RAINWORTH INCINERATOR.................
RAINWORTHS BURNING ISSUE.
RAINWORTH IS UNDER THREAT FROM INCINERATION.
RAINWORTH, THE WASTE BURNING
VILLAGE OF THE EAST MIDLANDS
Why do they want to build an incinerator On a site surrounded by Heathland, protected by LNR, SSSI, and SINC status, next to Rainworth Water Stream and Over the Sherwood Sandstone Aquifer ! On land which has a Restoration condition on it !,which clearly states it must be returned to heathland and woodland !
Now that Veolia have submitted a planning application and operators licence application...the real battle starts, please send Objection letters to NCC, Environment Agency and Newark Council stating the reasons Rainworth does not want an Incinerator.
Why have they applied for a licence to BURN 210,000 tons of waste when we have been asssured many times it would be 180,000 tons ? and where is this waste coming from, we already know there was not enough waste to keep the incinerator burning so what will they burn.
During public consultations no mention has been made about processing bottom ash on site ........now we face a facility to process the poisonous bottom ash from this site and all over the U.K.
See my letters of objections to the Planning Application, The operators Licence, and to Newark and Sherwood District Council ( consultees)
Dr. Dick Van Steenis, a Medical Doctor, Scientist and expert on the health effects of Incineration, gave a presentation to almost 200 people at Rainworth Village Hall on Wednesday 12.03.08, on the Health Effects of Incineration and what the residents of Rainworth might expect if the dreaded Incinerator goes ahead. His research shows that toxic emissions can have a serious effect on human health including Cancer, Asthma, Depression, damage to unborn babies, and can affect Childrens health.
His research shows that very small particles of dust 1-2 microns can cause major health problems, and the Incinerator`s filters will NOT filter these effectively. Therefore we will be continuously breathing in these toxic particles, which get into our lungs and can never be removed !
Villages including Farnsfield, Bilsthorpe, Blidworth, Ravenshead, Edwinstowe, Clipstone, and many surrounding Villages will be affected.
He also recommended alternative methods of waste disposal which are more efficient and do not affect your health.
The general mood of the meeting, I thought was one of shock, for those who didn`t realise exactly what they would be getting if this proposal goes ahead.
For those who are interested the meeting was recorded and is available on DVD, which could be useful for those who attended, as there was a lot to take in all in one go. For those who didn`t attend it will give them a feel of what the meeting was about and may help them make an informed decision on whether they want an Incinerator in our Village.
Professor David Bellamy, worldwide Environmental campaigner, joins the fight to save Rainworth Heath from Veolia`s Incinerator
With the County Council under pressure to reduce Landfill their solution in Nottinghamshire is INCINERATION.
The plan is to build a 210,000 tonne INCINERATOR on the former Colliery site in the village of Rainworth,
INCINERATION of waste is presented as an efficient, clean and modern way to process waste that is not suitable for Recycling or Composting. My understanding of this process based on recent research is quite different.
Research published on the Internet and other sources reveal INCINERATION is NOT the answer to the Waste problem, in fact .....
INCINERATION destroys precious re-usable or re-cyclable materials which increases depletion of natural resources.
INCINERATION Threatens re-cycling and does NOT encourage waste minimisation.
INCINERATION Harms the environment.
INCINERATION Blights the surrounding community and countryside
INCINERATION Does not destroy the waste totally, it converts approx a third of it into a TOXIC ASH which has to be transported and disposed of, usually in Landfill.
INCINERATION produces a Toxic Gas which is released into the atmosphere.
INCINERATION has been linked to several fatal illnesses
INCINERATION is poorly Regulated and Tested and has led to numerous reported breaches of safety levels !
The proposed Incinerator at Rainworth will burn 210,000 tonnes of waste per year, it will burn 24 hours a day, 7 days a week, every week !
It will burn Household and Shop Waste initialy with possible expansion for Industrial, Commercial or even Clinical Waste in the future, AND MAY EVEN PROCESS "POISONOUS ASH" FROM OTHER INCINERATORS !!
It will greatly increase the amount road traffic using the Bypass road, approximately 250 lorries per day, into the village and 250 a day out of the village ! plus lorries disposing of the ash.and associsated service vehicles.
It will be situated next to Heathland which is a designated Nature Reserve, SSSI (site of special scientific interest) and SINC (Site of importance for Nature Conservation ) it`s poisonous gases could damage rare species of Birds, Insects and flora. It is in close proximity to Housing , Schools, Recreation, Local commerce, Tourist Sites, and The Village Centre !
There will be little or NO benefit to the residents of Rainworth, the Electricity produced will be of little benefit to Local residents,NO heat at all will be used, therefore it does not qualify as a Energy from waste facility, it is purely a waste Incinerator ! it will create very few jobs for Locals and is unlikely to benefit Local economy in the long term.
Rainworth is known for very little....The Black Panther and now The Incinerator......Rainworth deserves better than this !
The County Council should be developing a more effective re-cycling program and NOT building these Monstrosities in Rural Villages, but on Industrial estates or heavy industrial areas, and making international companies like Veolia rich at OUR expense.
RAINWORTH DOES NOT WANT INCINERATORS SIMILAR TO THOSE ON THE PHOTOGRAPHS AT SHEFFIELD, NOTTINGHAM AND COVENTRY !
This site is dedicated to informing locals and anyone interested in the fight against an Incinerator, in a simple and interesting format, with none of the annoying abreviations eg. LATS, PFI, etc, or any of the technical jargon associated with this campaign !

Above Photo.....Rainworth Heath.....At the start of Pit Lane on the left hand side. This pool, created on Boggy Land, from excess rainfall clearly shows Mist being released to the atmosphere, would any toxins from the proposed incinerator be "trapped" at ground level by this low lying mist ? Therfore having an adverse effect on localised wildlife ??
Does NCC or Veolia have an answer, is this being considered, Do they really CARE what happens to OUR
PROTECTED WILDLIFE ???
ANSWER.....DEFINITELY NO !
+++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++
WHO WANTS AN INCINERATOR IN RAINWORTH ?
NOT ....Proffessor David Bellamy !
NOT...Rainworth Residents !
NOT...Many of Rainworth`s Parish Councillors ! (if you can believe or trust them)
and maybe not even Nottinghamshire County Council ? seems like they have questions/ reservations !
Newark and Sherwood Council have voted unanimously against the Incinerator
It appears that only VEOLIA, WANTS TO BUILD AN INCINERATOR IN RAINWORTH
and destroy our community, our Countryside, and our Heath!
Keep fighting because slowly but surely we are making an impact, and hopefully Veolia will see sense and withdraw their proposal to destroy our village .
