Tomb Raider Underworld

Tomb Raider Unnderworld: This is the eighth game in the Tomb Raider series and the ninth release, and the third game in the series to be developed by Crystal Dynamics. It will resume the adventure from where Tomb Raider Legend left off, and will be set primarily in Southern Mexico, particularly in Chiapas, where Lara Croft uncovers portals between her current world and the underworld, Xibalba, that are opened during the six days of Wayeb' in the Maya calendar. Lara opens a portal near an ancient ballcourt, used to play ballgames often involving human sacrifice, which Mayans believed were the site of portals to Xibalba. Lara may also visit Australia, Easter Island, Rome and the Vatican, Mesopotamia, and the Golden Triangle, and is set "in places no-one has seen for centuries." It was announced in January 2008 that Tomb Raider: Underworld will be released in the fourth quarter of 2008, as opposed to the third quarter as was previously planned.

Creative Director Eric Lindstrom first revealed details of the story in the official blog: Lara Croft will be searching for Thor's hammer (known in mythology as Mjöllnir), and she first finds evidence of its existence in ruins beneath the Mediterranean Sea. Lindstrom also mentioned that Lara may put the entire world in danger by unlocking "a dormant force which, if disturbed, could destroy everything."

In the first gameplay trailer, released on August 15, 2008, Lara says that she needs Thor's belt (known in mythology as Megingjörð) in order to acquire his hammer, and she "needs the hammer to kill a God".
