Rats In Need

A Small Rat Rescue.

What We Do

This website is always under construction, but basically I am just a 20 year old pre-vet college student who loves animals and has fallen in love with rats.  I have volunteered at shelters and I have worked in a vet's office as a vet tech.  I have started a rat rescue to try to help these loving animals.  I do take in rats that have not had much attention and I socialize them to make them wonderful pets for owners that will appreciate them.  My cages range in sizes from

I have been running my rescue for over 8 months now and I have rescued many rats including many pregnant females.  One day I walked into a petstore to find a pregnant female being hung by her tail and about to be fed to a fairly big snake.  I went up to the man and adopted the poor girl on the spot.  She had 15 babies and her and the babies have all found homes.  All very cute.  I am located in Orange, CT, but I do transport rats along my route where I travel 84 west to 17 west to around the Monticello, NY area, but other places to meet can be arranged.
Some people ask what I do with the rats once they get here...  Well they get their cages cleaned every other day (every day if needed).  They have lots of fun toys and things to keep them entertained.  They really like dirt boxes that I hide food in and they dig in it to find the goodies.  I do a 90% rat food and 10% extra goodies diet.  They get fed a high quality lab block, lots of treats, and fesh fruits/veggies.  Dinner on an average night consists of lab blocks, a seed quality rat food, broccoli, carrots, small pieces of cucumber, and freshly cooked pasta (they go nuts for pasta).  They come out and play and after a quarantine has been done and I have checked them out to make sure there is nothing medically wrong with them (with if there was I would take them to a Veterinarian, I've had a few come in with UTIs), I figure out which rats would be most compatible and I slowly introduce them and they come out and play together.  Every rat gets a lot of outside play time, I'll have to say around 3 hours out per rat.  Though rats really don't stay at the shelter very long.  I also have an adoption application that can be found on my adoptable rats page.  This is where adopters fill out the application and send it back to me.  There is also an adoption fee per rat.  This fee really does not cover my expenses for caring for them, but I just love helping these little animals.  The adoption fee is always negotiable to the right owner.
That is what I do :)...
Will you give one of my cute rats for adoption the loving home they deserve?
