Rabbit and Small Animal Rescue

News  - We are updating our available animals and have more than posted. Please email us at rasa.rescue@gmail.com if you have any questions or are looking for something that isn't listed.

Rabbit & Small Animal Rescue had their first birthday  on November 6, 2008.  In our first year of operation, we have been able to rescue over 200 animals and place 137 furries in permanent, loving homes where they are treated as family members.  These animals are alive, happy and healthy thanks to all the great adoptors and dedicated volunteers.  We are still in need of your donations so we can continuing what we do best.  Please click on "How you can help".....we accept PayPal -- this is where you send your tax-deductable donation -- it will only take a minute of your time and will help enable us to continue taking care of these poor homeless creatures.

Rabbit & Small Animal Rescue is proud to announce that we will be neutering all male guinea pigs (under the age of 3) so they can be paired up with females; we now have 4 of these fellows available for adoption.  It is our experience that male guinea pigs have a tendency to fight with each other and many males end up by themselves because of this.  By neutering males, we can place them with females where the chance of fighting at a later date is much less.  Our adopt fee for a neutered male is $40.00 which is substantially less then what we pay for the surgery, but it means that there will be fewer lonely male piggies in the future.

Rabbit & Small Animal Rescue has been a charitable partner with PETCO since it was founded on November 6, 2007.  PETCO Foundation has made monitary donations and has donated supplies.  We would like to thank them for all their support.  PETCO has Rabbit & Small Animal Rescue animals in store #1905 located at 35725 Warren Road between Wayne & Newberg in Westland.  If there is a specific adoptable furry that you would like to meet, email us at: rasa.rescue@gmail.com and we will do our best to have that animal in PETCO for you to meet.

October 2009:  We currently have no space to take in rabbits, but do have room for: guinea pigs, hamsters, or gerbils.  We have the following available for adoption: 41 rabbits (including 7 lionheads and a flemish giant), 1 guinea pig, 10 golden hamsters, 5 dwarf hamsters, 3 mice, 2 rats. Visit petfinder.com or click on the appropriate tab on this website to find out more specific information about the animals that are in our rescue.

We have space for:   hamsters and birds, but *Space fills up quickly, so we cannot guarantee that we will have room for every animal.  Please fill out our application, and we will see if we will be able to help you.  If you do not hear from us within 48 hours, please email us at: rasa.rescue.org.

 FOR RESCUE NEWS

Rabbit & Small Animal Rescue is a small no-kill volunteer rescue group that provides shelter and care for homeless, abandoned, abused and neglected pets that could no longer remain with their previous owners. Each animal is treated with respect and is provided a spacious cage while they are with Rabbit & Small Animal Rescue. We strive to educate the public about their pets and the plight of homeless animals. We support sterilization of rabbits and larger animals and responsible handling of our smaller pets. We screen all adopters to ensure safe, loving homes for our animals.

Pictured on this page to the left is Tawny, a 5 year old dutch that was surrendered to rescue when his owner moved and felt that the place they were going to was not big enough for the both of them.  Tawny is a sweet rabbit that would make a great lap bunny. Rabbits can live 8-12 years, so don't be hesitant to adopt an older rabbit like Tawny, they deserve great homes too, and if you don't want to make a 12 year commitment, Tawny and those like him could be a perfect fit into your family.  Visit Petfinder.com to read more about him and the other young and old wonderful pets that we have available for adoption.

If you are interested in adopting any of our rabbits, we ask that you fill out our adoption applican and take the Rabbit Quiz.  The quiz is not a pass or fail quiz, it will help us determine what information we need to give you before you adopt and take a rabbit home.
