We rented a cottage in Great Salkeld for a week (cheaper than Ambleside). Here are some of the snaps we took:

Left: Mannington House, our holiday cottage. Right: Katherine and Rachel throwing pots at Wetheriggs

Left: Pavey Ark from Harrison Stickle. Right: Husband and daughters, heroes all, sat atop Harrison Stickle, having just scrambled up Jack's rake on Pavey Ark.
This is Long Meg and her daughters, druid circle just outside Little Salkeld. Long Meg is the tall one at the back, though I don't know why it's called Meg as it's obviously male! The druid circle is pretty impressive, and I joined two photos together to give some impression of its size.
This photo and the one below are of Hadrian's Wall, north of Vindolanda (carry on past the Vindolanda site entrance, then cross the main road and on up the hill until you reach the sign warning you that coaches are turning - it's got no brown tourist sign as there is no money in it for anyone - except when the car park machine is working). The water is called Crag Lough.

More photos to come.
