ARTICLE IN THE MANDARIN NEWSLINE - APRIL 2007 ISSUE Don't Want to Board Your Pet? Try a Pet Sitter! Meet Rita Dower, owner of 5 Star Pet and House Sitting Service. She presently lives in Mandarin, having moved from Hilton Head Island, South Carolina two years ago. After retiring from Hilton Head Medical Center, she started her own business caring for the elderly. Most of her clients had pets; therefore, she cared for them too and loved every minute of it. She then started 5 Star Pet and House Sitting Service last year after much encouragement from friends and family. Having raised three sons, Dower always had dogs, cats, birds, fish, gerbils, hamsters, guinea pigs or turtles in her home at any one time. She currently owns a 10.5 year old Black Lab and a 15 month old Pomeranian pup and recently cared for an English Springer Spaniel that lived with her for three months while her owner was travelling. Pet Sitting is an excellent alternative to boarding in a kennel. Dower makes daily visits to your home to play with, exercise, care for and love your pet or can even stay overnight. When you return you will find a daily detailed report of her visis with your pet(s). House Sitting services while caring for your pet(s) include bringing in the mail, newspapers and packages, alternating blinds, drapes or curtains and watering your indoor plants. Dower is Bonded and Insured and is in the certification process for Pet First Aid and CPR. Dower has cared for as many as 10 cats and dogs all in one house. "That was a chore in itself remembering each one's name and of course they all had different food and treats to eat." Dower shares, "I love animals and I think it shows in my caring for them." |

Pet Sitter, House Tender, Friend - Article Senior Citizens Guide
Have you ever wanted to go on vacation, but dreaded the thought of how your pet would be cared for while you are away? Ever wanted to stay late at a special dinner, but you had to get home to take care of your pet? Do you feel bad taking your pet to a kennel? Want to go away and want your plants taken care of? There is another option available that you may not be aware of: Pet and House Sitters!
A Pet Sitter can easily be asked to visit 2 - 3 times per day while their owners are gone. Each visit lasts half an hour to an hour, depending on the owner’s preferences. Provide overnight visits, keeping animals company—and keeping the house occupied.
Lunchtime visit each day, so their pets can get fresh air, a potty break, and some playtime.
Daily visits can consist of taking animals for a walk, ferrying them to veterinary appointments, feeding them, picking up the yard, cleaning out the litter box, play, or just spending time communing, curled up in the family room.
Pet Sitters can also prepare special food for your pet, fluffing blankets for the animals’ sleeping areas, and filling outside bird feeders, not only to keep birds well fed, but to give the indoor cats something to watch all day, too.
Pet Sitters are also House Sitters giving you that secure feeling for your property. This means turning the lights on and off, the trash put out at the curb, plants watered, and mail and newspapers brought in promptly.
How do you find a good Pet Sitter?
Word of mouth from friends and neighbors is a powerful recommendation.
Groomers & Veterinarians often have information they’re happy to share.
Pet Sitters who will come to you may cost a little more, but you must take into account their travel time, the benefit of your pet being cared for in familiar surroundings, and the fact that you’re receiving a very personalized service.
After settling on a prospective candidate, have them come to your home several days before you are planning to go away. Get to know your Pet Sitter, and above all else, note how they interact with your pets.
Our Pets provide us with unconditional love, and for that reason alone, we want the best for them.
Consider 5 STAR PET AND HOUSE SITTING SERVICE the next time you travel or simply want someone to stop in and visit your best friend!
