The Music

The music was the driving force behind this radio station.Like so many others at the time who specialised in a certain type of music,Radio Floss evolved into an all out Rock station.
By the time the main format was established, programmes would start at 10am with The Ian Davidson Breakfast Show. You needed a strong stomach on a sunday morning for this show,AC/DC & Status Quo were regular features of this early morning show.
At 2pm came The Andy Richards Show which was a mixture of hard and soft Rock, old and new.It would feature bands like The Steve Miller Band, early Santana,Jimi Hendrix,Robin Trower,Focus,Wishbone Ash & Metallica.
This was followed by the stations last programme,Glen Johnson's Loud Show!Which was just that,Metallica,Megadeth,Motorhead,Motley Crue(And any other bands beginning with M!!!!!!!!!!,no just joking!)Scorpions,Black Sabbath...............you get the idea!!
In between Ian Davidson's Breakfast Show and Andy Richard's Show were three hours of programmes that changed regularly and added spice to the station's output.Depending on the presenters, programmes could be Heavy Metal,Proggresive Rock,Blues Rock,NWOBHM,or any number of combinations. But it was all solid Rock.

The Music Mix

The mix of music was roughly,25% Classic Rock,or what was thought of as Classic Rock then.Music from the late Sixties to the mid Seventies.60% was recent or current music from the late Seventies to the present and 15% was brand new music, new releases and demo's.

Classic Rock - Music from the late sixties to the mid seventies included artists such as;The Stones,The Who,Jimi Hendrix,The Doors,Iron Butterfly.Crosby,Stills,Nash & Young & Cream.Led Zeppelin,Black Sabbath,Deep Purple,Status Quo,Genesis,Pink Floyd,Focus,Santana,The Chicago Transit Authority,King Crimson & Frank Zappa.The Steve Miller Band,Supertramp,Robin Trower,Mahogany Rush,Pat Travers,Styx & Rush,to name but a few.

Contemporary & New Music(At the time!) - UFO,Saxon,Iron Maiden,Samson,Praying Mantis,Bon Jovi,Van Halen,ZZ Top,Metallica,Slayer,Venom,The Scorpions,Ozzy Osbourne,Motley Crue,Kiss,Whitesnake,Thin Lizzy,AC/DC,Gillan,Gun's 'n'Roses,Magnum,Coney Hatch,White Lion,Journey,Uriah Heep,Asia,Stevie Ray Vaughan & many more.

The station really tried hard to promote new music, featuring at least three new albums each week and playing demo's.Some of the bands pushed on demo's were;Twelfth Night,Pallas,Marillion,Shader,LA Hooker & Mono Pacific.
What would Radio Floss be playing if it came on the air this weekend?(Now there's an idea!).Well,it's hard to say.Twenty years have passed and a lot of good music has been produced in that time.At a guess I'd say that the old format would still be fifty percent of the output. But music from the last twenty years from artists such as;Kula Shaker,Pearl Jam,Nickelback,3 Doors Down,Creed,Porcupine Tree,Evanessence & Linkin Park would certainly feature too.Radio Floss were never afraid to play music that was sometimes not regarded as "True Rock Music" by some fans, such as The Beastie Boys,Anthrax,Aerosmith with Run DMC etc,and they would certainly not be afraid to play music by The Prodigy,The Stone Roses,Rammstein,The Beloved,The Darkness,Audioweb or The Stereo MC's..If it is quality, they would play it.
