast array of exhibition, public and display spaces which include:

• 1 contemporary and 1 large conference room (currently used as an art gallery)

• 12 memory boxes: 6 m x 6 m wide x 12 m in height

• 22 wall niches

• 17 display pillars as well as 6 half sized side pillars

• 1 large niche for permanent community narrative quilt

• 4 permanent exhibition spaces featuring a century of Red Location’s timeline history from 1900 to 2000

• 1 huge slanted big screen in foyer area as well as 10 adjacent slanted big screens for art displays

 

CONFERENCE FACILITIES

The Museum Conference Room can at ease accommodate 400 seated persons for conferences, corporate events, etc.

 

BOARDROOM

The Museum Boardroom can accommodate 14 seated persons comfortably.

 

MUSEUM RESTAURANT

The Museum houses a restaurant which will cater for a broad range of tastes and cuisines. The restaurant visitors would be treated with both indigenous African and other established dishes at reasonable prices.

 

MUSEUM SHOP

Our Museum shop will provide a market where local traders could exhibit their indigenous arts and crafts creations. Visitors to the shop will be treated to a variety of items ranging from cultural depictions of the Rainbow Nation and precious mementos.

 

AUDITORIUM

The Museum Auditorium can seat 120 persons per session at ease.

 

OUTDOOR FACILITIES

The eastern side of the Museum is a habitable wall with 12 arts & crafts stalls/spaces with build-in seating, a play area for children and 8 parking spaces for taxis. The front entrance comprises of a giganticporch covered by a timber pergola, which marks the entrance of thebuilding and also serves as a public gathering space. Directly on the opposite side is a large drop-off/pick up point with 3 large seats forcommunity/museum commuters. A grassed outside gathering space which has a huge screen for outdoor cinema is also available - this area can comfortably seat up to 7,000 people.

Lower/Junior Primary learners - free

Secondary learners - R3.00

Tertiary students - R5.00

Adults - R10.00

Pensioners - free

Otherwise-abled - R5.00

Special admission - free

Groups - until further notice Entry Ticket - R10.00

Conditional guidelines apply and entail free admission to pensioners and unemployed locals on Wednesdays between 12h30 - 16h30. Admission will be on first come first served basis and if the days special admission number has reached maximum capacity, or if the day falls on a public holiday, free admission may be denied.
