Aftercare for Rapid Opiate Detox
Detox is only the first step on the road to recovery. Once
a patient has been successufully detoxed off of the opaite
drugs, it is important to understand your options for follow-up
care.
Finding the right treatment program involves careful consideration
of such things as the setting, length of care, philosophical
approach and the needs of the patient. Aftercare programs
may include inpatient, residential, outpatient, sober living
and/or short-stay options.
Inpatient/Residential
The difference between inpatient and residential treatment
is that inpatient services are provided by a licensed hospital,
while residential programs usually do not meet the same rigorous
standards of medical care.
Services often include both individual and group counseling,
structured physical activities, nutritional counseling, stress
reduction, holistic approaches such as yoga, acupuncture and
neurofeedback, vocational training, relapse prevention support,
social skills training, educational services and 12-step substance
abuse programs.
Sober Living
Alcohol- and drug- free houses are not required to be licensed
nor are they eligible for licensure. By definition, they do
not provide alcohol or drug recovery or treatment services
and are, therefore, not subject to regulation or oversight
by the State Department of Alcohol and Drug Programs.
Residents are free to organize and participate in self help
meetings or any other activity that helps them maintain sobriety.
The house or its residents do not and cannot provide any treatment,
recovery, or detoxification services. Persons typically become
residents of an alcohol- and drug- free house after being
in a licensed non medical residential alcohol or other drug
recovery or treatment facility. However, participation in
a licensed facility is not necessarily a prerequisite for
residency.
Outpatient Treatment
An outpatient drug rehab is a program designed to provide
long-term abstinence from drugs. Outpatient drug rehab programs
use a broad verity of techniques. These techniques include
a wide range of approaches including problem-solving groups,
specialized therapies such as insight-oriented psychotherapy,
cognitive-behavioral therapy, and 12-step programs. Similar
to other drug rehabs, the individual may stay in the program
for several months or longer. Those who attend an outpatient
drug rehab do not live at the drug rehab as they would an
inpatient drug rehab.
