1. Who does this guy think he is?

JIM is a schtick - a fictional character made up for the common entertainment of the Shark Tank regulars. "He" represents the stereotypical pointy-haired boss, the bane of the technical "pilot fish". Through satire and characature he embodies the worst aspects of every boss, and every management archetype. His postings are generally amusing to most, and sometimes outright hysterical. Unfortunately, not everyone who frequents the Shark Tank understands and/or appreciates the humor behind JIM.

2. What's the deal with the bad spelling and all caps?

It's part of the personna. Although JIM is authoritarian, he is utterly clueless in most regards. This results in his inability to use spellcheck or to figure out how to turn off caps lock, or even to recognize these errors, as it is doubtful that he proof reads what he types. Frequently the misspellings are an additional source of humour, as subtle jokes or imagery are sometimes hidden within them.

3. Why do some people find this stuff funny?

Honestly? Because it is. If you see the humor in slapstick, and aren't too highbrow for the three stooges, you'll probably like JIM too once you get used to him.

4. Where can I learn more about JIM?

5. I don't like JIM, and don't think he's funny. Why can't he just go away?

Because we don't want him to. And by "we" I mean the vast majority of the regular readers of the Shark Tank blog. JIM has been around since late 2007, and has weathered many, many complaint storms by (mostly anonymous) whiners who don't like him. If you don't like JIM, don't get JIM, and don't think he's funny, skip over those posts. They're easy enough to spot. If you don't think that that is adequate and you want JIM censored, may I suggest that you find somewhere else to expend your angst? There are many folks over at the Shark Bait site that are similiarly uptight - perhaps you'll fit in better over there. Despite an unfortunate belief by some, Shark Tank is supposed to be humorous. Most of us come to ST for our daily chuckle, and JIM's posts generally add to, not detract from, the experience.
