Orb Of Sound
The Orb of Sound is a Random music generator.
The Orb produces different modes of sounds depending on the mood in your room. 2 of the modes are based on the key of C and follow a musical algorithm that gives melodies that sound surprisingly human, they are kind of mellow. The third mode is chaotic and all about the randomness of the orb, it is fast and does not follow a musical key.
The Orb has only one control, the on/off switch which is recessed into the bottom of the unit and is operated by a special wooden key(included). The light sensor is used on start-up to determine the mood and to seed the random number generation.
The unit outputs include a speaker which provides an 8-bit modulated kind of sound, and 3 bright LEDs. The white LED is the power indicator and is always on, the second amber LED indicates a positive or negative going melody trend and is a good indication the random number algorithm is working correctly. The third LED stays on for the length of the note and then off for the length of the rest.
The heart of the Orb is a picaxe micro-controller which runs a random number generator the uses a 10bit light value to continuously seed the variables.
This is a fun little device that makes noises and puts on a pretty good light show.
The base plate is made from wood and polished with beeswax. The dome is made from plastic.
