The purpose of this organization is to preserve the culture of the ancient Celts through education and participation. This organization also serves as a social group for those seeking to apply qualities of ancient Celtic culture to their modern lives. It is our objective to bring together people and organizations for research, reconstruction, and re-enactment purposes.
Our purpose is to unbiasly research factual Celtic history through credible sources such as historians and scientists, not through false popular beliefs, political agendas, or neo-religious ideas. We also feel that our ancestors had a good idea about what was important in life: family, intellegence, skill, bravery, honesty, health, appearance, etc., and we agree that life should be filled and prioritized with those very things.
As stated above, our main purpose is educuation. After that comes our specific goals, the physical things we'd like to accomplish. Like many other Celtic-focused organizations and groups, we would also like to establish a learning centre where people of all ages can come to learn and live like the Celts once did. We encourage historical study, the learning of any Celtic language, Celtic customs & traditions, art & folk art, conservation, and self sustainment.
We are a group based out of New England that focuses on culture and religion as the two go hand in hand in the ancient world. Many of us know about and are attracted to what we think to be Celtic culture- knotwork, Guinness, and claddaghs. But these items are not the origional symbols of Celtic society. They are later additions to a culture that had began to fade into the mists many centuries prior. Celtic culture today is something different from what it used to be. The Red Branch Society is mainly concerned with the original culture of Celts, both the grim and the beautiful components, not neccessarily what is considered "Celtic" today. In addition to culture, we focus on the spiritual beliefs of our ancestors. The Celtic Age often attracts Celtic pagans who are spiritually compatable with time frame we examine. Thusly, the Red Branch Society is predominantly a pagan group, however, non-pagans are more than welcome to participate. However, we can only accept the assistance of those who are at least tolerable of ancient pagan customs and will not interfere with research because of personal religious reservations.
