Let Me Love You

Chapter One

“This isn’t right Jay should be here.” Gary said standing in the hallway of a hospital.

Gary LeVox, Jay DeMarcus, and Joe Don Rooney formed the hottest country band since 2000, Rascal Flatts. Jay and Gary are second cousins and Joe Don is their friend, but more like family. Gary was waiting for Jay and Joe Don to get to Grant hospital. Jay’s girlfriend, Isabella Hope, had been in a horrific car accident and she was still unconscious. A drunk driver had blind sided her. Belle was thrown from the driver seat and into a ditch. Three of her ribs were broken and she had a mild concussion. When Destiny Hill, Joe Don’s wife, called Belle and Belle didn’t answer she went looking for her. As soon as she found Belle Destiny called Gary because Joe Don and Jay weren’t answering their cell phones because they were in the studio. Four hours later Gary was in front of Isabella’s hospital room while Destiny was inside next to Belle. Gary had finally got a hold of Jay and Joe Don was trying to get Jay there as fast as possible. Gary had worked with Isabella back in Ohio before he move to Nashville. Belle moved to Nashville to be a bartender three years after Gary had moved to Nashville. Isabella and Gary continued their friendship through both of their transitions. Gary introduced Belle to Jay her first night there. It certainly wasn’t love at first site for Belle, but Jay slowly grew on her and she agreed to let him take her out on a date. They have been dating for a year now and Belle and Jay couldn’t look more in love. The guys were about to release their third album It Feels Like Today and enjoying their continued success. Destiny and Joe Don were newly weds as of two weeks before hand. Gary had been dating but nothing permanent had been coming up.

‘Thank god.’ Gary said as he met Jay half way down the hallway.

‘Man is she ok?” Jay asked not looking a bit frazzled.

‘She’s unconscious with a mild concussion and she has three broken ribs.” Gary said as Jay went in Belle’s room and switched places with Destiny.

Gary couldn’t help but wonder why his cousin wasn’t a little more freaked out. Gary knew that if Belle was his girlfriend he would be so worried and uncontrolled with fear that he would of rushed into her room with no questions asked. Maybe jay is just hiding most of his emotions Gary thought as Joe Don tapped him out of his thoughts.

“Hey man what’s going on? Will Belle be ok?” Joe Don asked as Gary and himself sat in the waiting room with Destiny. Only one person was aloud in Belle’s room.

‘Well a drunk driver blind sited Belle and knocked her out of her car and into a ditch. The cops caught up with him after his engine blew out down the road. They are arresting him on two charges. The first will be drinking and driving. The second will be for a hit and run. Bell’s health on the other hand isn’t as bad as it should have been, but don’t get me wrong she’s in critical condition. She has three broken ribs and a mild concussion.” Gary explained to Joe Don as Destiny grabbed Joe Don’s hand.

‘I have never seen any thing like it. She was just lying there face down in the ditch. It scared me to death.” Destiny said through her silent sobs.

‘Oh honey come here. Isabella’s going to be fine, she’s strong.” Joe Don said holding Destiny in his arms as Jay came walking back out of Belle’s room.

‘Well guys the doctor just informed me that they have no idea when Belle is going to wake up and if she’ll completely be herself again. We will just have to wait and see. I can’t stand to see Belle like that. ” Jay said taking a seat next to Gary.

No one had any idea what to say to Jay. He was just acting so weird. In talking Jay showed so little emotion. Grown men are stereotypically not suppose to show their emotions but this was on the verge of ridiculous.

“Jay I am so sorry. If you need any thing you let us know, ya hear?” Destiny said showing her southern accident just a bit.

“Guys I’m fine. It’s Belle that needs to be worried about.” Jay said farthing himself in to his distance.

“Ok man, well we should be heading home. Jay we’ll be back tomorrow. In the mean time you take care of yourself.” Joe Don said following Destiny to the elevator to go down to the main floor.

“Man how ya holding up?” Gary asked Jay after Joe Don and Destiny had left.

“ Gary I can’t even explain to you the emotions I’m experiencing right now.” Jay said running his hand through his jet black flawless hair.

“ Try me.” Gary said trying to get Jay to talk to him.

“ I don’t know what I’m going to do now.” Jay said with a deer in the head lights look on his face.

“ What do you mean?” Gary asked suddenly confused.

“I was going to… I was going to break it off tonight with Belle. Things aren’t working out. But now I can’t because she’s in the hospital. I can’t break up with her while she’s like this.” Jay said as he hit the back of his head on the wall behind his head.

“What? Jay this is crazy everything looked like it was going fine.” Gary replied amazed.

“ Gary we fight constantly at home. Out in public we have to restrain ourselves from killing each other. She’s my best friend and I love her, but we don’t like each other any more, she knows it.” Jay said making himself sick to his stomach to have those words fly out of his mouth.

“Jay you can’t pretend to love her either. If you know it’s tarring her apart like its ripping you to pieces you should talk to her when she wakes up. Not right after but soon or she’s going to hurt a lot more when you do tell her.’ Gary said not believing his cousin was in a troublesome relationship with Belle.

Gary’s own thoughts took a turn away from everything. Ever since Gary had first met Belle he knew she was special, but he also knew she would never go for a guy like him. He had to stop himself from thinking such thoughts about Belle when he knew in such a hard time Gary could be nothing more then a friend for Belle.

Snapping him out of his day dream Jay asked, “ What am I suppose to do? Gary I just can’t hurt her while she’s clinging for dear life in a hospital room.”

Gary was silent for a second then said, “ Well Jay you are going to hurt her no matter when or where you do it, but your right don’t do it now. It would tare her to pieces.”

Jay leaned back in disbelief as Gary went down the hallway to Isabella’s room. Her golden hair that once had been so long had to be cut shoulder length because clumps of it has been ripped out when she was thrown from the car. Her face was nothing but bruises and scrapes. Her side was bandaged so when she did wake up she could breath with out the agonizing pain of her ribs scraping together.

Gary sat down next to her and held her hand with such gentleness. He was afraid he would break her if he held her any tighter. His best friend was lying in a coma because some retard wanted to drink and drive. This wasn’t happening he told himself over and over again, but he still couldn’t get this image of Belle out of his head.

Chapter two

The next day Gary had to go back to the studio while jay was at the hospital with Isabella, alone. He took her hand and sighed. Jay’s feelings for Belle had once been so strong, but it seemed like it all was leaking away.

“Belle I need you to know that I do love you, but I also want what is best for the both of us. I don’t want to hurt you any more. I really don’t. Please forgive me.” Jay said getting up to leave.

He had no idea that Belle had heard every word he had said. She had woken up during the middle of it, and now she couldn’t stop the tears falling down her face like Niagara falls. Once she was positive he was gone she wiped at her eyes giving herself a head ache. Back in the hallway jay had bumped into Gary, who was coming to visit Belle.

‘Hey Gary do you think Belle can hear you when you’re talking to her in there?” Jay asked suddenly nervous.

“Yes, why?” Gary inquired wondering what Jay had done.

‘Oh no reason.” Jay replied as the elevator doors closed off their conversation.

Gary went into Belles room only to find her sleeping. He sat down where Jay had been and just starred at her. She looked like an angel to him. How dare Jay even think of breaking her fragile heart. Even though he knew he couldn’t make Jay stay with some one he didn’t love. Gary had all these mixed emotions running through him. Jay had probably told her what he was feeling and now he’s afraid Belle heard him, Gary thought as he held Belle’s hand.

“Belle I know Jay probably came in here and said some things he doesn’t mean, but it’s not his fault he’s just a little wired and disconnected right now. He shouldn’t of said what he did because he knows the both of you aren’t ready to hear such things.” Gary started to say as he felt Belle squeeze his hand.

Gary jumped up in amazement and said, “ Oh my god Belle your awake!”

Isabella just nodded as tears brimmed her eyes once again.

‘Belle what’s wrong?” Gary asked as he sat back down fearing the worst.

“Gary, Jay did mean what he said. It’s best if we stayed apart, but it still hurts to hear him say the things he did.” Isabella said as Gary pulled her Into a hug being very careful of her ribs.

She felt safe and warm in his big strong arms. All she wanted to do was melt Into him. Their hug, to belle, lasted only a few seconds before the doctor came in to check up on Belle since she was awake. The doctor asked Gary to leave the room while he was giving the examination.

When the doctor came back into the hallway he told Gary this, “Well Ms. Hope gave us quite a scare but everything seems to be getting along fine. Her ribs should be healed by next week. On some medication and complete bed rest Ms. Hope should be able to go home tomorrow evening.”

‘Ok, thank you.’ Gary said rushing back into Belle’s room.

“Well it seems like I’m not broken.” Isabella said smiling.

“Would you like to know what happened?” Gary asked her.

“Yes I think I should know.’ belle said trying to smart off Gary just rolled his eyes.

“Well a drunk drive blind sited you and you were knocked from the car. You had a mild concussion and were out of it for two days. Now you have three broken ribs and it’s probably why your side hurts. They had to cut your hair to make it even, but everything else seems to be fine.” Gary said as the expression on her face turned to horrified.

“ Gary can you get me a mirror?” Belle asked as she reached to grab her hair.

“Yes darling.’ Gary said going to the bathroom to grab the hand mirror for Belle.

Belle snatched the mirror from Gary’s hands and looked sadly at her shoulder length hair.

“It’s just hair, it’ll grow back.’ Gary told her trying to make her feel better but it wasn’t working.

Isabella just kept grabbing at her hair like with each swift motion her hair would magically come back. She tried to hide the fact that she was crying but she couldn’t. Gary just held her until Belle felt like she couldn’t cry any more.

“I must seem stupid to cry over my hair, but I don’t like my hair short.” Belle said pulling away from Gary and wiping away her tears.

“No it’s not stupid, if I woke up one morning and I was bald I would die on the inside just the tiniest bit.” Gary said smiling as this made Belle laugh, “Now Belle the doctor said you could come home tomorrow if you accepted to be on full bed rest and heavy medication. I know you and Jay aren’t on such great terms so why don’t you stay with me?” Gary asked.

“ Some times you are too nice. Gary I couldn’t do that to you. I think Jay and I can put our differences aside until I get a place of my own.” Isabella replied looking deep into Gary’s sincere blue eyes.

“No I insist.” Gary demanded.

“ Gary you don’t need me sitting at your house taking up your time, really I’ll be fine.” Isabella said sternly.

“ Your great company and a wonderful friend. You won’t be taking up my time. We’ll just be enjoying it together.” Gary said smiling at how stubborn Belle was getting.

“Fine, but no more then I need to.’ Isabella said shaking her head at the same stubbornness she saw in Gary.

“Lets call Joe Don and Destiny to tell them your awake. Destiny was really worried about you.” Gary said whipping out his cell phone.

“Oh yes.” Belle said as Gary dialed their number.

Once Joe Don and destiny reached Isabella’s room she had fell back asleep from all the medication she was on.

“How is she?” Destiny asked anxious to see how her friend was.

“ Well everything looks fine. The doctor said her ribs should heal in about three weeks. In the mean time she goes home tomorrow. She’ll be staying with me because she has to be on bed rest and Jay and Belle are having some problems.” Gary explained to Destiny in the hallway.

“What do you mean they are having problems? She just woke up from a coma of two days.” Destiny pondered.

“ Well Jay apparently was talking to Isabella when he thought she was asleep and told her that things weren’t working out for the both of them, mostly himself. So they have broken up I guess. I don’t know what he said exactly but I do know that it hit her hard.” Gary said as Destiny shook her head in disbelief.

“Well I’m going to go on inside why don’t you go home and get some rest. I bet you’ve been here all day. Your so sweet.’ Destiny said kissing Gary’s cheek as she went into Belles hospital room.

Gary took off in his car towards his house but he decided he had some one to visit. His mind was racing with angry thoughts and words, but he knew if he said what he was really feeling Belle would know and that would hurt her so much.

Chapter three

Jay heard a knock at his door right as he sat down to relax with a cold beer. When he opened the door Gary was standing in front of him with a cold blank stare.

“Hey man come on in. You want a beer?’ Jay said as Gary stormed in.

“No jay I would love to talk to you though. What the hell were you thinking telling belle that you didn’t love her any more? She heard every word you said and now that she’s awake she’s crushed. Jay she loves you more then any thing and you just dumped all of this on her while she’s unconscious. Jay how could you?” Gary screamed as his face turned thirty different shades of red.

“ Stop it Gary. I didn’t do it to be vicious. Hey I love her too, just not like before. I had no idea she heard me or I would of waited. I didn’t mean to hurt her. It’s tarring me apart on the inside to know she heard everything I said. She must hate me, but really it was about time we stop pretending. You have no idea what our relationship was like so don’t come into my home and criticize me!” Jay yelled back putting Gary in his place.

“Well Jay I’m just going to let you know that tomorrow she’s coming home, but not to here. She’s going to live with me because she has to be on bed rest and I know that you two aren’t on the greatest of terms. I’m not saying you meant to hurt her, I know you loved her, but you did hurt her. You should go up there to talk to her.” Gary said more calmly then before.

“Gary I don’t know if I can. Since she’s staying with you maybe you want to take her things.” Jay said like Belle was a used doll he was giving away.

“Fine Jay I will.’ Gary said as he went up stairs to get her things and put them in his truck.

Back at Gary’s house Gary was putting Isabella’s things into his guest room when a photo album fell out of a box. He picked it up and studied it for a moment. It was Gary and Belle in front of their work back in Ohio. It brought confusion back into Gary’s heart. The way he felt for Belle was indescribable. All though he knew he could only be her bestest of friend in this situation he needed to know if things could progress later in time. Gary went back up to the hospital just to caught Joe Don and Destiny as they were leaving.

“Hey Gary she’s asleep so why don’t you come with us for lunch and let her sleep?” Joe Don offered, Gary reluctantly accepted.

Isabella had faked sleeping so the guys would leave. She needed to talk to Jay but she knew he had nothing good to say. Everything seemed to go perfect for only such a short time. Jay had been the one she wanted for so long. She thought she could never get over this and maybe a small piece of her didn’t want to get over this. She picked up the phone to call jay but dropped it when she saw some one standing in the door way of her hospital room.

Chapter four

“ Gary what are you doing here/” Isabella asked after he picked up the phone to hand her.

“What I’m not aloud to check up on my friend?” Gary asked lounging in a chair.

“Yes you are, but I thought you went with Joe don and Destiny.” Isabella said clenching the phone in her hand.

“I was getting the guestroom ready for you. When I came up here Joey said you were asleep but I knew you wouldn’t be.” Gary replied as Isabella’s face went from a smiley smirk to a frown.

“So I guess this is real. Jay really doesn’t love me any more.” Belle whispered as she began to cry.

It broke Gary’s heart to see his best friend like this, but he knew he couldn’t do anything but comfort her. Gary knew Belle had to learn when it was time to move on all by herself.

“Darling it’ll be ok. You’ll get over this in a flash you’ll see.” Gary said hugging her.

Belle scooted over so Gary would climb in next to her. They both fell asleep with Gary holding Belle in his arms. Gary woke up in a cold sweat and had to get up, away from Isabella. His dream was so real, so sweet, so scary. During this dream Gary and Belle were on the beach making love. He could feel her sticky body covering his as sweat beat off his forehead. Then all of a sudden she was took away from him. A car was heading straight for him when Belle jumped in the way. At her funeral Jay was laughing. It made Gary sick to his stomach.

Gary just couldn’t get the image out of his head. He rushed to the bathroom making himself sick. When he came back to Belle’s room she was awake.

‘Are you alright?” Belle asked worried about Gary.

‘Yeah I’m fine. I think I’m going to go get some coffee down in the cafeteria. Do you need any thing?” Gary replied stretching his body out by standing on his tippy toes and reaching for the ceiling.

“No, I don’t need any thing. I think Im just going to go back to sleep.” Isabella said closing her eyes.

Gary walked down to the cafeteria and sat down in a booth after he ordered his coffee. Before he began to sort out his dream from his nap with Belle Gary’s cell phone began to ring.

“Hey how is she?” Jay asked on the other line.

“What?” Gary asked baffled.

“Don’t play with games Gary I know you’re up there with Belle. How is she?” Jay replied.

“Oh she’s doing good, but that’s all I’m going to tell you. If you really wanted to know you would come down to the hospital and see her.’ Gary said as Jay hung up him.

Gary put his cell phone in his pocket and leaned back in his chair. As he ran his fingers through his hair he closed his eyes and visualized his dream again. He couldn’t believe he thought of Belle like that, so naughty. Always before Gary thought of Belle as an innocent angel, like a younger sister . She was Jay’s girl not his. Jay would come to his senses and go crawling back to her like he always does. Even if he did that this time was different, Isabella didn’t seem to want him back. Maybe an hour or so passed by before Gary finished his coffee and walked back up to Belle’s room. When he got there he found Belle leaning over the railing on her bed in horrific pain.

‘Gary it hurts!” Belle exclaimed as he rushed to her side.

‘Belle what is it? What’s wrong?” Gary asked her kneeling in front of her.

“My side it feels like it’s on fire.’ Belle said as Gary ran out into the hallway to get some help.

A nurse ran into Isabella’s room. With all the commotion that took place Gary was forced to stay out into the hallway. When he saw them wheel her into surgery that’s when he went berserk.

“What’s happening?” Gary asked franticly.

“well a piece of her broken rib has come lose and is cutting into an artery. If we don’t cut the piece of the rib out now she could internally bleed to death.” Her doctor informed Gary as he followed Belle into the surgery room. Gary tried to call Jay but Jay’s cell phone was turned off and he wasn’t answering his house phone. He couldn’t believe this was happening. Gary hit his head against the wall as he saw Jay coming down the hallway through the corner of his eye.

“ Hey man is Belle asleep?” Jay asked not knowing what had just happened.

“ Jay she’s in surgery it’s her ribs.” Gary said as Jay got wide eyed.

“Oh god. Will she be ok afterwards?” Jay asked with genuine concern.

“Jay I really don’t know.” Gary said when he saw Destiny coming out of the elevator.

“Hey guys, how is Isabella?” Destiny asked surprised to see Jay there.

“Well she’s in surgery right now. Her ribs aren’t healing like they should.” Jay answered her like he had been with Belle the whole time.

This made Gary mad and upset so he just walked into the waiting room fuming.

“What got into him?” Jay asked innocently.

“I don’t know I’ll go see.” Destiny replied as Joe Don met up with Jay.

Destiny slowly walked into the waiting room to find Gary sitting in a chair with his hand between his knees. She took a sat beside him and placed her cool hand on his neck.

After he looked up she asked him this, “ Hey cowboy what’s wrong?”

“Well Jay’s attitude for one. He acts like he’s an expert on everything. He hasn’t even been here more than five minutes and he answered your question about Belles health like it was nothing. He doesn’t even know what’s going on himself.” Gary said rubbing at his eyes with frustration.

Destiny took in Gary’s appearance before she spoke. His eyes were bolted with red veins of no sleep. There were bags under his eyes of low iron. He just wasn’t taking good care of himself which worried Destiny.

“ Look Gary I know you are worried about Belle but the doctors know what their doing they can take care of her. This situation with Jay and Belle will work out as soon as they talk, and they will only do that when they are ready for it. So why don’t you go home and get some sleep. It’s almost 6:30 P.M. and I know you have been here most of the day.” Destiny said rubbing his back.

Gary stood up and took a minute or two to think about it then he said, ’Fine but when Belle gets out of surgery be sure and tell me, please.”

“ Don’t worry I will, now go on home.” Destiny said with a playful smile to kind of cheer him up.

At home Gary went upstairs and threw off his clothes to take a long hot, steamy shower. The water rolling off his body felt like such great relief. His thoughts raced around in his head bouncing here, there, and everywhere. Belle was so beautiful, but she needed a friend more then any thing right. What about his dream what was that about? Gary was so confused. He knew what he had to do, but what his heart was telling him to do was some thing completely different.

Chapter five

When Gary got out of the shower he put on grey sweat pants and a red Ohio state shirt. Then he plopped down on the bed and shut his eyes. A good nap will do me some good, Gary thought as he drifted off to sleep. Once again his dreams veered off towards Isabella. She was wearing bikini. As she laid down Gary was behind her with the sun tan lotion. Gary ran his hands down Belles backside as she let out a soft moan. Belle turned around as Gary dropped the lotion and kissed her neck. Her low, soft moans were turning him on, and all he wanted to do was slam into her. She smiled up at him as she fussed with his belt. Just as the fun begun it came to a stop when Gary’s cell phone rang and woke him up.

“ Hello.’ Gary said in a groggy voice.

‘Hey Belle just got out of surgery. She wants to see you.” Joe Don informed him.

“Alright I’ll be right there.” Gary said yawning.

Back at the hospital Destiny and Joe Don were patiently waiting outside Belle’s room.

“I told you not to wake him up.” Destiny scolded Joe Don.

‘Well Belle asked to see him what was I suppose to say? No?’ Joe Don replied defending himself.

Destiny let out a sigh and let it go. Soon she saw Gary walking out of the elevator.

‘How is she?’ Gary asked running his fingers through his hair.

‘She said her side hurts, but the doctor said that would be normal for the next couple of days. Belle’s still able to go home tomorrow, but after a check up.” Joe Don replied.

“Ok.’ gary said smiling at Belle as he walked into her room.

“Hey cowboy.” Belle said forcing a smile on her face.

“Hey Belle how are you?” Gary asked leaning over he to kiss her forehead.

‘I feel like shit.” Isabella answered as her smile vanished into a frown.

“What is it?” Gary asked as her face white.

“Hey Bella.” Jay said as he walked in.

“Oh, it’s you. I’ll let you two have some time to talk.” Gary said walking out of the room.

Isabella and Jay starred at each other for awhile until Jay sat down next to Belle.

“Look Belle I would never hurt you on purpose. If I knew you were awake when I was talking I would of never said what I did. I’m so sorry.” Jay said with his puppy dog eyes fixated on the paint splattered tiles.

‘Jay I’m not mad at you. I knew the end of our relationship was coming soon, but it is just all way to much right now.” Isabella said taking her hand and graciously touching his cheek so he would look at her.

“ I know I should of waited.” Jay said lowly.

‘But we’re still close friends right?” Belle asked as her eyes twinkled at her eyes.

“Oh Belle yes.” Jay replied as Belle bust into tears.

Jay wrapped his arms around her and rocked her back and forth like she was a young girl again. Out in the waiting room Gary had fell asleep with his head against the wall. Destiny nudged him awake and told him to go home.

‘What about Belle?” Gary asked standing up.

‘Jay is with her. She’ll be fine, go home.” Destiny said shoving him towards the elevator.

Gary went home reluctantly. The guestroom was ready for Belle’s stay, and so was the fridge packed with all her favorite food. Since Gary could do nothing more to get ready for Isabella he went outside to the lake in his back yard. Sitting on the dock Gary just couldn’t help but think of Belle. Gary laid back on the dock and nodded off to sleep. In this dream Belle was sitting in Gary’s lap with her legs wrapped around his waist. She was running her fingers along his body as she unbuttoned his shirt. Right when Belles soft lips touched his skin Gary woke up with a fish in his face.

“What the/’ Gary asked standing up.

Kevin, Gary’s younger brother, was waving a fish in his face. Kevin had probably put the fish on Gary’s lips causing him to think Belle was kissing him.

“I’m down here for spring break remember?” Kevin asked as Gary sat up and Kevin helped him on his feet.

‘Oh god Kevin I totally forgot you were coming down here. Look Isabella was in a car accident this morning and she has been into surgery twice.” Gary said shocking Kevin.

“Oh my god. Is she ok?” Kevin asked as they walked in.

“ Well yeah for now. Her ribs are broken and she did have a mild concussion. She will be staying here starting tomorrow until she is all better.” Gary said sitting in the living with Kevin after they caught a beer.

“Why isn’t she staying with Jay?” Kevin asked sipping his beer.

‘He broke up with her this morning.” Gary said gulping down his beer.

“Look Kevin I’m sorry but I’m exhausted. You know where the basement is, go set up your stuff.” Gary said throwing his beer can away and heading up the stairs.

The next day Gary woke up early to go sign Isabella’s release papers. Belle was so excited to be finally getting out of the hospital even if she only stayed for one night. Once at Gary’s house Gary ordered Belle upstairs.

“Oh Gary you know what I would really like to do right now.’ Belle said grinning.

“What?” Gary asked.

“I really want to take a shower.” Belle said laughing as Gary’s facial expressions changed.

“Ahah ok here let me help you up.” Gary said as his thoughts certainly turned dirty.

Gary put her arm around his shoulders and walked her to the bathroom. He then helped her into the bathtub and gave her the shampoo and body wash. Gary went downstairs as Kevin came upstairs.

“Are you just now waking up?” Gary asked with a smirk on his face.

“Yes.” Kevin said taking a seat next to Gary on the couch.

“Well belle’s upstairs taking and shower. So do you want some breakfast?” Gary asked going into the kitchen.

“Sure, how about pancakes?” Kevin asked with hope.

“No got some cereal though.” Gary said laughing.

“Well it was worth a try.” Kevin said grabbing a bowl of fruit loops and sitting at the table.

Gary poured himself some orange juice and sat across from Kevin at the table.

“So how has mom been?” Gary asked.

“Well she’s good. She‘s been working hard lately, but that‘s what she does.” Kevin said taking in a spoon full of cereal.

“True.” Gary said as Isabella came walking down the stairs.

“hey I told you, you are suppose to be on strict bed rest.” Gary said jumping up.

“I just came down to for some company. It’s boring up there all alone.” Belle said waving to Kevin as he put his empty dish in the sink.

“Well I don’t know what to tell you.” Gary said trying to get Belle back up the stairs.

“I say you let me stay on the couch.” belle said with a smirk.

“That’s going to hurt your side, to be on a couch for so long.” Gary replied stalling.

“ Well how about I stay down here during the day, then you can help me upstairs during the night.” Isabella said going over to the couch.

“I guess I have no choose. There is no changing your mind once you have it made up.” Gary said rolling his eyes.

Isabelle laughed shoving off Gary’s snooty mood. During the day Gary was mostly in his studio, but he couldn’t work. All his thoughts were on Belle, but he knew he could never let her know. This was all so confusing. He had never felt this way towards Belle before. So why is he starting to now? Is it because he knows she’s single? Or is it because Jay is out of the picture?

Chapter six

Gary was woke up loud chatter downstairs. He slowly walked down the blue carpeted curved staircase. Bella was sitting on the couch with Kevin watching a video Kevin had taped at one of the guy’s concert.

“Well good morning sleeping beauty.” Belle said making room for him on the couch.

Gary wasn’t a real talker in the morning so he just nodded as he sat in between Kevin and Belle. Gary gently laid his head on Isabella’s shoulder. She pushed his hair back and felt his head.

“Aw you poor thing. You have a fever.” Belle said pressing her lips against his forehead.

“Oh well, I’m fine. Have you guys had breakfast?” Gary asked leaning back up.

“No but I’ll make us some.’ Kevin said getting up and walking to the kitchen.

After 10 or 20 minutes Kevin yelled into the kitchen that breakfast was ready. He had made eggs, toast, and some coffee. Gary helped Belle up and slowly walked her to the kitchen. Gary got them all orange juice and got Belle her medication. That day Kevin was out visiting some friends so for the rest of the day it was just going to be Belle and Gary, alone.

“Want to go out to the dock/” Gary asked after he cleaned up the kitchen.

‘Yes, I desperately want out of this house.” Belle said as she stood up.

Gary took her hand and lead her outside. They sat on the dock and watched the ripple of the water go in and out.

“I think I’ll be looking for a new house soon. I feel great now. My side feels like its healing just about right. So I wont be in your hair for long. How are you feeling now?” Isabella said trying to start a conversation.

‘Im glad to hear your feeling fine, and Belle your not in my hair I like having your company. Im fine I just had a little fever. I took some Advil that’ll keep it down for now.” Gary said letting out a sigh.

‘So tomorrow I think I’ll take a look at some houses. I talked with jay and he got me an appointment with a real estate agent.” Belle replied.

‘Ok.’ Gary said getting quite.

“What is it Gar bear?” Isabella asked.

‘Belle I… no just never mind I’m fine.” Gary replied afraid of telling Belle how he really felt. If she didn’t feel the same way things would be different and he liked the closeness they already shared so he shut his mouth as he stood up.

“Hey I have a good idea. Lets go to the park.” Isabella said as her eyes lightened up.

‘Well if you’re really up for it.” Gary said smiling at Belle.

Isabella just punched him in his arm and ran towards Gary’s yellow ford truck. Gary walked slowly behind her, and watched her be so happy and bubbly. Her hair was slightly growing back to its full length before the accident. It bounced up and down along her back as she ran away from Gary. She was so beautiful Gary thought as he jumped into the truck. No one was at the park when Gary and Isabella got there. The sun was shining and it was a hot day outside.

“So what are we doing here?” Gary asked.

“Why don’t we swing on the swings over there.?” belle asked running towards the swings blowing in the air.

‘Belle these are made for little kids.” Gary said smiling to himself as Isabella pumped her legs to make the swing move faster.

“Oh come on have some fun with me.” Belle said getting off the swing and pushing Gary towards a sing next to hers.

“This is crazy.” Gary said sitting on the swing and thinking of all the other kind of fun him and Belle could have.

“Your crazy.” Belle said sticking her tongue out at him as she got back on her swing.

Isabella got so high in her swing she just decided to jump off. She laughed as she got up and brushed her pants off. Gary could help but double over and laug hat how ridiculous he thought all of this was.

Going over to the bench Belle was sitting on Gary said, “You act like a little kid.”

“So it’s fun. Don’t tell me you have never wondered what it would be like to be a kid again.” Belle said smirking.

“Yes I have, but all I want is right here so no I wouldn’t want to go back to being a kid. Well since your in such a good mood lets go get some ice cream.” Gary said wrapping his arm around Belle’s shoulders.

At Rita’s ice cream parlor Gary got peach ice cream and Belle got a hot fudge sundae. They went out side and jumped into the bed of the truck. Belle sat across from Gary and took a plunge into her ice cream with her spoon.

“So where do you think you’ll want a house? Around here hopefully.” Gary asked taking a bite of his ice cream.

“Yes around here silly. Some where near the diner hopefully.” Belle said.

“Oh yeah who’s been working the diner while your gone?” Gary asked.

‘Oh one of my best employees. Her name is Daisy.” Belle replied as Gary’s cell phone started to ring.

Gary answered his cell phone and said, “ Hello.”

When he got off the phone he sort of laughed and smiled at the same time.

“Who was that?” Belle asked curiously.

“Oh it was Joe Don telling me he is going to be a daddy.” Gary said trying to hold in his laughter.

‘Aw how far along is Destiny?” Belle asked as Gary got a straight face on.

“Well Joe Don said about eight weeks, so two months.” Gary replied jumping out of the truck and throwing his cone away.

“Aw that is such great news.” Belle said doing the same.

Gary and Belle rode over to Destiny and Joe Dons house after going to the store and getting them a card and flowers for Destiny. Gary gently knocked on the door.

“Oh hey guys come on in.’ Joe Don said as he opened the door further and closed it when they came in.

“This is for you.” Gary said handing Joe Don the card.

“And these are for you.” Belle said handing the flowers to Destiny and hugging her.

“I’m so happy for you, congratulations.” Belle said releasing from their hug.

“Aw they’re beautiful, thank you.” Destiny said going over to hug Gary.

‘Yeah thanks guys. I see some one is feeling better.’ Joe don said hugging Isabella.

“Yeah I’m fine, glad to be up and walking about.” Belle replied.

‘That’s great, you guys want some thing to drink?” Joe Don asked setting the card on the mantle top.

‘No we just came by to tell you were happy for ya. Now were going get out of your hair and leave ya alone.” Gary said.

“Alright you guys take care. We’ll see ya soon.” Destiny said as they left.

The rest of the day Belle acted strange and Gary needed to know what it was.

“Belle what’s wrong? Ever since we found out Joe and Destiny were expecting you’ve been acting weird.” Gary said after they had, had dinner and Belle was cleaning up in silence.

“Gary you wouldn’t understand.” Belle said drying some dishes.

“ Oh come on, try me.” Gary said pulling Belle away from the dishes as she started to cry.

“Belle why are you crying? What’s wrong?” Gary asked sitting on the couch and holding her.

“Gary I have always wanted to be a mom, but now that Jay’s gone I don’t know when I’ll be able to find a man I want to start a family with. You have no idea how all my hopes and dreams leaned on Jay, and how he ripped away from the seams like it was nothing. I know I shouldn’t be like this towards one man so unsure of where he wants to be, but I cant help it.” Stopping long enough belle said this.

She buried her head into a silenced Gary. He had no idea what to say to cheer her up. He wanted to tell her he could be that guy, that he wanted to be that guy. He also knew she wouldn’t go for that. She would think he was crazy and run away. So he kept his mouth shut and rocked Belle back and forth as she slowly fell asleep in her tears.

Chapter seven

The next day Belle got up early with out waking up Gary and got ready to meet Jay at the real estate office. So when Gary woke up the house was silent. Gary took a shower, got dressed, and went downstairs. By the time Gary got down stairs Kevin was waking up.

“So I guess today is your last day here.” Gary said sitting next to Kevin.

“Yeah it is. You like her don’t you.” Kevin replied.

“What?” Gary questioned.

“You like belle and I don’t meant as a friend.” Kevin said.

“No.” Gary said getting red.

“Oh don’t lie. I see the way you like at her. I know what your thinking.” Kevin said laughing at Gary.

“So, I may like her but she’s nothing more then a friend.” Gary said sternly.

“Well why don’t you change that?” Kevin asked.

Gary left the room with out saying any thing. He went out to the dock to think. While he was out at the dock he didn’t notice the time flying by. Soon Belle had gotten home and was sitting next Gary on the dock.

‘So how’d your house hunting go?” Gary asked rubbing his eyes.

“It went good and bad. I found the perfect house, but I just cant afford it.” Belle said looking down at the water.

Gary took this chance to ask, “ Belle can I ask you some thing/”

‘Any thing cowboy.” Isabella said curious as to what Gary was going to say.

‘Belle you’ve been my friend forever, but lately I have been having these strong feelings for you. Belle I really like you, so would you stay with me and not buy a new house?” Gary replied as his hands started to shake with nervousness.

“I’m glad I’m not the only one.” Belle said taking Gary’s hands and smiling, “ And yes I would love to stay here.”

“Really?” Gary asked in shock, he just couldn’t believe it.

“Yes Gary I have been waiting for you to come around. When you came in to comfort me after Jay had gave me such bad news I got goose bumps all over. The way you made me feel is indescribable. It scared me because you are so hard to read. I never know what your thinking or feeling.” Belle said as Gary pulled her closer to him.

“Wow, well now you do know how I’m feeling.” Gary said as they both leaned in for a kiss.

After a few seconds they pulled away from such a beautiful kiss smiling. Belle laid her head on Gary’s shoulder as they watched the sun go down.

“Hey Gary time to go.” Kevin called outside.

“You want to go with me to drop Kevin off at the airport/” gary asked Belle.

“Sure.” Belle said as all three of them got in Gary’s truck.

At the airport Kevin said his goodbyes and told Gary how he knew Gary would hookup with Belle sooner or later. He went laughing as he got on the plane. When they got back to Gary’s house Gary had a message from Jay on his phone.

“I’m going to call Jay back it shouldn’t take long.” Gary said walking towards his studio.

“Hello.” Jay said answering the phone.

‘Hey I got your message, what’s up/” Gary replied.

“Oh well I called because since the new album is coming out this Friday we are scheduled for Good Morning America that day then our tour starts the next day in New Jersey.’ jay replied.

“Dang, ok. I’ll be ready by Friday.” Gary said hanging up the phone.

Gary walked into the kitchen and say Isabella drinking hot chocolate at the counter.

‘Hey Belle.” Gary said wrapping his arms around her.

‘Hey cowboy. What did Jay want?” Belle asked.

‘Well this Friday we perform on Good Morning America and then our tour starts the next day. You’ll be ok here alone right? I mean I’m sure you and Destiny will spend a lot of time together.” Gary said as Belle turned around to face him.

“Of course I’ll be fine. Duh, I dated Jay. I worry about you some times.” Belle said trying to be playful.

“ Well I say we have four days to do any thing we wanted.” Gary said as he kissed her neck.

‘That’s what you want, But Gary I’m just not ready for that.’ Isabella said as she backed away.

“Oh I’m sorry, I didn’t mean to make you fell uncomfortable.” Gary said backing off.

‘Well I didn’t say we could go cuddle on the couch.” Belle said taking Gary’s hand and slowly walking over to the couch.

* Joe Don and Destiny’s point of view*

Destiny had just gotten back from her first real doctor’s appointment. The doctor said everything looked fine and told her that she was about 3 months pregnant. Joe Don had fallen asleep on the couch when they got home. So destiny listened to his voice mails. There was one from his mom telling him how happy she was and to call her back. Then the second one was from Rascal Flatts tour manager saying Joe Don was to be ready late Thursday night because Friday morning they will be performing on Good Morning America and then their tour starts the next day in New Jersey. Destiny had forgotten all about their 6 month tour. Destiny didn’t want to worry about so she just laid down beside Joe Don and fell asleep. When she woke up she was alone. Destiny got up and went straight to the bathroom. Joe Don heard her and waited outside the bathroom door.

When she got out he asked, “How you feeling baby?”

“This morning sickness isn’t just for the morning and it’s a bitch.” Destiny said going to the kitchen to get a bottle of water of the fridge.

“Aw Im sorry honey.” Joe Don said smiling.

“What are you so happy about?” Destiny asked like Joe Don was a nut.

“I’m just happy. This is my baby two right?” Joe Don asked trying not to laugh.

Destiny laughed out loud and flicked some water on Joe Don.

*Gary and Belle’s viewpoints*

Gary and Isabella had fallen asleep and would of stayed asleep, but the phone rang. Gary got up to answer it. When he got off the phone his face was ghost white and he started to shake with uncontrollable sobs.

Chapter 8

“What’s wrong Gary/” Belle asked getting up and taking Gary in her arms.

Gary went to answer her but his knees gave out on him and he fell to the floor. Belle had no idea what was going on so she got up and called Joe Don.

“Hey Belle what’s going on?” Joe Don asked hearing muffled cries in the background.

“Joe Don come quick it’s Gary, I don’t have time to explain.’ Isabella said in a panicked toe as she hung up the phone.

Joe Don raced to Gary’s house and ran through the open front door. Gary was now in a fetal position. Joe Don had no idea what to do. So he softly talked to Gary until Gary sat up with a blank expression on his face.

“Man what happened? Who called you?” Joe Don asked as Gary stumbled to his feet and motioned for Joe Don to follow him into his studio.

‘Gary what’s going on?’ Joe Don asked as Gary stopped shaking.

‘That was my mom on the phone. Kevin’s plane crashed right outside of Columbus. He didn’t make it.” Gary said choking on the last few words.

“Oh god, Gary I’m so sorry. If there’s any you need let us know.” Joe Don said not knowing if he should give Gary a hug or not.

“ Thanks, but go home. I need to be alone.” Gary said going to the front door with Joe Don.

After Joe Don left Gary went straight to his studio and slammed the door. Leaving Belle with unanswered questions and alone. Around midnight Gary finally came out of the studio only to find Belle asleep on the couch. She had waited for him all night long. This made Gary hate himself even more then he already did, blaming himself for Kevin’s death. All he could think is that if Kevin wouldn’t of been out to see him then Kevin wouldn’t of been on that plane. He picked her up and carried her to his bedroom. Then he laid down beside her and tried to close his eyes, but all he saw was Kevins face. A few minutes later Isabella started to stir and woke up. Belle starred into Gary’s red puffy eyes and kissed his forehead. She scooted close to him and buried her head into his chest.

“Belle Kevin’s plane crashed, he died.” Gary said pulling away.

‘Oh Gary I’m so sorry. Is there anything I can do for you?” Isabella asked.

“No.” Gary said pulling away from Belle, “Belle I’m going to not act like my self, but I want you to understand its not you. Please don’t get mad at me even when you probably should.”

Belle didn’t know what to say as tears flooded Gary’s face. So she just took him in her arms and put her fingers through his hair as she repeated “Shhhh” over and over again.

The next morning Isabella woke up and Gary was gone. She walked downstairs and thought maybe he would leave a note, but there was nothing. He had just gotten up and left. She sure hoped Gary was going to be ok. She knew he was so upset, but she didn’t want him doing any thing stupid either. Soon hours were passing by and Isabella was getting extremely nervous. She checked her cell phone and the house phone but he hadn’t called, so she had decided to call him.

“Hey Belle I cant talk right now I’m about to leave my mom’s house.” Gary said in a ruff voice.

“Oh ok well I’ll have lunch ready for you then.” Belle said.

“No Belle I’m not coming home tonight so don’t wait up for me.’ Gary replied.

“Oh ok.” Belle said disappointed as Gary hung up.

Over the next week or so Gary acted funny around Belle and was home less then three times a week. She was worried about him and needed to know where he was going so she followed him out one night, but she was very discreet so he wouldn’t know she was following him. He pulled into a bar and got out of his car. Belle wasn’t that surprised as she walked in 5 minutes after him. He was sitting at the bar and already had a beer in his hands. Belle guessed that he had been a regular for the last couple weeks. As the minutes passed Gary got more and more to drink. By the end of the night he was passed out in some booth. When the bartender went to lock up he shook Gary and kicked him out. Belle watched this from the car.

“Man if you keep sleeping in your car, in the parking lot I’ll have to have you towed.’ the bartender said as he took off in his hot rod.

Belle couldn’t believe what she was seeing. Before Gary started fumbling for his door knob Isabella rushed over to him and took his hand.

“Belle get off me! I don’t need your help!” Gary yelled pushing Belle away.

‘Well Gary I was going to take you home ya know so you didn’t have to sleep in your car.” Belle replied trying not to get angry.

“I don’t want to go home. I don’t ever want to set foot in that basement again.” Gary said as his eyes filled up with tears and he threw the beer bottle in his hand at the wall.

As the glass shattered Belle was putting the pieces together in her head. He didn’t want to go home because that was the last place Gary seen |Kevin. Belle didn’t know what Gary was going through, but she wanted to help him. He finally stop resisting and let her take him home. In the morning belle planned a trip for Gary. So he could go somewhere and learn how to morn for someone without going over the edge.

Chapter 9

Gary woke up with a splitting headache.

“Belle do you have any Advil?” Gary asked Belle who was sitting at the kitchen table shutting off her laptop.

“Oh yeah I have some in my purse, Ill go get it.” Belle said getting up going over to the couch to get her purse.

After Gary took the Advil they sat down at the kitchen table to talk.

‘Hey Gary I have two tickets to go down to California for a couple of days and I want to take you with me before you go back out on the road. So we can get away for a bit.’ Isabella said smiling trying to get Gary excited.

“Belle I cant, I cant fly.” Gary said spoiling Belles fun as she realized where he was going.

“Gary Ill be with you, it’ll be ok. Please just give me a chance with this one thing.” Belle said putting her hand on his knee.

‘Belle.” Gary sighed as a sign of giving in.

“Thank you, I promise it’ll be ok.” belle said getting up to pack.

She ran upstairs and took out their suitcases. They were planned to fly the next morning so that night Gary and Belle cuddled in bed. Belle kissed Gary as he scooted closer to her.

“Hum Belle.’ Gary said giving Belle another kiss.

Belle ran her hands under the back of his shirt. Gary ran his fingers through her now long golden hair. Belle took Gary’s belt buckle and unsnapped it. She pulled his belt through the loops and threw it on the floor. Gary unbuttoned Belle’s shirt and slowly rolled it off her arms. Belle kissed Gary’s bare chest as he threw off his shirt and they dove under the covers. Belle threw herself on top of Gary and kissed him deeply.

“Oh Gary.’ Belle whispered low in his ear.

Gary flipped her over and kissed her from her belly button to her delicious lips.

The morning after Gary woke up and thought everything had only been a dream. But when he saw Belle sleeping peacefully next to him he knew that it was all too real. Belle’s alarm clock went off as Belle slapped it to turn off. She laid her head on Gary’s chest and closed her eyes.

‘Come on sleeping beautiful, you have to get up.’ Gary said kissing Belle’s forehead.

Gary put their bags in the truck and off they went. Belle had called the guy’s private plane for use that day. Before stepping on to the plane Gary had to have a detailed and very long conversation with the pilot of the plane. Once inside the plane Gary was very nervous. Belle took Gary’s hand and kissed his cheek, but he was still stiff and shaky. After they landed Gary released all his tensions. Belle had got them a cabin by the beach.

“So do you like it?” belle asked after they had unpacked and had took a little peek around the cabin.

“Yes I do, Belle I could never thank you enough for this.’ Gary replied as they went outside on the beach.

All he had been thinking about lately was Kevin and just an a blink of an eye Belle took his mind off of everything. He loved her so much. They held each others hand as they walked along the beach where the water would come up by their feet and then quickly disappear. Belle found a perfect spot along the beach where they could sit down and watch the sun go down. Gary had a sudden urge to tell Belle everything he had been feeling for the last couple of days.

“Belle horrible for acting the way I have been, but I have this huge sense of guilt hanging over my head. If Kevin had never been in Tennessee to see me he would of never of been on that plane. I feel responsible for my brothers death and its getting to be way to much for me.’ Gary paused to keep from crying, then realized he had nothing else to say.

“Oh no Gary. It’s not your fault. Gary the plane had a malfunction, you could of never have prevented that.” Belle replied placing her hand on his back and looking into his deep sad blue eyes.

Soon it was dark outside so they chased each other back to the cabin. Gary plopped down on the couch and Belle soon followed him with a big blow of ice cream.

‘Aw none for me?” Gary asked giving off his best puppy dog eyes.

Belle pulled out two spoons and gave one to Gary then put on in the bowl of ice cream. She smiled and kissed Gary as she sat down on the couch.

“Belle, I… I love you.” Gary said not knowing if Belle would respond the way he wanted her too.

“Gary… I think I love you too.” Belle said smiling and shaking.

Gary threw his arm around both of his shoulders and gave her a squeeze. Belle began to grow tired so she got up and tugged on Gary’s hand like a little girl.

“Aw are you tired?” Gary chuckled.

He got up and followed her to the bedroom. As they laid down Belle fell fast asleep, but Gary laid awake, unable to sleep. All he could think about was Kevin. Soon it was going to be June and Kevin was to graduate OSU and get his master degree in psychology. He was great with kids and wanted to be come a social worker. Now all Gary could think about was all the things Kevin would never get to do, like getting married or having kids. It made Gary sick to his stomach. He went to the bathroom and heaved everything up from his stomach but nothing would come up but air and the nausea. When Belle found him in the bathroom the next morning he was a sleep on the floor leaning against the bathtub.

Chapter ten

Belle sat next to him and laid her head on his chest. She had no idea what he was going through because she had been an only child. She could only image what it would feel like to have your only brother be snatched away from you in such a horrible accident. Gary woke up all stiff and tired.

“Gary what are you doing sleeping on the bathroom floor?” Belle asked helping him up.

‘Belle I don’t want to talk about it.” Gary replied.

Belle could see the pain in his eyes so she didn’t push it any further. She walked out of the bathroom and got dressed for the day. She was taking Gary horse back riding. Gary came out of the bathroom soon after and got on some clean clothes, it wasn’t going to a good day for himself.

After breakfast Belle implied, “ Well Gary Im going horse back riding and I wanted you to come with me, but you seem hell bent on having a horrible day. If your coming be ready an in hour, if not have a nice day cause I wont be home till dark.”

She gave him no time to answer as she got up to clean the morning dishes. Gary didn’t know why she was in such a bad mood, but he didn’t want to find out either. When she left Gary had already been gone for an hour. He said he was going to take a long slow walk on the beach to clear his head and sort out things. She was half disappointed Gary didn’t go and half relieved. She needed some time to think alone too. Once on the horse Belle was aloud to run off deep into the woods with no tour guide. She was so glad Gary had finally come around and told her he loved her. She knew she felt the same way. She just wish this wouldn’t of happened at this specific time. She wish she knew him better so she could help him more. Belle didn’t want Gary to be frustrated an more. When she got home Gary was passed out on the couch. Belle threw a blanket over him and kissed his forehead as she went upstairs to bed. In the morning Belle woke up beside a dozen red roses and a letter. The letter read:

Belle I love you and I never meant to hurt your feelings yesterday. I’m just so confused, and I know you’re just trying to help. I just don’t know how to accept it.

Sorry,

Gary

She smiled as tears trickled down her face, at least he knew how she felt. Belle got up and put the roses in a vase full of fresh water. She took the note and stuffed it in her pocket. Isabella walked outside and saw Gary sitting alone on the beach. Sitting beside Gary, he pulled Belle onto his lap and kissed her head.

“Thank you.’ belle whispered as the sun hit her sensitive eyes.

‘Any time sunshine.” Gary said looking out at the ocean.

“Gary I didn’t mean to take it so personally, but I’ve tired and tired to help you. I know your not pushing me away but it seems like I just cant get any closer to you with out hurting myself.” Isabella said looking around at Gary.

It took a second before Gary said, “ Belle you should of took it personally. I have to realize my behavior doesn’t only affect me it affects you too. I’m sorry.” Gary gave belle a huge bear hug.

They walked back into the cabin so they could pack. It was their last night there. The plane ride home was a peaceful one which put Gary at ease. As soon as they got home Gary packed up for the guy’s tour and then took a plane to New York for Good Morning America. While the guys were away Belle and Destiny spent more time together. Isabella and Destiny were out looking at baby clothes in the mall.

‘You know this would go better if you knew the baby’s gender.” Belle said smirking as she looked through all the pretty dresses they had for baby girls.

“I know, know. Four more weeks until I know though. How about we take a brake from all this shopping.” Destiny said.

‘Good idea, lets get some things to get down at Tim Horton’s.” Belle replied as they left the mall.

They both got bagels and hot chocolate.

“So how are you and Gary?” Destiny asked.

“Good.’ belle said smiling.

‘Oh come on you know I need details.” Destiny said being nosey.

“Well while we were down in California Gary and I spent a lot of time just being with each other. I don’t know I just feel so right when I’m with him, like that’s where I’m suppose to be.” Belle said sighing as she could feel Gary’s arms wrapped tightly around her.

“Aw Belle you know for the longest time Gary felt the same way about you and you didn’t know it?” Destiny asked.

“Well I guess I did but I didn’t know if I felt the same way.” Belle said feeling goose bumps all over.

“So how are you and Joe Don?” Belle asked trying to switch the conversation off of her.

“Well mainly excited about having a baby, but ya know what I’m kind of scared.’ Destiny said confiding in Isabella.

“ Oh Destiny you don’t have to be scared.” Belle replied.

“Belle I have no idea what I’m doing.” Destiny said letting out her sobs.

Belle stood up and held Destiny. She knew what that felt like. To be scared and feel all alone, but Destiny wasn’t alone. Belle wanted to make sure she knew that.

Chapter 11

Back at Destiny’s house Belle was trying to comfort her.

‘Belle when I found out I was pregnant my whole world stopped. I didn’t want a baby, not now any way.” Destiny said wiping at her eyes with a tissue.

“Destiny, all I can say is that when you finally hold that baby in your arms you’ll have this feeling that is indescribable. I know that seems like a long way away from now, but I’m always here for you to talk to and I’m sure Joe don would understand if you told him.” Belle said as her pager went off.

“Well I have to go to the diner to help them close up, but I’ll be back.” belle said as she hugged Destiny before she left.

During the day all Belle could think about was Destiny and what she had told her. She was cleaning up the diner when her cell phone rang.

“Hey sugar.” Gary said as she picked up her phone.

“Hey Gar-bear. How’s the tour going ?” Isabella asked wiping off the counters.

‘Good, like always. How are you?” Gary asked.

‘I’m fine, it’s Destiny I’m worried about.” Belle said sitting on the counter getting her jeans wet.

‘Why?” Gary asked wondering id this is some thing Joe Don needed to hear.

‘Well she’s scared about being a mom, but I have some thing special planned for her.” Belle said smiling.

“I should of known you did. I miss you, but I’ve got to go.” Gary replied.

“I miss you too, I love you.” Belle said.

“I love you too honey.” Gary replied hanging up the phone and going back to rehearsal.

When Belle was done with the diner she drove by Destiny’s house to tell her what their plans were for tomorrow evening. Belle knocked on the door and a groggy Destiny opened it.

“Aw honey did I wake you up/” Isabella asked as Destiny let her in.

“No it’s not like I can sleep anyway.” Destiny said as they sat on the couch.

“Well I have some thing that might cheer you up.” Belle said.

“What is it?” Destiny asked intrigued.

“Well you know how our old church back in Ohio use to have Biker Sunday?” Belle asked trying to get to what she was planning to say.

“Yeah what about it?” Destiny asked even more curious.

“Well they are coming to Tennessee and doing Biker Sunday at that old church right outside of Nashville. So tomorrow around 5 o’clock I was going to go and I want you to come with me.” Isabella said excitedly.

“Oh my god, of course I’ll go.” Destiny said finally giving off a smile.

Isabella left so Destiny could get some sleep. The next day Isabella left work early so she could go home and get ready for church. She put on her tight jeans with a high heeled boot. Then she ransacked her closet for the perfect shirt. The final choice was between a black shirt with printed sleeves or a peach shirt with lace at the bottom, she choose the peach one. Then she went to the bathroom and put her make up on and played with her hair until she got it done perfectly. It was down and parted to the side. She put a little bit of hair spray on and put her contacts in her eyes. When she was satisfied with her look she called Destiny to tell her she was on her way. Belle picked up Destiny at 4:30 and drove the rest of the way to the church. Isabella was so nervous she hadn’t seen most of these people since she graduated college. Destiny was also nervous she didn’t know half of the people that were going to be there. Once they got there all the motorcycles were lined up in the parking lot. As they walked towards the door they were greeted by Bernie and Phil. Phil and Bernie had been married for 15 years. They have one daughter who just recently had a beautiful baby girl. Phil teaches the adult Sunday school. Isabella met them after she had been to the church a couple of times and she immediately connected with Phil. Phil was a very nice and conscientious guy. Bernie was also very wonderful and nice person.

“Hey Isabella long time no see.” Bernie said shaking her hand.

“Hi Bernie I want you to meet my friend Destiny, she’s been here before just not in a very long time.” Belle said as Destiny shook Bernie’s hand.

“Hey Destiny how are you?” Bernie asked as Isabella walked on over to Phil.

“Hey Phil, how are you doing?” Belle asked giving him a hug.

“Hello Belle and I’m fine how have you been?” Phil replied as Destiny walked over.

“I have been ok, Phil I would like you to meet my friend Destiny.” Belle said as Destiny shook Phil’s hand.

“Ah, I remember Destiny. How have you been?” Phil asked pulling her into a hug.

“I have been good. I got married and My husband and I are expecting our first child.” Destiny replied.

“Well congratulations talk to you guys later.” Phil said as we walked on inside.

Glenda was standing in side the door of the nursery waiting for some one to drop off their little ones. When Belle was a teenager Glenda and Belle worked in the nursery together on Sundays. Glenda was a widow. She had one daughter who was married with 5 year old twins, Andrew and Anastasia. Glenda was a very bubbly person who was always up for a good laugh. When Isabella and Destiny walked up to the door Glenda didn’t know who Belle was.

“Hi do you have a little one to drop off?” Glenda asked smiling.

“Ah, Glenda it’s me Belle.” Isabella said laughing.

“Oh my gosh Belle it’s been so long. How have you been?” Glenda asked giving Belle a huge hug.

“I Have been keeping my self occupied. How about yourself?” Belle replied.

“Well nothing much. Just celebrated the twin’s 5th birthday.” Glenda replied as Belle introduced Destiny and they walked in to see the cute little babies already in the nursery, which made Destiny feel all warm inside.

Once they were done cooing at the babies they walked into the auditorium where there were also two greeters, Kathy and Ester. Kathy and Esther have been friends for over 30 years. They are very close and very funny. They play on each others personality and you cant see one with out the other. They say their hellos and Isabella and Destiny find their seat in the second row near the edge. They walked back out into the hallway so Belle could say hello to a few other people like Jerrie the children’s ministry director, Brian who helps with the older kids and Ginger who is pastor Steve’s wife. They all welcomed Destiny with open arms and encouraging thoughts about her unborn child. Back in the auditorium Belle lead Destiny over to the Guest Central. Guest Central is where a person who has never been to the Leave A Mark Church before goes so they can fill out a paper and get a bible if they don’t have one. Paul and Karen were in charge of Guest Central that night. Karen and Paul were both from broken marriages and had been married for 10 years. Paul was a cancer survivor. Karen was the most beautifully spirited woman ever. She was the nicest and most bubbly blonde.

“Isabella!” Karen exclaimed hurrying over to Belle to give her a good old fashioned hug.

“Hey girl we haven’t seen you here in a while.” Paul said giving Belle a hug after Karen.

“Hey guys I would like you to meet my friend Destiny it’s her first time here sort of.” Belle said as Karen took Destiny and talked with her about LAMC.

While Belle waited for Destiny and Karen to finish some came up behind Belle and hugged her from behind. She twirled around only to see Demis behind her. Demis had been her good friend while she attended Leave A Mark Church. He was about ten years older then her but they got along great.

“Oh my gosh Demis how have you been? I’ve missed you.” Belle said giving him a hug.

“I have been good. I got married and my wife and I are expecting our second child. I’ve missed u too, how have you been?” Demis replied.

“Aw congratulations. Well I have been around. I’m currently dating, so life is good.” Belle replied as Destiny came up and was introduced to Demis.

They went to their seats as the music started to play. After the band played two songs pastor Steve had everyone hold hands as they prayed, and when he was done everyone took a minute to talk and meet each other. Walking around Belle bumped into Max and Dee Reed. Dee and Max are one of the reasons Isabella was saved as a teenager, they helped her see how God was important aspect in her life.

“Max! How have you been?” Belle said giving Max a hug.

“I’ve been good. I got to ride my bike out today. How about you?” Max asked.

“I’ve been alright just kind of chilling’ right now. Hey Dee.” Belle said giving Dee a hug.

Soon everyone went back to their seats as pastor Steve started his sermon. When he was done he introduced the prayer team which consist of Max, Dee, Stacy, Randy, Judy, and Dawn. Around the time Destiny and Belle started to leave Destiny told Belle she was going to go talk to Judy and would be a minute.

Destiny walked over to Judy and asked her, “Can I pray with you?”

“Yes of course lets take a seat over on that bench.” Judy said as they walked on over to the bench.

“I’m Destiny one of Belle’s friends and I’m expecting my first child with my husband.” Destiny began.

“Aw congratulations.” Judy replied.

“Thank you, but I’m scared. I don’t know what I’m doing. I didn’t plan to have this baby. I really wanted to further my career and maybe go back to school. I just… I’m going out of my mind and my husband has no idea. He thinks everything’s just dandy.” Destiny said breaking down.

“Oh sweetheart everything will turn out fine. Just remember God has a plan for everyone. He’ll make sure everything turns out just the way he wants it.” Judy said taking Destiny’s hands into hers as she bent her head to pray.

After they were done Judy gave Destiny a hug and wiped her tears away. Destiny walked over to Belle who was talking with Sherry, Regina, Peggy, Penny, Jill, twinkle, Kim, Rick, Brenda Pat, Bill, Rosa, and Dawn. As they began to leave pastor Steve caught them in the hallway shook their hands and talked for a while before he had to help take down the set. So as they got in the car Belle could see Destiny was feeling quite better.

‘Belle thank you for taking me here. I had a nice time. The people here are so friendly and nice.” Destiny said as she wiped at her eyes a few more times.

“Oh your welcome and I’m glad you enjoyed yourself. This use to be my safe haven when I was a kid, still is I guess.” Isabella replied as she backed out of the parking lot and drove back home.

Destiny could finally see what she was missing all along. She had created what was going to be a beautiful child with her husband. She was now happy and only concerned about her child and the things he or she would need.

Chapter 12

After three months the guys came home for a two week break. By this point Belle and Gary had gotten very close, but Belle was still afraid of getting hurt. Gary wanted to do some thing special for Isabella for what she had done for himself. So he planned a little get away for the weekend for the both of them in his cabin, which is isolated by the woods. He wanted to surprise her so while he drove them up to his cabin he had her wear a blind fold.

‘So what’s such a secret?” Isabella asked curiously.

‘You’ll see when we get there.” Gary replied pulling into the driveway.

“We’re here but don’t take your blind fold off yet.” Gary said getting out of the car and going to open the door for Belle and help her out.

He lead her up to the front porch and took off her blind fold.

‘Oh gosh Gary this cabin is beautiful.” belle said looking up at him.

‘This is my cabin I’ve been telling you about. We’re staying here for the weekend, kind of like a get away. I already called the diner and let them. So you can just relax.’ Gary said smiling.

Isabella walked in the cabin and took a little tour by herself while Gary got their suitcases out of the car. His cabin had an upstairs with two bedrooms, a den, and a bathroom. The downstairs has a kitchen with a dining room, a living room, and a family room. Both of the front and back porches were complete with rocking chairs and swings that hung from the roof. Out back there was a path that lead to his dock and branched off to the woods. Belle went back inside where Gary was relaxing on the couch. She smiled as she watched him sitting there on the couch with his eyes closed. When he saw her looking at him he smiled.

“Come join me.’ Gary said patting the couch cushion beside him.

Belle walked over to the couch and sat next to Gary. She slowly ran her fingers through Gary’s spiked hair. No words were needed for such a silent moment. Gary looked down into Belle’s beautiful blue eyes and leaned down to kiss her. The kiss was long and slow. When they pulled apart Belle was smiling from ear to ear. She laid her head on his chest and closed her eyes. They took a nap all afternoon. When Gary woke up Belle had just left to go for a walk in the woods. It was so beautiful outside. The sun was out and there wasn’t a cloud in sight. Belle had picked a perfect time to go walking because the sun was just starting to go down and the sky was turning different colors of purple and orange. Belle noticed she had been gone for a long time when some one came up behind her and hugged her waist tight. She didn’t even have to turn around.

“Hey Gary. Did you miss me?” Belle laughed as she turned around and kissed him.

“Humm yes I did.” Gary said holding Belle’s hand as they walked further down the path.

They walked a ways down before they said any thing. This is what Gary had always wanted. Some one he could have by his side and just enjoy their company with out any distractions. Nothing was needed when he was with her. It was like his world was perfect. He knew it might be a little early to gave Belle a wedding ring so he had some thing else in mind. Later that night Gary packed a picnic for them and set it up at the end of the path in the woods before Belle noticed he was gone. When he went back to the cabin he pulled belle aside and asked if she would take a walk with him, she agreed. At the end of the walk she saw what he had set up and turned to face Gary with tear filled eyes.

“You did all this just for me?” Belle asked chocking out the words.

“Of course Belle you deserve it.” Gary said as he lit the candles.

They sat down and Gary wrapped his arm around her waist. Belle sighed as she let out a few tears.

“Belle what’s wrong?” Gary asked wondering if all of this was too much.

“No Gary it’s perfect. I just… im not use to being treated this way. So nice, like im so special.” Belle said leaning into his side.

“Well you’re a princess and you deserve to be treated like one. Belle I love you’ Gary said kissing the top of head and pulled out a black velvet box.

“Gary what is that?” Belle asked hoping it wasn’t a ring.

“Well open it and find out.” Gary said handing her the box.

When she opened it she pulled out a chain with a ring on it.

“I know it’s to early for us to be engaged but Belle I love you and I truly hope we can stay together forever. I want you to wear this only if you feel the same way towards me.” Gary said fearing that she would throw it in his face and run away because that’s the last thing he wanted her to do.

Chapter 13

Belle studied the necklace a minute which made Gary’s heart almost beat out of his chest. She put it around her neck and kissed Gary.

‘oh thank god, I thought you were going to turn me down.” Gary said holding Belle tight.

‘I was thinking about it.” Belle said smiling as Gary’s face went blank.

‘On come on I was just joking. Gary its beautiful, and you’re a beautiful person. I really want this to work too. I love you.” Belle said kissing his face.

“Good.’ Gary replied relieved.

They could of stayed there all night just staring into each others eyes but it began to rain.

“Ah!” Belle exclaimed as she began to laugh.

“I’ll race you home.” Gary said smirking.

“No lets stay here in the rain.” Belle said twirling around like a princess.

Just as crazy as it seems they began to dance and Gary hummed Belle’s favorite song in her ear .

I like blue eyes, hers are green
Not like the woman of my dreams
And her hair’s not quite as long as I had planned
Five foot three isn’t tall
She’s not the girl I pictured at all
In those paint by number fantasies I’ve had

(Chorus)
So it took me by complete surprise
When my heart got lost in those deep green eyes
She’s not at all what I was looking for
She’s more

No, it wasn’t at first site
But the moment I looked twice
I saw the woman I was born to love
Her laughter fills my soul
And when I hold her I don’t wanna let go
When it comes to her I can’t get enough

(Repeat Chorus)

More than I dreamed of
More than any man deserves
I couldn’t ask for more
Than a love like hers

When it was done Isabella’s eyes grew heavy and she began to get tired. So Gary took Belle and picked her up.

“No Gary I’m to heavy for you to carry all the way to the house.” Belle said trying to get down.

“Oh come on. Your exhausted.’ Gary replied starting to the house.

At the house Belle had fell asleep so Gary laid her on the couch and covered her in a blanket. The next morning Isabella woke up in a big Ohio state shirt and grey jogging pants. She walked in the kitchen and saw Gary drinking coffee and reading the news paper.

“Morning, how’d you sleep last night?” Gary asked getting up to make Belle a cup of coffee.

“I slept really good thank you.” Belle replied taking the cup of coffee and sitting next to Gary.

In the morning light Isabella looked just like an angel, Gary thought. Gary just sat there staring at her when she looked over she smiled.

“What are you looking at?” Belle asked softly.

“At how beautiful you are.” Gary replied as he got up and wrapped his arms around her shoulders.

Belle didn’t say any thing. She just sat there enjoying his company as they watched the sun come up.

“Well I’m going up stairs to take a shower after being in the rain all night, and by the look of the shower upstairs I say there’s room for two.” Isabella said mischievously.

“I see, well I think I would like to take a shower too.” Gary said chasing belle up the stairs.

They hoped into the shower and turned the water on.

“You know I really want to get clean.” Belle said smiling.

“Well I can help you.” Gary said getting the body wash out and rubbing it on Belle’s back.

“Hum that feel’s so good.’ Belle said turning around and kissed Gary long and slow.

Gary and Belle made love until the water got cold, then they rushed to get under the covers where they got tangled in the sheets. Belle fell asleep in Gary’s arms, so peaceful. In the morning Belle felt fine but as the day went on she began to feel sick. They were going home and in the car Belle couldn’t stop sneezing.

“Are you ok?” Gary asked handing her a tissue.

“Yeah I think I just got a cold from being out in the rain.” Belle said blowing her nose.

Isabella hoped it was just a cold but she also knew it could be something else. It was time for a doctors visit and soon.

Chapter 14

Soon the guys were back on tour and belle still didn’t feel good, but she had delayed going to the doctors because Destiny was on bed rest and she promised Joe Don she would help her out.

“Belle you really do need to go see a doctor. Why don’t you go to the doctor’s tomorrow? My parents are coming down, I’ll be fine.” Destiny said one quite afternoon.

“I guess I should, but to tell you the truth I think I already know.’ Belle said as she stared contently at the floor.

‘What?” Destiny asked worried.

“Destiny I think I’m pregnant. I haven’t had my period since the month before Gary and I went up to his cabin. I’m tired all the time, and I vomit every morning.’ Belle said as she cried.

‘Oh my god.” Was all Destiny could say.

“Please don’t tell Gary. Let me tell him when I know for sure.” Belle said wiping at her eyes.

“I wont tell him, and if you need any thing even just to talk call me.” Destiny said holding belle like she was a little girl and had just fell for the first time, and found out what real pain felt like.

The next day Isabella got up early to go to the doctors. She was so nervous she couldn’t stand. Maybe its just better not to know Belle thought, but she knew she was only kidding herself. Belle was so shaky she barely got the car key in the ignition. In the waiting room of the hospital Belle reviewed her options. There was no way she was giving this baby up for adoption, she knew how hard that could be. She also knew there was no way she was having an abortion, that was totally out of the question. Now she was down to two options. First she could not tell Gary and run, or tell Gary and hope he turns out to be the sweetheart she believed he was. Her heart dropped when the doctor called out her name. She walked into the icy cold room as the doctor left her to change into the hospital gown. Belle felt scared and alone. When the doctor came back into the room he slapped his latex gloves on and put her legs in the stirrups, Belle was sick to her stomach. After the examination the doctor confirmed the worst. Isabella was three weeks pregnant and she had no idea what to do. Driving back home Belle was very tempted to call Gary and tell him everything, but she couldn’t give him that kind of news like that while he was on tour. By the time she got to her house she knew she was going to tell him. It would be mean and cruel to run away while carrying his child and not give him a chance to do any thing. Belle also knew Gary could reject her and kick her to the curb. That would be guilt on his part. She was so scared Gary would say this was to much, that she wanted to keep driving when she saw her house pull into view. Isabella couldn’t and wouldn’t leave though, so she reluctantly pulled into the driveway. Belle didn’t have to check up on Destiny until next week when her parents left, but the person she wanted to confide in most was Destiny. Belle fell down on the couch. She didn’t want to be pregnant. She wasn’t even engaged. Who knows how Gary will take it. Belle calculated in her head that she would be four months pregnant by the time Gary got back home from the tour. When Gary called Belle she was asleep on the couch.

‘Hey honey, sorry I woke you up.” Gary said hearing the grogginess in her voice.

“No its ok. Do you know what time it is/” Belle asked sitting up.

‘Yeah its like 6:30 your time.” Gary replied.

‘Oh god.’ Belle said running her hand through her hair.

‘Why? What’s wrong?” Gary asked worried.

‘I laid down to take a nap and it was one o’clock.’ Belle replied sighing.

“Well have you been to the doctors yet?” Gary asked as Belle got tense.

She knew he was going to ask that but she also knew she had to give him this kind of news in person so she lied.

“Yeah it was just a cold, but I’m fine now.” Belle replied feeling awful.

‘I’m glad your ok. Belle I miss you.” Gary said.

‘I know so do I, but I have to go.” Belle said as she hung up the phone.

Isabella started to tear up. She never wanted to get this attached to him. What if he hurt her like so many others? What if she didn’t want to stay in Nashville/ Isabella loved Gary, there was no doubt about it. She was just scared because every time she got this close to some one and commitment she ran away, but this time she couldn’t because Belle had a responsibility. A baby, Belle couldn’t believe it. This was a life time commitment. No wonder Destiny was scared at first, Isabella thought. At least Destiny was married, Belle wasn’t even engaged. Belle knew Gary would do the right thing and ask her to marry him, but she didn’t want their marriage to be because of a baby. The rest of the three months went by super fast. In no time Gary was back home. Destiny was two days past her due date when Joe Don called Belle telling her that destiny was in labor.

“Ok Joey I’ll be there soon.’ Belle said getting Gary and driving up to the hospital.

Belle, Gary, Jay, and his new girlfriend Kandy were sitting in the waiting room when Joe don come out holding a baby in a tiny pink blanket.

“Aw Joey she looks just like Destiny. What’s her name?” Belle asked as Joe Don handed his little girl to her.

“Well Belle her name will be Sara Belle Rooney.” Joe Don said as a tear fell down Isabella’s face.

Chapter 15

After a couple of days Joe Don and Destiny got to bring home baby Sara. Isabella spent a lot of time over at their house just watching Sara and how amazing she was. Belle knew she had to tell Gary sooner rather then later about the baby, she couldn’t hide under baggy clothes forever. Gary knew some thing was wrong, belle just wasn’t herself. So he went to talk to the person who knew her best, Jay. While Belle was with Destiny one day Gary walked down to Jay’s house.

‘So what’s got you all hot and bothered?” Jay asked giving Gary a beer from the fridge.

“It’s Belle man, she’s been acting funny.” Gary said as they step out into the backyard.

“What you mean?” Jay asked sipping his beer.

“Well she doesn’t want to get close any more. She’s always wearing these baggy clothes, like she’s trying to hide some thing.” Gary said making himself scared.

“Oh come on.. Maybe she’s homesick.” jay replied taking his empty bottle of beer and throwing it against the ground causing a loud shatter of glass.

“What was that for?” Gary asked stepping back.

“Putting excitement in this gloomy conversation.” Jay replied picking up the big pieces of glass and throwing them away along with Gary’s empty beer bottle that’s sat on the back porch steps.

“I thought belle didn’t have any family back home.” Gary said getting back to their original conversation.

“Well last year her aunt Cheryl contacted her and they are really close. You should ask her if she wants to go to Ohio to visit. You know make rounds and let her meet your mom.” Jay said as they went inside.

‘Yeah that’s an idea.” Gary said as he left.

When he got to Joe Don’s house belle and Destiny were in the living room just watching Sara sleep, what was so entertaining about that.

“Hey sugar ready to go?” Gary asked looking down at Sara and how precious she really was.

“Yeah.” Belle said getting up really dizzy she feel back along the couch.

‘Are you ok?” Gary asked helping her up once again.

‘Yeah I’m fine just got up to fast that’s all.’ Isabella replied trying to play it off.

“Hey take care of yourself.” Destiny said as they left.

“What did she mean by that?” Gary asked as they pulled out of Destiny and Joe dons driveway.

“Nothing, she meant nothing.” belle said all of a sudden feeling tired.

She laid her head against the window and fell asleep. When Gary pulled up to their house he took her and carried her to the couch. Soon the mail came and Gary began to read it. There was a letter from the doctor’s office so he opened it not reading who it was for. It was a prescription for prenatal. Gary didn’t know what to make of it so he waited until belle woke up to talk to her about it. Belle woke up and Gary was contently staring at her.

‘What are you staring at?” belle asked sitting up.

“You sleeping. Hey I have a question what is this? I picked it up in the mail this afternoon.” Gary said handing her the letter.

Isabella gulped as she read it. This was now or never she had to tell him, or he would go snooping until he found out and then get mad at her for not telling him.

“Look Gary I have to tell you some thing, but I’m scared very scared.” Belle said taking Gary’s hands into her own.

“Belle what is it?” Gary asked getting really worried.

“Gary I’m pregnant, and yes you’re the father.” Belle spit out the words as Gary’s eyes grew wide.

“GARY SAY SOME THING PLEASE!” Isabella yelled as Gary stood up and stared at her blankly.

Chapter 16

“ Belle how far along are you?” Gary asked once he had calmed down long enough to be a sane human being.

‘I’m 16 weeks along, Gary please don’t be mad at me.” Belle said feeling all the blame guilt being pushed upon her.

“Belle I’m certainly not mad at you, I’m very surprised but not mad. I just want to know why you waited so long to tell me?” Gary asked sitting next to Belle on the couch.

‘I was scared of you.” Isabella said in tears.

‘Oh honey you know I would never hurt you in any way.” Gary said holding her.

“Yeah I believe you, but we are going to be parents and Im terrified. I had no idea how you would react to such a life changing statement.’ Belle said getting up and pacing the floor.

“ I bet, but Isabella I love you. I wanted this to wait until after Christmas but I guess now is a good time as ever.” Gary said getting up and walking towards the bedroom.

Belle knew what he was doing, she wanted to stop him she did, but the moment was just too perfect. It was almost like a fairy tale you read as a child. He dropped to one knee and held out a beautiful engagement ring. She so desperately wanted to say yes, the ring almost made her change her mind.

“Belle will you marry me?” Gary asked.

This is the moment Belle had always wanted, but it just felt all wrong.

“No, Gary this is all wrong.” Isabella replied storming out of the house.

Gary couldn’t believe what he had just saw. He took a drive around town to see if he could find her but he couldn’t. So he went to Destiny and Joe’s house to see if she had went there.

“No I haven’t seen her. Gary what happened?” Destiny asked holding Sara in the crook of her arm.

Gary didn’t know if Belle had told Destiny or not so he just nodded towards Sara.

“Oh so she told you.” Destiny said taking the hint.

‘Yea and I proposed but she said no. Why would she do that?” Gary replied tired and worried.

“Oh Gary I’m sorry.” Destiny said as she felt his emotions of humiliation and sadness swirl around the room.

“Why did she say no?” Gary repeated playing with Sara’s little fingers.

“Gary she’s scared, just give her time.” Destiny said as Sara began to get fussy.

“Well I see it’s someone’s naptime so I’ll show myself out.” Gary said leaving.

When he got home his front door was flung open and he could hear crying from the living room. He waited a few seconds before he walked. Belle was laying flat on her stomach on the couch with her face in a pillow. Gary kneeled down in front of her, and rubbed her back. She turned to look at him and sighed.

‘I’m sorry.” they both said spontaneously.

Gary let out a small laugh and hugged Isabella. This was the father of her child and she was glad, but she knew they weren’t ready for what was coming up. She sat up and Gary sat beside her.

‘What are we going to do?” Belle asked laying her head on Gary’s broad shoulder.

‘We are going to love and take care of this baby no matter what happens.” Gary said running his fingers through Belle’s hair.

He was perfect for her but maybe he was too good to be true. All her dreams were coming true (maybe not in order), but none the less they were coming true. Belle never dreamed of having a life like this. She never dreamed she would be dating a wonderful, caring man and having his child. She knew his wealth shouldn’t matter, but it did. Growing up she didn’t have much. Her parents had to file bankruptcy by the time she was fourteen, and three years before there she was made to get her first job. Belle’s father worked two jobs and was a retired army soldier of twenty years. Isabella’s mother was a preschool teacher for two years then became a stay at home mom. She was crippled not too soon after that so no matter what happened financially she couldn’t help out. As an adult Belle made a decent pay check for her kind of life style, but it was nothing compared to Gary’s. Belle loved Gary so much and she wanted her child to have the life she never had. So she started to rethink her answer to him life changing question. A week had gone by and Gary was really getting excited about the baby. Gary was painting the baby room yellow when Belle walked by the nursery. She stopped to watch. He was humming a tune and dipping the roller into the paint when he caught her watching him.

‘What?’ Gary asked pulling Belle close to him as he walked out into the hallway.

“You just look so darn cute.” Belle said smiling.

‘Not to bad yourself.” Gary replied letting Belle go.

“When you finish up in here we are going to the mall to buy baby furniture.” Belle said laughing at Gary’s facial expression which was priceless.

“Yay shopping!” Gary exclaimed acting like a preppy girl.

At the baby store Belle had picked up the cutest stuffed animal. It was an elephant with soft plush gray fur. She held it in her arms while they looked at cribs and changing tables, dressers and rockers. At the check out counter Belle knew she wanted the elephant for her son or daughter, it would be sort of like their security blanket. When they got home Belle went upstairs to take a nap as Gary went to work on setting the furniture up in the nursery. As she woke up Isabella walked into the nursery. She placed the little elephant in the crib and stepped back to look at it. When she turned around to leave she bumped into Gary who was silently smiling at her.

“Now it’s perfect.’ Gary said as Belle turned to look at her unborn child’s bedroom with Gary’s arms around her waist.

Chapter 17

Isabella was laying down in bed taking her hand and washing it over her swelling belly. She had gotten up to get ready for her doctor’s appointment when she felt the baby kick for the first time. It had been two months since she told Gary that she was expecting their first child. The first snow of winter had fallen and it devoured everything in it’s wake.

‘Belle are you ready to go?” Gary asked walking back into the bedroom.

“Hey come here, I want you to feel this.” Belle said as Gary walked over to her.

Isabella placed Gary’s hand on her tummy as Gary felt the baby kick wildly.

‘Doesn’t that hurt?” Gary asked helping Belle sit up.

‘No, not really. It just feels weird.” Belle replied adjusting her top.

At the doctor’s office Belle laid down on the icy table as he rubbed the cool jell on her lower abdomen. Belle shuddered as he took a microphone type instrument and rubbed her tummy to get a good picture of the baby.

“See here that’s the baby’s head and these are your baby’s arms…” Dr. Underwood was pointing out the place of the baby when he stepped out of the room and asked a nurse to come in.

Belle was beginning to get nervous and looked over at Gary who had a cold blank stare on his face.

“Gary what’s going on?’ Belle said trying to sit up.

“I don’t know honey, but relax.” Gary replied trying to get Belle to calm down and stay laying down.

The nurse left the room leaving the doctor with a puzzled look on his face which turned into a half smile half worried look.

“Is everything ok/” Belle asked leaning up on her elbows getting even more worried.

“Well Ms. Hope you might want to double your babies things because you are having twins. Do you want to know the sex of your babies?” Dr. Underwood replied printing out the sonogram and putting it along with the other paper work he plans to give Belle and Gary.

“What?” Belle asked getting light headed as every thing the doctor said went in one ear and out the other.

“We’re having twins.” Gary said more to the air then to any one else.

“Would you like to their gender?” Dr. Underwood repeated letting the news sink in.

‘Um yes I would.” belle replied as Gary nodded.

“Baby A is a boy and baby B is a girl.” Dr. Underwood said giving them their paper work and told them they could leave.

Walking out to the car both Belle and Gary were silent. Getting into the car Belle was worried about what Gary was thinking.

‘Gary how do you feel? You were kind of quite in there.” Belle said taking his hand that wasn’t on the wheel and holding it.

‘Belle we are going to be responsible for not a baby but two babies. This is going to be hard and I cant lie I’m terrified.” Gary said squeezing Belle’s hand.

When they got home Belle went into the kitchen and poured herself a milkshake. She sat at the kitchen table and trembled with tears. Gary had confirmed her fears, this isn’t going to be a fairytale ending like she had thought. Now she’s having twins and unmarried. Things seemed like just got worse by the week. Gary saw Belle crying at the table and wanted to go over and tell her everything was going to be ok, He wanted to tell her nothing was wrong and that they could do this, but how can he tell her this if he didn’t believe it himself. So he walked over to her and sat next to her. He placed his hand on her back and soon began to rub it. He loved her so much. Her cries broke his heart.

“Gary Im scared.’ belle said through her tears.

Gary knew this so all he did was kiss the top of her head. Belle was scared she would lose Gary because she knew if he got scared enough he could leave, like so many others. Belle needed to talk with Gary and she needed to talk to him soon. Soon it would be Christmas and then a new year. The baby, she guessed babies were due in April around Jay’s birthday. Everything seemed to be happening all so soon.

A couple of days before Christmas Belle was getting antsy. This was her first Christmas with Gary and she wanted it to be perfect. Gary was also getting nervous. He wanted Belle to have an amazing Christmas because he knew this year hasn’t been the best for her. Early morning Christmas eve Gary pulled Belle out of bed and on to the couch where the fireplace was roaring.

“Belle I wrote you this song and I’ve been waiting to play it for you. I know you didn‘t want to get pregnant I know this isn‘t where you saw yourself, but you‘ll see this will be the best mistake we ever made.” Gary said as he started to play this song.

 I was young and single
Glad that i was free
Had my whole life ahead
There was nothing stoppin me

Headed out to Vegas, me and all my friends
Just a bunch of clowns runnin round in a town of sin
Ten shots later and one double dare
Met a girl said I do in some chapel out there

That was the best mistake I ever made
The Lord works in mysterious ways
Chose a wrong path all my life
But for once I did something right
And just one look in her and I see
Someone smiling down on me
And I'm not too proud to say
That was the best mistake I ever made

Trying to start a family was the last thing we had planned
Till I came home from work
She had her head in her hands
I could see the worry
Through the teardrops in her eyes
She said, "How we gonna do this when we're barely gettin by?"
We wern't prepared for all those changes in our world
That all changed when the doctor said it's a girl

That was the best mistake I ever made
The Lord works in mysterious ways
Chose a wrong path all my life
But for once I did something right
And just one look in her and I see
Someone smiling down on me
And I'm not too proud to say
That was the best mistake I ever made

There's consequences to the decisions in our lives
Just cause we didn't mean to do it that don't mean that it ain't right

That was the best mistake I ever made
The Lord works in mysterious ways
Chose a wrong path all my life
But for once I did something right
And just one look in her and I see
Someone smiling down on me
And I'm not too proud to say
That was the best mistake I ever made

As Gary put down the guitar Belle landed the perfect kiss on his lips. No words needed to be said Belle loved Gary and Gary loved Belle. Life was going to throw them swerves but he knew they could make it together and together only Gary knew she had shot him down the first time, but he knew he at least had to try again.

Chapter 18

Christmas morning Gary woke up around 5:30 in the morning. Belle was peacefully sleeping beside him. Gary placed his hand on her growing tummy. The babies made slight movements causing Belle to stir. Gary lifted his hand gently off of Belle but it was too late she was awake.

‘Merry Christmas sugar.” Gary said kissing Belle’s cheek.

Isabella groaned as she got up to go to the bathroom. She hadn’t got much sleep last night. When belle got out of the bathroom Gary was in the living room. The tree standing in the corner decorated with lights and ornaments with packages under it looked so beautiful, Belle felt like crying. Belle sat down on the couch next to Gary as he gave her the first present of the day. Belle slowly opened it as tears splashed the picture frame. Gary had a picture of the two of them laughing on their very first date framed in a golden frame that said dreams, love, and friendship on the outside.

‘Gary its beautiful thank you so much.” Belle said giving gary a hug.

Gary handed her a tissue and said, “ Sugar your welcome. You deserve it.”

Through out the morning Gary and Belle exchanged their gifts. Gary mostly got belle things for the babies, and Belle mostly got Gary things such as hunting gear and fishing gear. Gary was holding the best gift for last, when everyone started to get there. Jay and Kandy came over a little early so jay could help Gary setup and Kandy could keep Belle occupied. Its not a very good idea to have Kandy do that though because she is dating Jay and even though belle has moved on that’s still a very sore subject for her. There was a long awkward silence between them, but soon Destiny and Joe don came with little Sara. Belle answered the door and let them in. Joe don went into the kitchen with Jay and Gary. Destiny sat down next to Isabella holding Sara.

‘Merry Christmas.” Destiny said as tired to talk but all that came out was a baby’s goos and gahs.

“Merry Christmas to you too. Can I see Sara.” Belle said as Sara reached up her arms.

“Oh sure. How are you Kandy?” Destiny replied handing Sara over to Belle.

“I’m ok.” Kandy replied being very quite.

Isabella continued to play with Sara but she wasn’t really there. All she could think about was her twins growing in her belly.

“Earth to Belle.” Jay said waving his hand in front of her face.

“Oh Jay… what?” Belle asked giving Destiny Sara back.

“Time to eat come on.” jay said helping her up.

“Oh thanks.” Belle replied walking towards the kitchen with Jay.

“Are you sure you’re not having more then one baby?” Jay asked trying to be funny.

“We are. I’m having twins.’ Belle said being serious.

“What?” Jay asked shocked.

“I’m having a boy and a girl.” Belle said as they entered the kitchen, everyone had heard her.

The rest of the gang already knew she didn’t know why she had waited to tell jay but she did. After they ate Gary pulled Belle outside as they watched the snow fall .

“Gary it’s freezing out here what are you doing?” Isabella asked wrapping her arms around her tummy to keep warm.

Gary dropped to one knee and memories flooded Belle’s mind. She had regretted it since she said no and was terrified he would do it again. But this time she was ready she was going to say what he wanted to hear.

“Isabella Hope I love you with all my heart and those babies you are carrying will be the center of my heart. Belle will you marry me?” Gary asked holding out the originally ring.

Isabella nodded with tears as he slipped the diamond ring encased in while gold on her finger.

“Lets get you inside so those tears don’t freeze on your face.” Gary said wiping them away and kissing the top of her head as she wrapped her arms around his waist.

When they walked in the house everyone started to clap. It was all too much for Isabella so as the music started to play she hid in Gary’s arms as he rocked her back and forth.

Let's talk about love

This is my love story

Boy meets girl and looks in her eyes
Time stands still and two hearts catch fire
Off they go rollercoaster ride
Up & down and around...
Twisted all out they minds
And then his friends
Said "its too soon to settle down"
And then her friends
Said "he's a playa, slow it down"
They couldn't be who they was
Cause it just seemed like love
Wasn't on they side
But this isn't ...

Just another love story
Together we'll make history
I know because it's just too real
They'll be no end to our love story
And this ain't gon end up
Like that Casablanca movie...no
This ain't no fairy tale or fiction
This is truly
Ours for the eternity
They'll be no end to our love story
Baby...

Chapter two...
When they meet up again
Second time around
See but they're just friends
But the feelings still strong
And it's been too long
To be trippin' like they ain't been missing
They on the phone like
Ay bay bay
Let's meet up today
Gots bout an hour or two
You might as well come thru

We can make it like it was
Just the two of us
Back up on that rollercoaster
Like we been supposed to
Cause this isn't

Just another love story
Together we'll make history
I know because it's destiny
They'll be no end to our love story
And this ain't gon end up
Like that Casablanca movie...no
This ain't no fairy tale or fiction
This is truly
Ours for the eternity
They'll be no end to our love story
Baby...

Just when it seemed
Like all the odds
Were stacked against them
They came back stronger then before
Matter fact then some
Stronger then pride
Lookin' like them
Lookin' like her, lookin' like him
Stronger then hate
And the whole world too
Lookin' like me
Lookin' like you

Cause this isn't just another love story
Together we'll make history
I know because it's destiny
They'll be no end to our love story
And this ain't gon end up
Like that Casablanca movie...no
This ain't no fairy tale or fiction
This is truly
Ours for the eternity
They'll be no end to our love story
Baby...
Ay bay bay it won't end, won't end, won't end

When the music stopped playing Belle looked up into Gary’s eyes and saw her whole future there. She needed to talk to him. She wanted him to know how she felt and that they weren’t just meant for each other because she’s pregnant. She has truly fallen for Gary and needs to know Gary feels the same.

Chapter 19

That night Gary and Isabella cuddled on the couch in front of the fireplace. Gary had his arm around Belle’s shoulders and his other hand on her tummy. Isabella rested her head against his chest and sighed.

“What is it babe?” Gary asked.

“Honey we have to talk.” Belle said sitting up.

“About what?” Gary asked worried.

“I know you love me and I love you so much, but I’m scared. A commitment so big scares me. Gary I have to be sure this is where I’m suppose to be.” Belle said starring into Gary’s big blue cool eyes.

‘Oh Belle I don’t know what to say. I love you so much and I can promise you this is forever and I’ll never hurt you. Now all you have to do is trust me.” Gary said holding Isabella’s hand.

Isabella knew that was the one thing holding her back. She just didn’t know how to fix it. She wanted to trust him with all her heart, but she didn’t know how to tear down that wall that surrounded her heart. Isabella looked up at Gary and closed her eyes fearing that she would cry.

“Belle it’ll be ok. I know how hard it is to tear down that wall. I just want you to know I’m here for you.” Gary said and right then and there Belle’s wall turned into dust.

She cried and cried, but this time it wasn’t out of sadness rather happiness. She felt like all her worries were just lifted off her shoulders. The guys went to New York to perform on the Dick Clarks new years eve show. Destiny took Sara over to Belle’s to watch the guys and the show. Sara was getting better at pronouncing words and pulling herself up so she could walk.

‘Sara look it’s your daddy.” Belle said pointing Joe Don out on the TV.

“Dada!” Sara screamed smacking the TV with her little hands.

Destiny just smiled as she said, “ That little girl has that man wrapped around her little fingers.”

“I bet.” Isabella said thinking of how in the future it’ll be her daughter and son yelling at their daddy on TV.

‘So have you and Gary thought of any baby names?” Destiny asked as Sara plopped down on the floor with a blanket.

‘Well I haven’t thought of any girl names, but for a boy name Im really leaning towards Joey Scott.” Belle replied.

“Oh Joe Don would be so happy.” Destiny said smiling.

‘Well it’s only right.” Belle said.

Sara was contently watching the guys perform when she drifted off to sleep. Neither Belle or Destiny could stay up to watch the ball drop. The next day they guys came home. Belle and Destiny were waiting for them at the airport. When Joe Don stepped off their private plane Sara rushed towards him.

‘Hey baby girl. Did you miss daddy?” Joe Don asked picking her up.

“Hey sugar. I missed you.” Gary said pulling Belle close to him.

‘I miss you too.” Belle replied giving Gary a kiss.

Isabella pulled away from Gary and walked over to Jay.

“looks like some one could use a hug.” Belle said as Jay smiled.

‘You’re so sweet.” Jay stated as he hugged Belle.

January and February were months full of setting up baby rooms and throwing baby showers. So April started the waiting game. One morning Isabella woke up with all this unwanted energy. She walked out to the front porch and sat on the swing. It was a beautiful spring day outside. The sun was shining and flowers were blooming. Belle couldn’t stop thinking about how gorgeous it was outside when the most agonizing pain wash over her. It was like all of a sudden she was inundated with pain. When it subsided Isabella quickly went upstairs to wake Gary up. Going onto their bedroom another contraction hit Belle hard. She screamed and held onto their dresser. Gary jumped out of bed wide awake.

‘Belle what’s wrong/” Gary asked rushing towards her.

‘Gary the babies their coming, ow, their coming fast.” Belle said as another contraction rushed through Belle’s body.

Gary helped Belle to the car and raced to the hospital as fast as he could. The hospital was a packed house. It seemed like every baby in Nashville wanted to be born on the same day. Once Dr. Underwood got to Belle had been in labor for three hours.

“lets see what we got here.” He said as he put Belle’s legs in the stirrups.

“Well you are five centimeters dilated, but something’s not right.” Dr. Underwood said as he put her legs back down and got out an ultrasound machine.

Isabella’s mind was rushed with pain and worry. She began to get confused and shut her eyes tight. She could feel Gary rubbing arm and squeezing her hand, but right at that moment she didn’t want to be touched. She just wanted to know what was wrong with her babies. She just wanted to give birth to two beautiful, healthy babies and leave.

Chapter 20

“Gary what’s going on?’ Isabella asked scared to death as she grabbed Gary’s hand.

“I don’t know. I’m going to go ask the doctor. I’ll be back in a second I promise.” Gary said walking out into the hallway and catching Dr. Underwood talking to a nurse.

“I’m sorry to interrupt but in god’s name is going on?” Gary asked worried.

“Baby B has turned upside down. If Belle gives birth that way baby B wont be able to breath and Belle’s labor has progressed to the point where we cant correct it. So she’ll have to have a cesarean section.” The doctor said rushing to another patient.

When Gary walked back into Belle’s room she looked like she was asleep, but when Gary sat down she opened her eyes.

‘Honey I don’t want you to worry, but they want you to have a c-section.” Gary said as Belle took his hand.

“What? Why?” Belle asked frantically.

“The doctor said that one of the babies have flipped upside down and it would be hard for the baby to breath if you gave birth regularly.’ Gary said trying to explain the best he could.

“Gary I’m scared.” Belle said as tears streamed down her face in pain and confusion.

“Sugar I’m right here. I know you’re scared, but I promise everything will turn out to be fine.’ Gary replied leaning over to give Belle a soft kiss on her forehead.

A couple of hours later a nurse came in to give Belle anesthesia to numb her from the neck down. Belle sat up and leaned over Gary’s shoulders. When the nurse was done she helped Belle lay back down as the doctor came in to explain the procedure to Gary and Belle. Belle was wheeled to surgery while Gary put scrubs on. As soon as the doctors got the babies out they rushed them to the new born intensive care unit. Isabella was exhausted and fell asleep before she could see her darling angels. Gary walked into the waiting room where Jay, Kandy, Joe Don, Sara, and Destiny were waiting to hear at least some good news.

‘Gary how is she?” Destiny asked standing up.

“Well she’s exhausted, so now she’s sleeping.” Gary replied.

“Well what about the babies?” Joe Don asked holding a sleeping Sara in his arms.

‘I don’t know they rushed them off to the NIC-U.’ Gary said worried and on the verge of tears.

“Oh Gary they’ll be fine.” Destiny said giving him a hug.

‘Yeah man they’ll be ok you’ll see.” Jay said standing up and going over to Gary leaving Kandy alone.

‘Belle wanted you guys to know that we picked out the babies names. Joey Scott and Jessica Marie Vernon.” Gary said remembering the conversation he had with Isabella.

“Joe she said she named him Joey for you.” Gary said as everyone awed.

“Thanks.” Joe Don said speechless.

‘Don’t thank me man thank Belle.’ Gary said smiling.

Gary went back into Belle’s room. She was awake but physically fatigued. Gary sat beside her and held her hand.

‘Your amazing.’ Gary said kissing Belle’s hand.

“When can I see them?” Isabella asked sitting up on a couple of pillows and sore as ever.

‘When you’re well enough. Honey try to get some sleep I’m sure your tired.” Gary said as Belle laid her hand back gently and closed her eyes.

As Gary watched Belle sleeping he couldn’t stop thinking about his little miracles. He took a piece a paper out and started to write some thing.

I just walked down the street to the coffee shop
had to take a break
I’d been by her side for eighteen hours straight
I saw a flower growing in the middle of the sidewalk
pushing up through the concrete
like it was planted right there for me to see
the flashin’ lights, the honkin’ horns
all seemed to fade away
in the shadow of that hospital at 5:08
I saw God today

Chorus:
I’ve been to church
I’ve read the book
I know he’s here, but I don’t look
near as often as I should
Yeah, I know I should
His fingerprints are everywhere
I’d just slow down to stop and stare
opened my eyes and man I swear
I saw God today

I saw a couple walking by they were holding hands
Man, she had that glow
yeah I couldn’t help but notice she was starting to show
it stood there for a minute takin’ the sky
lost in that sunset
a splash of amber melted in the shades of red

Chorus

I got my face pressed up against the nursery glass
She’s sleeping like a rock
My name on her wrist wearing tiny pink socks
She’s got my nose, she’s got her mama’s eyes
My brand new baby girl
She’s a miracle
I saw God today

He began to sing it softly out loud. His life was changing for the better but he didn’t know if he was ready. The next day Gary carefully helped Belle into a wheelchair and wheeled her down to the NIC-U. Joey and Jessica were hooked up to ventilators and feeding tubes. It was all to much for Belle, she just couldn’t bear to see her babies hooked up to so many tubes, she began to cry.

“Baby they’re strong they’re going to be fine.” Gary whispered into Belle’s ear as she took her finger and rubbed Jessica’s little tummy.

“Don’t promise me some thing that’s not certain.” Belle replied watching Joey’s chest go up and down with each little breath.

Soon a nurse came in to catch them up on every thing.

“Hi I’m nurse Betty and I work in the NIC-U. Betty said shaking Gary and Belle’s hands.

‘Now both Joey and Jessica are underweight which is normal because they were a few weeks premature. That is also why they are hooked up to the ventilators and feeding tubes. Once they gain a few pounds all of this should work it self out, and then they can go home.” Betty explained.

“Are we aloud to hold them?’ Belle asked choking up.

“Yes you can just be careful of the wires and take them out of the incubator.” Betty replied.

Betty showed Isabella and Gary how to pick them up and hold them. She laid Jessica in Belle’s arms and Joey in Gary’s arms. Gary sat down beside Belle in a rocking chair the nurses had sat in the corner of the room.

‘My god Gary they’re so small.” Belle said taking her finger and tucking it into Jessica’s little fist.

“I know.” Gary replied more to himself as he starred down at his son. Joey opened his eyes and looked up at his father. That moment was so magical. Everyone told him he would make a great father and that a child’s love was incomparable. They were right Gary thought, as he placed his lips on Joey’s forehead. Jessica was peacefully sleeping in Belle’s arms. Belle was grateful that Jessica hadn’t woke up because she couldn’t look into that angel’s eyes and believe that every thing would be ok. Jessica looked so small, so precious. Belle had wondered what it was going to be like to be a mom, and now she knew. At times when your child’s hurting and you cant do a damn thing about it. You just want to switch places with them so badly. Your heart bust with so much love and hope for them. Soon Jessica’s eyes fluttered open as Belel thought oh no. Once she looked into Jessica’s eyes Belle knew everything was ok. Belle took her finger and traced Jessica’s face as Jessica tried to watch. Gary had rocked Joey back to sleep and lad him back in the incubator.

“They’re beautiful.” Gary said breaking the long silence.

“They’re our babies.” Belle said handing Gary Jessica as she wiped away unwanted tears from her eyes.

Belle had hoped and prayed for the next few days that her children would be ok and she could take them home so they could start their normal life as a family.

Chapter 21

The next Monday Belle was aloud to take her beautiful babies home. She was sore and tired almost every minute of the day, but when she finally got them to sleep and she looked down at them in their cribs it all seems worth it, every last drop. Jessica was doing a little better, but she was still sent home with a baby respirator for when her breaths became short and heavy. As for Joey he was a healthy baby boy. Little Sara was fascinated with the two of them. Every time Destiny brought her over she wanted to just look at them and ask tons of questions to Belle and Destiny.

“Yes you were that small.” Destiny replied when Sara asked if she looked like that.

“Why?” Sara asked sitting in front of Joey who was sitting in his baby swing.

“Well because like them you were a baby, and baby’s are small until they grow up.” Belle answered bringing Jessica back into the living room after she has woke up from her nap.

“I’m a big girl.” Sara said making Destiny and Isabella smile.

Sara was two, almost three, and she was growing up so fast. She loved Joe Don’s guitar, just like her daddy she wanted to play. Belle and Destiny often talked about how in only a short few years Sara gone from the infant in her life to a playful two year old who wanted into everything.

“So how are you and Gary?” Destiny asked as she held Jessica so Belle could sit down and rest.

“We’re good. Gary is a wonderful father. If you could just see him with those two little babies you would cry.” Belle said as Sara started to play peek-a-boo with Joey.

“And I’m sure he thinks you’re a terrific mom, but what about the wedding?” Destiny asked as Jessica wrapped her fingers around destiny’s thumb and tried to put it in her mouth.

Destiny smiled as Belle said, “ We are working on them sort of. Right now I think it’s about the two of them more than us, but that’s how it’s going to be. We will get married soon though I promise.” Isabella said as she laughed at Destiny, who was making a face of pure curiosity.

The next year Belle and Gary were getting married on June 14th. Since Isabella’s father had passed away long before she decided to get married, her uncle Danny walked her down the aisle. Her long white flowing wedding dressed magnified her beauty as Gary stood and watched her walking towards him. After her Danny gave her away Gary started with his wedding vows.

“ Baby you walked into my life when I was in a dark and scary place, but you turned it around to light and happiness. You make me smile when I feel like crying. You help me through tough times when I just feel like giving up. I want a life with you in it always. Lets create a world where we are totally free to love and grow just you and me. I want to lie in the grass right next to you and count the stars. Then talk to the man in the moon about this dream of ours with a wedding fit for a prince and his princess. But I’ve come to find we are just one heart with two different names. I’m so glad I get to spend the rest of my life with you because there is no one else in this either world that I would want to spend it with than you.” Gary finished as he put Belle’s ring on her finger.

Belle was speechless every thing she had wanted to say just slipped out of her mind as tears trickled down her face and her hands trembled as Gary held them.

She mangled to say, “ Gary I love you and I know you will never ever hurt me, and I trust you. There is nothing in this entire world that I would want to do today then marry you. I love you whole heartily and I need you.”

She slipped the ring on Gary’s finger as the preacher finished up the ceremony and they started walking back down the aisle. During the reception Gary and Isabella had the first dance of the night as Mr. and Mrs. Vernon. Belle laid her head on Gary’s shoulder as Jay and Joe Don started to play When Ever You Come Around originally by Vince Gill. This was her happy ending and she couldn’t of picture it any more perfect then it had turned out.
