Cutting through the snow
into light and contrast
shedding the darkness of winter
resurrected;
another season ending
in our long journey
orbiting, making sense
of space and time
but nothing
of the rest.
Cutting through the mythology
into realization
rejecting notions of material
marketed;
speaking of twilight
and images of nostalgia
stoking sentiment, changing
everywhere but here
ambling by, a tourist
of former times.
Sentiment brought me here
thoughtless
faceless
like so many times before…
pulling through alleys
navigating
through a haze of disjointed
aspirations
photographing
gothic churches at night
sneaking around
the foreign city
jet-lagged; out of synch –
wishing it was summer
of 1987
the humid, Roman night
makes me forget
it’s November.
