Thank
you, Laura. I'm not sure what to make of it, but thanks!
Melissa has been kind enough to note to me that she's seen an American tour/production in 1999 or 2000 where they did both “Growltiger's Last Stand” and “The Awful Battle of the Pekes and the Pollicles”! Now if only current tours would catch on on this idea ...
I didn't realize I had done this until my brother pointed it out to me. For Christmas last year, one of my friends, knowing how much I love felines, gave me a pad of paper with cats all around it. I am quite fond of said pad of paper, and I write Cats notes on it and things and post them on the wall next to my computer. One of my notes (which I do find myself referring to quite often) is a list of all the cats' names, including those who don't appear in every show (like George, Carbuckety, Sillabub, etc.). Well, this pad of paper has “things to do” emblazoned across the top of every sheet, and it didn't occur to me until my brother pointed it out that I have scheduled to “do” Alonzo, Admetus, and everybody else! See what I mean: I took a picture of it.
Remember
that play I said I was in, All My Sons?
Well, in the script, I swear there was a reference to Cats,
or at least Old Possum's Book of Practical Cats. And
maybe I was the only one in the cast to think so, but I sure did
think it was funny! It goes a bit like this (paraphrased):
CHRIS:
I'm practical now, and you made me that way.
MOTHER: But you have
to be!
CHRIS: The cats in that alley are practical!
It's in a
big moment of emotion, too, so I had to pretend I was crying every
time he said it. But it was so funny...!
An amusing quiz I cut out of the Sunday paper. I hope you get at least three points! click here
For
the first time ever: typos from other fandoms
“Oh,
Pookie, Roger's making fun of me!” she wailed, clinging onto
the poor bespeckled blond. (I'm
pretty sure that's a typo...I beleive she meant 'bespectacled'. How
could Mark be bespeckled, after all? He doesn't have dots on him!
Poor Marky!)
"And
when we brought him to a strip club?" Roger almost choked on
his beer. "And he got so drunk, he started to jump on stage
with the stripers!" (Yeah...I
really don't know what a striper is...then again Mark's scarf is
striped, isn't it...)

Sort
of a sneak preview: Statistical
Cats
I'm trying to get up a new
mini-site for Randomninity. This is going to be a site of the
standard staples that most Cats sites have that I currently don't,
such as character bios and things, just so other webmasters can't
say, “Hey, I have something that you don't! Ha!”. That,
and I just wanted an excuse to make a new site layout and use the
name “Statistical Cats.” The only thing online right now
is the homepage, but stay tuned for updates to this.
This may sound uninteresting, but
I'm really thrilled about it: my school's choir (which I'm a member
of) is putting on a little concert of Andrew Lloyd Webber
compositions, which of course includes Cats!
And maybe ... well, only maybe ... the possibility exists that I
might get a solo in it! I don't know, but I'll be sure to keep you
posted!
Update 10/28: We sure did! I did have a solo, though it
was in Joseph and the Technicolor Dream Coat.
But it was very fun anyway. We sang all of “Mr. Mistoffelees,”
“Memory,” and “Gus: The Theater Cat.” We
also did a Phantom
anthology. It was teh coolness. ^_^
New! Live! Alvin and the Chipmunks do Cats!! hear a recording! (but do hit “save as” instead of “open,” to save my web space)
Hey, lookie here! Cats in the Smithsonian. Yes, Cats is so deserving of such an honor. ^_^
All
right, I've got another “Do they do that in every show?”
for you. In the performance I saw, while Demeter sang her parts of
“Macavity,” Alonzo was behind her, dancing almost the
same moves right along with her. He was really good, too! He also
danced along with the other queens (in the part where they're in the
background of Dem and Bomba). Okay, do they do that in every show?
(If they do, I sure wish they'd done it in the video! Alonzo looked
really ... lithe ...)
Aerin's
response: “It's been done that way every time I've seen the
Troika tour, and the one time I saw the Fourth National, too. So my
guess is that it depends on production, but it's done in every show
of the US Tours. Probably most of the other American productions,
too.”
Let
me mention that anyone who has questions about CATS that they're too
embarrassed to ask can contact me, and I'll post them anonymously
here, so they can find the answers they've been searching for.
I'll
start off the bidding myself: When we went and saw the show live for
the first time, during Rumpleteazer's line in “Prologue,”
it sounded like she was having problems with her microphone. It was
only her, too. This would indicate to me that each cat has a small
microphone on their person, so they can always be heard. Well, a
wireless mic like that would usually have a mic box to transmit the
sound to the speakers. Though the part that picks up the sound could
conceivably be hidden in a wig, I'm pretty sure it's safe to say
that a bulging mic box would be obvious to an audience, so does
anyone know how they handle that?
Chimalmaht's response: Well,
what I know about the microphones is that they are on a little chest
pack type thing. So I've always assumed that they shoulder furs were
there to kind of cover that up. Victoria, Pouncival, and
Tumblebrutus don't usually have them though, because even with the
furries, you would apparently be able to see the mic through Vikki's
white fur, and Pounce and Tumble do too many flips or something
along those lines. (thanks, Chi! >^^.^^<)
Here's
another one: when we saw the show, during “The Rum Tum
Tugger,” the only time I saw Mistoffelees was for a brief
moment when he said his line. What was weirder: he was still wearing
his beetle tap-dance costume. He said the line, and walked right
back off-stage. Would I be right in assuming he had problems getting
his costume off, or do they do that in every show?
(According to
Arakasema, no, they don't.)
(Aerin's response [9/24/05]: The same
thing happened when I saw the show yesterday. Misto was no where to
be seen during the Rum Tum Tugger, but he popped out, still in his
beetle costume, to say his line and then immediately disappeared
again. Maybe it's a costume malfunction, maybe it happens at every
show (why? I have no idea).)
Is
anyone else having this problem? My dvd copy of the Cats video has
started omitting certain sound effects: most notably every other
bark and Tugger's bagpiping in “The Awful Battle,” as
well as the electric guitar in “The Rum Tum Tugger.” Is
anyone else having this problem, and better yet, does anyone know
how I can fix it?
Re from Krissy: Apparently, the problem is
because I have my computer set to stereo, and you only hear the
other sound effects in Suround Sound. Well, thanks, though I'm not
sure if that's quite right. I swear I used to be able to hear
them...does anyone else have any other ideas, or can someone confirm
what Krissy told me?
Ha! I figured
it out! It depends on the program you use to run the video. Windows
Media Player does a fine job playing all the sound effects, but the
program I use for screenshots (WinDVD 6) apparently cannot handle
the surround sound! When I switched I must not have noticed...
thanks to everyone who responded.
Yay!!! CATS is coming
to a city near me! Yes, on May 4, Jessedandle, Eclectica, and I are
all going to go see Cats live!!!!!!! I'll be sure to give a whole
summary of the whole thing, but goshdarnit, I'm so excited!!!
5/7:
OMG it was the best thing ever! We're working on a little
script-format thingy talking all about it, so stay tuned!
I'm
currently on a hunt of sorts for the Cats soundtrack in Spanish.
Anyone know where I can find it? Or even just a few of the songs?
I'm hoping to download it somewhere, but if anyone knows of a
reputable site that's selling it, I'd appreciate a link.
Thanx.
(Thanks to Lyra for providing a few of the songs for me!
