Well, this is the place to find that information. Listed below and on the next few pages is a complete roster of every player who has ever played for the Buffalo Sabres of the NHL. I have also listed everyone in alphabetical order to make it easier to find a certain player. It will be updated as new players join or depart the Sabres. 1970-71

Gilbert Perrault: 1970-86: Drafted first overall in 1970 draft; retired at the end of the 1985-86 season, came out of retirement to play 20 games in 1986-87 season for better pension.

Phil Goyette
: 1970-72: Drafted from St. Louis in expansion draft. Traded to Rangers after playing 37 games in 1971-72 season in exchange for cash.

Gary Meehan
: 1970-74: Drafted from Philadelphia in expansion draft. Traded to Vancouver after 3 games in 1974-75 along with Mike Robitaille in exchange for Jocelyn Guevremont and Bryan McSheffrey.

Don Marshall
: 1970-71: Drafted from Rangers in expansion draft. Claimed by Leafs before 1971-72 season.

Steve Atkinson
: 1970-74: Claimed off waivers from St. Louis. Claimed by Capitals in 1974 expansion draft.

Eddie Shack
: 1970-72: Acquired from L.A. Kings during 1970-71 season along with Dick Duff for Mike McMahon Jr. Traded to Penguins after 50 games in 1971-72 season in exchange for Rene Robert.

Paul Andrea
:1970-71: Acquired from California Golden Seals in November 1970 off waivers . Jumped to WHA.

Larry Keenan
: 1970-72: Acquired from St. Louis in November 1970, traded to Philadelphia during 1971 -72 season for Larry Mickey.

Al Hamilton
: 1970-72: Drafted from Rangers in expansion draft, played in WHA league after 1971-72 season.

Doug Barrie
: 1970-71: Drafted from Pittsburgh in expansion draft, traded with prospect Mike Keeler for Mike Byers and Larry Hillman in December 1971.

Ron Anderson: 1970-72: Acquired in a trade from St. Louis in exchange for Craig Cameron, finished 1971-72 season in minors, jumped to WHA. On the ice for the first face-off in Sabres history, and first Sabre to score a shorthanded goal.

Dick Duff
: 1970-71: Acquired from Kings along with Eddie Shack for Mike McMahon Jr. Retired after 8 games in 1971-1972 season.

Floyd Smith
: 1970-71: Drafted from Leafs in the expansion draft, retired after 6 games in 1971-72 season. Went on to coach Sabres for 3 years.

Reg Fleming
: 1970-71: Drafted from Flyers in the expansion draft, played in minors following 1970-71 season.

Cliff Schmautz
: 1970-71: Acquired in Intra-League Draft from Portland of the WHL. Placed on waivers and picked up by Flyers in December 1970.

Jim Watson
: 1970-72: Drafted from Red Wings in the expansion draft, joined WHA after 1971-72 season.

Skip Krake
: 1970-71: Drafted from Kings in the expansion draft, moved to WHL after 1970-71 season.

Kevin O’Shea
: 1970-1972: Transferred from the WHL, claimed off waivers by the Blues during the 1971-72 season.

Tracy Pratt
: 1970-73: Drafted from the Penguins in the expansion draft, traded in December 1973 to Vancouver along with John Gould in exchange for Jerry Korab.

Jean-Guy Talbot: 1970-71: Acquired from the St. Louis Blues soon after the start of the 1970-71 season, retired at the end of the season.

Randy Wyrozub
: 1970-74: Drafted 43rd overall in the 1970 NHL Amateur Draft, picked by Washington in the 1974 expansion draft but jumped to the WHA.

Francois Lacombe
: 1970-71: Drafted from Montreal in the expansion draft, played one game, spent the rest in minor league teams before jumping to the WHA in 1972.

Dave Dryden
: 1970-74: Drafted from Pittsburgh in the expansion draft. His brother, Ken Dryden was also a goalie, and on March 20, 1971, was the first time two brother goalies played against each other. He jumped to the WHA after the 1973-74 season.

Terry Ball
: 1970-72: Acquired from Pittsburgh for Jean-Guy Lagace, jumped to the WHA after the 1971-72 season.

Paul Terbenche
: 1970-74: Drafted from Chicago in the expansion draft, jumped to the WHA after the 1973-74 season.

Jean-Guy Lagace
: 1970-71: Drafted from Pittsburgh in the expansion draft, traded back to Pittsburgh in January 1971 for Terry Ball.

Butch Deadmarsh: 1970-73: Drafted 15th overall in 1970 NHL Amateur Draft, traded to Atlanta during the 1972-73 season in exchange for Norm Gratton.

Mike McMahon Jr.
: 1970-71: Drafted from Pittsburgh in the expansion draft, traded to L.A. Kings for Eddie Shack and Dick Duff.

Bill Inglis
: 1970-71: Drafted from Kings in expansion draft, played for 14 games, spent most time in minors, retired in 1978, eventually hired as head coach of Sabres for one year.

Joe Daley
: 1970-71: Drafted from Pittsburgh in expansion draft off waivers, traded to Red Wings during off-season for Don Luce and Mike Robitaille.

Brian Perry
: 1970-71: Drafted from Oakland Seals in expansion draft, played one game, eventually jumped to WHA.

Brian McDonald
: 1970-71: Picked from WHL, eventually joins WHA.

Hap Myers:
1970-1971: Acquired from Detroit in the expansion draft, played in AHL for three years before he retired.

Roger Crozier
: 1970-76: Acquired in a trade from Detroit in exchange for Tom Webster, traded to Washington after 1975-76 season for cash.

1971-72
Rick Martin: 1971-81: Drafted 5th overall in 1971 NHL Amateur Draft, traded to Kings in March 1981 after a knee injury.

Rene Robert
: 1971-79: Acquired from Pittsburgh in return for Eddie Shack, traded to Colorado Rockies after 1978-79 season in return for John Van Boxmeer.

Mike Byers
: 1971-72: Traded from the Kings with  Larry Hillman for Doug Barrie and Mike Keeler. Jumped to the WHA after the 1971-1972 season.

Jim Lorentz
: 1971-78: Acquired in a trade from N.Y. Rangers in exchange for a second round pick (Larry Sacharuck) in the 1972 NHL Amateur Draft, called “batman” after killing a bat during a game, retired in 1978.

Chris Evans
: 1971-72: Acquired from minor league, traded to St. Louis for George Morrison and second round pick in 1972 draft (Larry Carriere).

Don Luce
: 1971-81: Acquired from Detroit along with Mike Robitaille for Joe Daley in 1971, traded to Kings in 1981 in exchange for the Kings' 6th round pick (Jacob Gustavsson) in the 1982 Entry Draft, went to Toronto soon after, and retired in 1982.

Danny Lawson
: 1971-72: Claimed from Minnesota in Intra-League draft in 1971, jumped to WHA after 1971-72 season.

Craig Ramsey
: 1971-85: Drafted 19th overall in 1971 NHL Amateur Draft, retired in 1985.

Larry Hillman
: 1971-73: Acquired in a trade from the Kings along with Mike Byers in exchange for Doug Barrie and Mike Keeler, jumped to WHA after 1972-73 season.

Mike Robitaille
: 1971-74: Acquired from Detroit with Don Luce in exchange for Joe Daley, Traded to Vancouver in October 1974 with Gerry Meehan for Jocelyn Guevremont and Bryan McSheffrey.

Larry Mickey
: 1971-75: Acquired from Philadelphia for Larry Keenen, bothered by injuries, sits out after 1974-75 season.

Rod Zaine
: 1971-72: Acquired from Penguins in Intra-League Draft, claimed by Atlanta in 1972 expansion draft, but instead jumped to WHA.

Ray McKay
: 1971-73: Acquired from Chicago in Intra-League Draft in 1971, claimed by California Golden Seals in the Intra-League Draft in 1973.

John Gould
: 1971-73, 79-80: Signed from the minors, traded with Tracy Pratt to Vancouver for Jerry Korab. Re-acquired from Edmonton in exchange for Alex Tidey, retired at the end of the season.

1972-73
Hugh Harris: 1972-73: signed from the minors, jumped to the WHA after one season.

Norm Gratton
: 1972-75: Acquired from Atlanta for Butch Deadmarsh, traded along with a 3rd round draft pick (Ron Zanussi) in the 1976 NHL Amateur Draft to the Minnesota North Stars for Fred Stanfield.

Jim Schoenfeld
: 1972-81, 84-85: Selected 5th overall in 1972 Entry Draft, Traded with Danny Gare and Derek Smith to Detroit for Mike Foligno, Dale McCourt and Brent Peterson in December 1981. Re-signed for the 1984-85 season and then retired. Head coach for 1985-86 season.

Tim Horton:
1972-74: Drafted in an Intra-League Draft in 1972 from Pittsburgh, killed in a car accident on February 21, 1974 on his way back to Buffalo after a game in Toronto.

Larry Carriere
: 1972-75, 78: Drafted 25th overall in 1972 Entry Draft, traded to Atlanta for a first round draft pick (which later went to Washington for Greg Carroll) and cash for Jacques Richard. Signed from Kings and played 9 games before retiring.

Doug Rombough
: 1972-74: Drafted 97th overall in 1970 Amateur Draft, traded to Islanders for Brian Spencer.

Rick Dudley
: 1972-75, 79-81: Signed to the minors in 1971, jumped to WHA after 1974-75 season. Re-acquired in a trade in Feb 1979 from the Cincinnati Stingers in exchange for future considerations, claimed off waivers by Winnipeg. Head Coach of the Sabres from 1989-92.

Norm “Rocky” Farr
: 1972-75: Acquired from Montreal’s minor league system in 1970, sent back to minors for 1975-76 season and retired.

Ron Busniuk
: 1972-74: Acquired in summer of 1972 for cash from Montreal, claimed by Detroit in Intra-League Draft but jumped to WHA.

Bob Richer
: 1972-73: Drafted 47th overall in 1971 Amateur Draft, played three games, returned to minors the following season before retiring.

Jerry Korab: 1973-80, 83-85: Acquired in a trade from Vancouver in exchange for Tracy Pratt and John Gould, traded to the Kings in March 1980 for 1st round draft pick in 1982 Draft. Re-acquired from L.A. from waivers, retired in 1985.

Brian Spencer
: 1974-77: Acquired in a trade with N.Y. Islanders for Doug Rombough, traded to Pittsburgh after 1976-77 season in exchange for Ron Schock.

Peter McNab
: 1973-76: Drafted 85th overall in 1972 Amateur Draft, signed as free agent by Boston after 1975-76 season.

Real Lemieux
: 1973-74: Acquired from N.Y. Rangers after Rick Martin got hurt, contract terminated before 1974-75 season and retired, died October 1975 from blood clot two months before his 31st birthday.

Bill Hajt
: 1973-87: Drafted 33rd overall in 1971 Amateur Draft, retired after 1986-87 season.

Gary Bromley
: 1973-76: signed as free agent, jumped to WHA after 1975-76 season.

Joe Noris: 1973-74: claimed in Intra-League Draft in 1973, played 18 games, spent 1974-75 season in minors then jumped to WHA.

Danny Gare: 1974-81: Drafted 29th overall in 1974 Amateur Draft, traded to Red Wings half-way through 1981-82 season along with Jim Schoenfeld and Derek Smith for Mike Foligno, Dale McCourt and Brent Peterson.

Fred Stanfield
: 1975-78: Acquired from Minnesota in January 1975 for Norm Gratton and a 1976 third round draft pick (Ron Zanussi), didn’t make 1978-79 roster, so he played in minors and retired after that season.

Jocelyn Guevremont
: 1974-79: Acquired from Vancouver along with Bryan McSheffrey for Gerry Meehan and Mike Robitaille, traded to the Rangers in 1979 in exchange for future considerations.

Lee Fogolin
: 1974-79, 87: Drafted 11th overall in 1974 Amateur Draft, selected by Edmonton in 1979 expansion draft. Acquired back from Edmonton in a trade along with Mark Napier late in 1986-87 season in exchange for Normand Lacombe, Wayne Van Dorp and future considerations and only played 9 more games before retiring.

Paul McIntosh
: 1974-76: Drafted 65th overall in 1974 Amateur Draft, ended up back in minors before retiring.

Bryan McSheffrey
: 1974-75: Acquired along with Jocelyn Guevremont from Vancouver for Gerry Meehan and Mike Robitaille, appeared in just three games before finishing season in minors. Jumped to NAHAL the following season.

Gerry Desjardins: 1974-78: Acquired his rights from the Islanders for defenseman Gary Lariviere, suffered eye injury late in 1976-77 season and only played three games in 1977-78 season before retiring.

Morris Titanic:
1974-76: Drafted 12th overall in 1973 Amateur Draft, played a few more years in minors before retiring.

Michel Deziel
: 1975: Drafted 47th overall in 1974 Amateur Draft, appeared in one playoff game and joins 24 other players whose only NHL action came in the playoffs, spent rest of career in minors.

Jacques Richard: 1975-79: Acquired from Atlanta, spent the 1977-78 season in the minors, released after the 1978-79 season.

Gary McAdam
: 1975-79, 82-83: Drafted 53rd overall in 1975 Amateur Draft, traded to Pittsburgh in February 1979 for Dave “The Hammer” Scultz, re-signed in Sep 1982, played in 4 games, spent most of the season in Rochester, signed with New Jersey in Aug 1983.

Terry Martin
: 1975-79: Drafted 44th overall in the 1975 Amateur Draft, claimed by the Quebec Nordiques in the 1979 expansion draft.

Ken Breitenbach
: 1975-79: Drafted 35th overall in the 1975 Amateur Draft, leg injury prevented him from playing entire 1977-78 season, retired after 1978-79 season.

Al Smith
: 1975-77: Acquired from the WHA, walked out on the team after not being allowed to play when Desjardins went out with an injury and went back to the WHA for the next season.

Derek Smith
: 1975-81 Drafted 168th overall in 1974 Amateur Draft, traded along with Danny Gare and Jim Schoenfeld to Detroit in December 1981 for Mke Foligno, Dale McCourt and Brent Peterson.

1976-77
Andre Savard: 1976-83: Signed as a free agent in a trade for the rights to Peter McNab, traded to Quebec along with Tony McKegney, Jean-Francois Sauve and a 3rd  round choice (Iiro Jarvi) in the 1983 Entry Draft for Real Cloutier and a 1st round choice (Adam Creighton) in the 1983 Entry Draft.

Jowl Kowal
: 1976-78: Drafted 33rd overall in the 1976 Amateur Draft, played in minors after 1977-78 season and retired in 1981.

Don Edwards
: 1976-82: Drafted 89th overall in 1975 Amateur Draft, traded in May of 1982 along with Richie Dunn and a 2nd round pick (Richard Kromm) in 1982 Entry Draft to Calgary in exchange for a 1st round pick (Paul Cyr) in 1982 Entry Draft, 2nd round pick (Jens Johansson) in 1982 Entry Draft and a 2nd round pick (John Tucker) in 1983 Entry Draft.

Alex Tidey
: 1976-78: Drafted 143rd overall in 1975 Amateur Draft, played 4 games between two seasons and spent the rest of the time in the minors, traded to Edmonton early in the 1979-80 season for John Gould.

Bob Sauve: 1976-82, 82-85: Drafted 17th overall in 1975 Amateur Draft, traded during 1981-82 season to the Red Wings but after playing 41 games, couldn’t reach a deal, so he became a free agent and resigned with Buffalo during the off season. Traded to the Blackhawks in exchange for 3rd pick (Kevin Kerr) in the 1986 Entry Draft after the 1984-85 season.

1977-78
Ric Seiling: 1977-86: Drafted 14th overall in 1977 Amateur Draft, traded to Detroit in exchange for future considerations.

Ron Schock
: 1977-78: Acquired from Pittsburgh in a trade, spent the next two seasons after 1977-78 with the minors before retiring.

Richie Dunn
: 1977-82, 85-89: Invited to training camp in 1977 and signed as a free agent, traded to Calgary along with Don Edwards and a 2nd round pick (Richard Kromm) in the 1982 Entry Draft in exchange for 1st round pick (Paul Cyr) in 1982 Entry Draft, 2nd round pick (Jens Johansson) in 1982 Entry Draft and a 2nd round pick (John Tucker) in 1983 Entry Draft, Re-signed as free agent in July 1985, split next four years between Buffalo and minors team in Rochester, spent 1989-90 season all in Rochester before retiring.

Bill Stewart
: 1977-79: Drafted 68th overall in 1977 Amateur Draft, spent the following two seasons after 1978-79 in the minors before being traded to St. Louis in exchange for Bob Hess and a 4th round pick (Anders Wikberg) in the 1981 Entry Draft.

Wayne Ramsey: 1977-78: Drafted 104th overall in 1977 Amateur Draft, plays 2 games, spent rest of career in minors.

1978-79
Tony McKegney: 1978-83: Drafted 32nd overall in 1978 Amateur Draft, traded to Quebec along with Andre Savard, Jean Francois Sauve and a third round draft pick (Iiro Jarvi) in the 1983 Entry Draft for Real Cloutier and a first round draft pick (Adam Creighton) in the 1983 Entry Draft.

Dave Schultz
: 1979-80: Acquired from Pittsburgh in February 1979 for Gary McAdam, retired after 1979-80 season.

Mike Boland
: 1978-79: Signed as free agent in the summer of 1978, stayed in minors after 1978-79 season until he retired in 1984.

Larry Playfair
: 1978-86, 88-90: Drafted 13th overall in 1978 Amateur Draft, traded to the Kings in January 1986 along with Sean McKenna and Ken Baumgartner in exchange for Brian Engblom and Doug Smith, re-acquired in a trade from L.A. in exchange for a 9th round pick (Jim Giacin) in the 1989 Entry Draft not long into the 1988-89 season and only played 4 games in the 1989-90 season due to a ruptured disk in his back.

Randy Ireland
: 1978-79: Drafted 82nd overall in 1978 Amateur Draft, played in 2 games, but was left in the minors until he retired in 1983.

1979-80
John Van Boxmeer: 1979-83: Acquired from the Colorado Rockies for Rene Robert, picked up by Quebec in the waiver draft in October 1983.

Lindy Ruff
: 1979-89: Drafted 32nd overall in 1979 Entry Draft, traded to the Rangers for a 5th round draft pick (Richard Smehlik) in the 1990 Entry Draft. He became the Head Coach of the Sabres in 1997 and is currently in his tenth year as Head Coach.

Bob Mongrain
: 1979-85: signed as a free agent, split the seasons between Rochester and Buffalo, stayed in Rochester for all of the 1982-83 and 1983-84 seasons (except one playoff game), played 8 games during 1984-85 season, signed with the Kings the following year.

Rob McClanahan
: 1979-81: Drafted 49th overall in 1978 Amateur Draft, picked up off waivers by Hartford prior to 1981-82 season.

Mike Ramsey: 1979-93: Drafted 11th overall in 1979 Entry Draft, traded to Pittsburgh late in the 1992-93 season for Bob Errey.
