VOB: How's everyone doing?
Scarlet's Remains: Good. Thank you.
VOB: Where are you from? Who's in the Band? What does each member do?
SR:We are based out of Los Angeles. Personnel: Tony Havoc- drums, Johann Schumann- bass, Brian Elizondo- guitar, eveghost- vocals
VOB: How long have you been together? What other bands did each of you play in?
SR: In this incarnation, we have been together for about 8 months. Tony played in Fear Cult and Horror Show. Johann played in The Web, Christian Death, Shadow Project, and Mephisto Walz. Brian played in Sludgeclot, Terminal 69, and Resulles.
VOB: How did the band form?
SR: Johann and Tony have known each other for years and always wanted to form a band together. Brian and Tony met while working together in a music store. Later, eveghost replied to an ad on Myspace.com about Scarlet's Remains seeking a singer.
VOB: How many releases do you have?
SR: This is our debut release.
VOB: Were the recordings done digital or analog? (if comps what programs)
SR: The recordings were mostly analog although there was some combination of both fields.
VOB: What inspired your band name?
SR: The remnants of a failed union.
VOB: What do your lyrics express? Any particular theme or just whatever comes to mind?
People should write about what really matters in their world. Anything
else just sounds contrived.
SR: eveghost likes to write about everything from political concerns and societal ailments to relationships. Anything that sparks passion in us, is likely to turn into subject matter for a song.
VOB: Being Deathrock, how do you feel about bands that would express their religious or political beliefs in music?
SR: Are we deathrock? Our lyrics contain traces of spiritual belief while not being blatantly about any particular leanings spiritual or otherwise. Of course we're also highly guilty of voicing a political viewpoint in our lyrics. People should write about what really matters in their world. Anything else just sounds contrived.
VOB: Do you think that people beyond California or New York know what Deathrock is? As a majority.
SR: There are always small pockets of people throughout the US who know what it's about. And there will always be people who just like good music regardless of its "genre".
VOB: Any tours planned?
SR: We hope to tour in fall.
VOB: Do you prefer live or studio recording?
SR: Thus far we've spent most of our efforts on endeavors in the studio and releasing a really good album. For each member, their reasoning might be different and there are certainly aspects of both that we like, however there is nothing quite like an audience response. Live shows have so much more energy.
VOB: How did you do the recording process live or 1 on 1?
SR: We recorded the tracks live and then patched in the occasional overdubs. But most of what you're hearing is live and pretty representative of what you can expect from a Scarlet's Remains live show.
VOB: Please tell us about your cd coming out. Release Dates, Production, Feelings/Comments.
SR: The CD is self-titled. It's our debut. Thus far it will only be
available in the US as an import, with the
official release coming in
June 2005. It was produced by Bari-Bari (Christian Death, Mephisto
Walz). We're very proud of the release and we're pleased with the warm
reception that it's received thus far.
VOB: Any Labels looking at you?
SR: We've received offers, however we chose to work with Dark Dimensions,
who are based out of Germany. www.darkdimensions.de for more info.
VOB: Why do you do what you do in music?
SR: Because it comes naturally, it's like breathing for us. We are all
passionate about what we do, almost to a fault at times.
