Caring for women in labor

Why Doula's? Dad's Don't Feel Left Out!

For centuries women have attended to other women bringing comfort, and encouragement. Women from every culture would surround themselves with other women. A comforting touch with oils, a special herb.. they would facilitate different positions and methods to help the laboring woman have the baby safely.

Why now?

Now is when doula's are needed the most. C-section rates are sky rocketing all over the US. Here in Nevada the rate is nearly 30%, with an epidural rate of 97% in Las Vegas. A doula can help you can make it through the pain and reduce the risk to your little one. Childbirth doesn't need to be a fearful or stressful event. It can be for a mother an empowering rite of passage that brings out the inner strength she possesses.

Doulas still bring comfort, and encouragement to laboring women. Many women just don't know of the marvelous work of the modern doula! Every women can benefit from a doula.

Dad's Don't Feel Left Out!

Doula's are helpful to husbands. We don't take over, or leave you out, Dad's! This is your birth, too! We show you what to do, and allow you to have breaks. When I was giving birth my husband Lane was confused on how to best comfort me or help; aside from "telling me to breathe." My doulas coached him on how to massage me, what things to say or not say and helped him feel more comfortable through the birth.

Doula's often bring comfort using: massage, essential oils, pressure and visualization. Alternating positions, the use of a birth ball, and help with focusing.

Doula's also come with knowledge of labor and will be your advocate if in a hospital setting. We will work on your birth plan, so the doctors, nurses and hospital know what you want for this very special event.  You always have a choice.

Doula's donot perform clinical tasks such as; taking blood, blood pressure, fetal monitoring, etc.
