Everyone feels caged some times. For some, this is a feeling of being trapped and unable to belong or fit in, for others it is the undying pulse that constantly whispers "you are alone" in the night, while they contemplate the very meaning of their existence. Then, sadly, for some there are the physical bars. Yet, regardless of the situation, there is an escape... sometimes it happens on accident, other times you must fight with every ounce of strength you have, but you can achieve it! There is, and always will be, hope! Below are just a few examples of such events. To read about my published novel, Predator Turned Prey please visit this website.

The fact of the matter is simple... there is a great deal of suffering in the world. There is also the overcoming of it, as Helen Keller has told us. "The world is full of suffering, it is also full of overcoming it."
Aldous Huxley once declared, "At least two thirds of our miseries spring from human stupidity, human malice and those great motivators and justifiers of malice and stupidity." This is a deep, dark "secret" that hides in plain sight, yet it can be stopped with the right actions. If a single individual starts walking in the right direction, they leave their footsteps behind. These footsteps are seen by others, and more still. They all will not follow, that is true. Many people thrive on causing suffering, others feel little else than joy or justification when they cause pain, and there are those who simply do not see how their actions will benefit anyone else, but someone will follow. That one person leaves another set of footsteps for the process to begin anew, except this time those who need more evidence that it is worthy to follow see that the first individual is no longer traveling alone, and many of them will then follow. It is a momentum that can begin with a single individual. A single person who may walk alone for ages without seeing another soul. This must be an individual with enough love and strength in their heart, that despite all the bad the have witnessed or even experienced, they know, like Anne Frank knew, that there are still good people in the world. This person must be willing to continue on through the hail and rain, and all the misery it brings, but keep going even if it seems easier to stop. They must ignore the slings and arrows and focus only on the bright light that holds the joys and happiness that is waiting at the end of the path... because if they are not, then they will stop, wander off, and their cause may as well or if it continues they will not know of it... but it is the strong individuals who have already set in stone their decision to cast aside the suffering in this world, to show that there is hope, and to take on the task of bringing help, and joy that will eventually look back... and realize they've been followed all along, and are leading the way for those who might never have found the path alone.
I have chosen that path, and I know there are millions who follow. Millions of people who see segregation as a crime, who see child predators as the scum of the earth, who see no need to cause pain to anyone not causing physical harm, and who seek to better the world in any way they can. Millions of people who want to learn more, millions who want to see a smile on a strangers face, and millions who believe, as I believe, that there is more to this world than any of us know, and that no matter how alone you feel... you aren't. Someone is there, but you may not see them, or perhaps you simply need to close your eyes, and take that first step to see what fate has in store for you.
I escaped a life of physical, emotional and sexual abuse when I was just twelve by writing poetry... granted, it took another year still before I was physically set free, I used my poetry to gain that freedom. It was published in many local and national sources, perhaps a new international, but nothing astonishing to me. Not until I wrote a poem about Hunter, the main character in Predator Turned Prey, my published novel that was accepted for publication when I was fifteen.
One short poem out of the many I had written about Hunter, yet it raised questions by a concerned woman, who was a student aid, that lead to my freedom The night approaches, the monsters come near The jaguar waits, tense with fear Swishing his tail, twitching his ear Wondering "Will I ever get out of here?"
This poem, as well as many others, were viewed by councilors and administrative staff at my Junior High School, and they decided amongst themselves that there was too much emotion in this poem... they quickly got to work obtaining my others and researched my past as well as my current situation. What they found lead them to call me in and call me out on why I flinched if someone touched me, why I got angry and screamed when my friends tickled me, why I had bruises and why I wasn't behaving like I should. In the end, they got the truth... and the police set me free, just a few months shy of my 14th birthday.
The taste of freedom, at first, was a frightening event. My mother, who had long ago divorced the guilty party and had no idea what was going on, was an emotional wreck, as was I. Forced therapy, court dates, and the endless mystery of knowing that father had always told us that if we ever did take him to court, he would win... he had a lawyer, we couldn't afford one, he had his whole family telling lies, and even accusing my mother as being the guilty one. Despite all the power my father had, despite the money he used on lawyers, and the lies he twisted, even getting a lawyer who was fishing buddies with the family court judge who then forced my mother to sit directly next to the man she had a restraining order against... despite everything, it was ruled that my father was a danger to us, and that no custody rights would ever be granted to him.
I spoke with many police officers and detectives about what had happened at my father's house. About how badly I had wished it to end, and that I had come to the conclusion that he wanted me dead, and if that was all he wanted it might be best to just do it for him. I spoke about how I used to have my dog stay in my room at night because she would bark and alert me when the monsters crept in at night, the monsters my father allowed to move in, and let sleep across the hall from his pre-teen daughters while he himself moved to the other end of the house. One officer told me it was likely he did this to gain false innocence. He was too far away, he could claim, to hear what was going on. I guess the crying would have kept him up if he had remained in the master bedroom. I found strength by telling my story to people who honestly cared. It turns out the monster who moved in had done this many, many times before, to both boys and girls, and they needed my testimony to try and put him away... even though the case dropped because the detective took on too many other cases and was attempting to fund it all himself, it simply showed me how much help the system needed.
A police officer during the court proceedings read a bit of my book (it was just 12 chapters at the time), and told me to keep going. "This," he said, "I can tell is what is keeping you alive. You were meant to write it, because there isn't anything else like this on the market. You can save millions of people with this. If you extend it, get it published, and get it into stores those... you call them monsters? They're going to be the ones shaking in fear, because you're leading the fight against them, and it is their potential victims who will be following you in the fight."
Since then, I have made it my mission to protect others from suffering from segregation, abuse, slavery and other such hardships. I write stories, poetry... and even now have 2 webcomics in the works! All focus on segregation and the hidden evils of society, without using scare tactics and simply facts. I use fantasy worlds and settings to show real life traumas in a setting fit for enjoyment as well as education! I make merchandise to help spread the word against slavery and have now started selling earrings and necklaces for that cause! Each year, a percent of the profits I make will go to A.L.E.R.T, Call and Respond, and Free The Slaves. This year, however, I hope add in SharedHope, as they are an amazing organization that provides a shelter for women and children without a time restraint! Growing up I learned that my father and his family could easily out-wait any protection agency because most of them had limits on how long you could remain there, but with Shared Hope, there is a real chance at actually being safe! What better cause could there be? I also work with the GSGems here in Arizona! A group of GirlScouts who fight to end trafficking! Please check the Human Trafficking Info page for more information on the GSGems, and to obtain their contact information! I do presentations with other groups, or alone. I do book signings and will gladly give free copies to libraries both school and public! You can find a vast and amazing assortment of motivational quotes here Wisdom Quotes
